can you put a bit more preferences?
But as first mmorpg I would suggest WoW, it is easy to learn and control and it is fun to play as well. Expect a lot of bad apples in the community though.
Guild Wars won't give the real mmorpg feeling if you ask me, and I have the feeling a lot think the same.
For Lineage 2 I would say go for it if you have a lot of spare time and like grinding. It will be pretty hard if it is your very first mmorpg.
And I suppose all 3 games run well, not on maxed setting though

Try to impress me, please, i dare u
Any mmorpg will be hard to begin with, it is more the style (fantasy,sci-fi etc..) and the mode (PvE,PvP,RvR, all this mixed im various ways) that might influence your choice.
Guild War is too impersonal with almost everything instancied, btw it is a good game.
WoW is a good game too.
L2 is hard, very hard but so many people like it..
Nobody mention Matrix OnLine though it is a very good game, not worse that others that have the fotm.SOE just bought the game and we can expect some positive changes, if you like the movie y'll like the game.
The above posts sum up pretty well the gameplay differences of the three candidates (Guildwars is easy to get into the game but lacks the atmosphere of a true MMO - WoW is likewise easy to have fun but costs 12$ a month and Lineage II is rather slow and heavy but does have a better longevity than the latter two)
What has not been covered is the technical aspect:
Guildwars doesn't need much hardware power considering it's modern look and stunning graphics. Your Graphics Card will struggle a bit with the game but then it will with most new games and as I hinted at before: For the quality of graphics Guildwars provides, it is remarkebly low on hardware requirements.
WoW does also not need much hardware power, even though a full 1 gigabyte of RAM would be extremely beneficial (GW is less RAM intensive). Being a true MMO with sometimes hundreds of people displayed in one area with hundreds of different outfits and appearances, it will stutter and lag sometimes even if your machine would be much better. People live with low framerates in MMOs when entering cities since Everquest and it doesn't look like MMOs will provide the smooth gameplay of games like UT2004 in the near future
Lineage II uses the Unreal Tournament 2003 engine and primarily needs RAM. It won't stress your Graphics Card as much I think but you should have at least 1 gigabyte of RAM for this game, preferrably even more. Since the UT2003 engine isn't too new, the game will run smoothly outside of cities on your machine (the engine is said to be heavy on the CPU and 2.8 GHz is more than enough)
KHAAAANN!!!
sumed it up pretty well, I had been playing with a 64mb card in WOW and GW...
WOW seemed to be better with the 64mb card, and the gameplay is good also
GW I didn't have too many complaints with the graphics but I know that I had them dialed down to a medium quality or so.
If you are unsure that you are going to want to stay with mmo's GW is a good choice due t the no monthly fee. If you are sure then WOW is a better choice.
The communities of both seem a bit on the immature side (before I am flamed... not all or even most of the players but there is a lot).
Witty saying to amuse you goes here.
First MMO? WOW... no question.
Currently Playing: Dungeons and Dragons Online.

Still in: A couple Betas
For a first MMO, I would say try Knight Online, its free and explains the basics. once youve played that for a while you can upgrade to the high lvl MMOs.
Gotta be Eve Online, do the 14 day free trial. If you make it through the 2 weeks, you are ready for just about any MMO.

PvE in general is pretty lame, if you think long and hard about it. You are spending your time beating a severely gimped AI that would lose to a well trained monkey. Best not to think too long and hard why you are wasting time playing games in general actually...
