No, most probably it's on MOs end.

Ofc it must be on MOs end. Cause I downloaded the entire game in 40-45 mins...

I redownloaded it the other day. It was around 10gb and was stated that it would take an hour at roughly 4mb/sec but I let it run and went to bed so I don't know if it actually stayed that way.

I have actually tried it a bit more, it's still jerky but not unplayable, I find woodcutting therapeutic, just need to find someone to sell the 2700 horse flesh I looted and buy some skills.

No problems for me either with downloading, was actually at my max speed.  I re-downloaded the game last month.  However, when I had to download the game a year ago, I had to torrent the game because the patcher never got past 5kb/s.  I know they have made improvements to the patcher, but it is picky it seems.  Maybe some ports needed forwarded idk.

I actually really liked the game too.  But unfortunately there just isn't a place in the game world currently for my playstyle.  I wanted to do more than craft and then be killed by the same people over and over again.  Plus the bugs just started to wear on me.  Hoping the miracle patch called Awakening will open up some more playstyles.

When I played, the game was very buggy but you could still play... with a a good bit of leaks shutting the game down.

I made probably the worst combo I wanted swords and taming.  So, i raised my swords a little bit.  Then I finally saw rabbits I could tame.  And I kept taming for a few days hours on end.  Got to like 92 taming or something so I could tame horses belbus and all of that.  Started farming the good horses (forgot their names).

Eventually, I moved on to taming those buffalo looking things would kill 1 then kill my tamed 1 and keep doing that for their fur or whatever.

Got some money to buy stuff but never needed to as I joined a clan.  This is when the game got pretty fun... my stats were already good for the time in my opinion.

I do not remember what we were doing... but we started climbing the river outside town and we had to boost each other up... we were trying to reach the very highest point... we never quite made it there as we ran out of people.  We needed like 2 or 3 more to get the final boost.

From there our alliance was under attack so we all gathered at his house and battled for a few hours.  In the area the only thing around were a group of bears, so I kept taming bears and sending them in on them.  Then we chased each other back and forth hiding in mountains and jumping them.  After it all cleared we decide to go kill some mobs... very tough mobs further east... like rock humans or something.  We got there and started killing for about an hour when they found us again.  At this point we had a decent bit of loot we could not lose, so we had to win the fight and escape back to town.  We primarily had 1 person who held onto all the valuable stuff so him and 3 others took off and did not stick around while the rest of us fought for probably a good 20 minutes before they all died.

Since, this was just my first day in the clan, I thought it was great having so much pvp action in 1 night.  The next few days we kept grouping up with maybe 5-10 people  and someone would craft armor and weapons as needed before we moved out.  We came across a good bit of pvp but nothing major usually we outnumbered them by 3-5x.

That night there was a contest to kill the arena battlemaster 2v1.  Now, we had 4 people who planned to fight.  2 who were very good and 2 who just wanted to fight. So, they had to bring the best gear possible.  So we all gathered basically to help protect them.  Sure enough, they had protection once you entered the arena.  But before and after not so much.

Well, sure enough the people we were fighting all the night before showed up.  Everybody is arguing and now there fighting over who would go first... sure enough their clan got the first 3 fights... and lost.  Ours got a turn they lost.  Then some random people just got completely destroyed.

Our main 2 got their turn... This fight lasted 10 minutes and it did not look good at all... but they finally took the guy down.  Now, they slowly started booting us from the arena in pairs of 3.  I was booted first with 2 enemies.  Fought... died.

This fighting continued for hours.  We ran to a town where it seemed like nothing but pvp.  We fought there, I did not know who was on our side and who was not.  At this point all I had was a sword because I had died after the arena, so again my main strategy was tame a pet and sick it on em... Finally, the pvp ended for the night and we tried to climb to the top again... failed again... can't remember what we were trying to get, but it had something to do with that bird that flies down every now and then... we watched it fly to the top of the mountain.

Needless to say I really had a great time on the game once I got into a clan.  I ended up quitting shortly after however because I picked up a second job and between school and 2 jobs I had no time.

Always thought about going back, but I never see anything good said about the game.

SV has recently optimised the client and everything is running much more smoothly. Overall many of the bugs are being slowly worked through (though I would not go in expecting it to live up to the quality standards of bigger mmo titles, its a small inde team). I have virtually no lag on full graphics settings now and lag over node lines is now minimal (I do have a pretty nice machine, but its on full graphics, not many mmos will run like that even on my machine).

My reply didn't go where I expected so Ill add this...This game is really fun and offers a very unique experience in the MMO market, its tough as hell and you wont be held by the hand, there is constant danger and you can lose everything, sure that might seem frustrating, but it adds a dimension of caring about the game, along with  paranoia that few other games can match. If a challenge sounds good to you, or you are over the generic theme park linear questing system (you know the games I mean) then give the trial a go, the worst thing you will lose is a bit of time.

Have they optimised it in the last 48 hrs? I thought that was going to happen when the new patch was released?

Nah, it was a week or two ago and it made a significant difference to performance (I've been playing for about 3 months). There will be further tweaks to performance with the patch, because the UI and AI are being replaced and that will improve a lot of the remaining issues (assuming they pull it off, which honestly noone will be certain of until it's patched).
