I just cant stand the current mmorpg's out at the moment. Most of them are just plain sht. Why cant the devs or whoever decides to make a good mmorpg get it right and listen to what the People want?
I have tried so many games that have just completely dissapointed me.
Just to name a few i have played, Earth and beyond, SWG, WoW, ryzom, EvE, eq2, Lineage 2, AO, FFXI, RYL, DAOC and some others.
I just play eve now, But i tend to just sit in the stations now because Its gotten soo repetative. Ive done everything there is to do 10x over. I just cant bare to cancel it because my character is over 2 years old. Its almost like sentimental value.
Most of all I wrote this thread to ask for help even though it sounds like a rant/greif thread.
I ask if theres anyone that knows of any good mmorpg's that I can Play right now that are good.
I am currently waiting for Vanguard SOH, and DNL but I have been let down so many times by new mmorpg's that promised to much and gave so little im about to just give up on mmorpg's for a long time to come.
What i want in a game:
Atleast descent graphics
A somewhat large player base, I cannot please a game that has under 2000 people on a server. It gets too barren
ANd good features- I want a fun game with gimmicks yes that right i want the extra stuff, i want maybe player cities, I love polotics, pvp, and guilds that can start wars with each other.
ALso im "NOt" looking for a free game, I am willing to spend... hell i would spend 50 a freakon month for a descent game at this point.
If anyone has any suggestions, please tell me. ALso the rant in the beginning of post if in NO way meant to start a argument with people that agree or disagree at the current state of mmorpg's. That is my opinion, and everyone should be entitled to their own opinions.

Yeah uh, I know how ya feel man. Although I can't add anything constructive to the thread, I just wanted you to know, you're not alone (except the paying $50/month for a game part). And you've tried a couple more games than I have, but you haven't tried CoH, which was pretty cool. It doesn't have the depth that you're looking for unfortunately, but it was a cool time sink for a while. .. I beta tested MxO, but it didn't interest me, just didn't like the mechanics of the game.
Anyway, I'll be watching your thread.
so...
I feel the same way as you do.
Ive played shadowbane(liked it for the time being)
Dark ages of Camelot(still think thats a good game but the time it takes to play--eck)
WoW(very shallow, dont care fo the pvp/crafting/grind)
Guildwars(pretty fun but gets old quick, since there is no monthly fee however, its fun to pick back up and play once in a while)
SWG(good crafting, quality game imo but--pvp and game in general leaves something to be desired)
Saga of Ryzom--(I couldnt get past the beginning of this game--too boring)
Asherons Call 2(couldnt get past the beginning)
ryl-ack
knight online-double ack
Personally, Im gonna give asherons call (first one) a legitimate chance to impress me starting next week.
I cant wait for DNL, darkfall, irth and vanguard
Even Roma Victor (with its slightly dated graphics) looks good.
I wish something great was out right now----hate waiting.
You could just be burnt out on MMORPGs right now. Maybe taking a break from gaming completely for a while could make you have a bigger desire to play them, and in return make you notice some great things about the existing MMORPGs on the market that you didn't notice?
That's pretty much the point i've come too. I'm just bored with MMORPGs, and it's way too optimistic for me to believe that me or anyone can put hundreds of hours into numerous games and not get burnt out. What we need is something completely new, like the original MMORPGs were that got us all addicted. I don't see anything on the horizion that is all that innovative.
And you name DNL and Vanguard as what you're looking forward to. I'm sorry to say it but you're just going to be dissapointed all over again. Vanguard is simply another refinement of EQ, I don't see why that would be anything to look forward to if you're already bored with that.
DNL, however is something that I find atleast different. But what good is endless stretches of land if there is no content to fill the caps in between? It's all just randomly generated terrain with randomly spawned monsters. That alone compeletely ruins the immersion for me. If i'm going to take the time to explore that much space I want to be rewarded, but simple logic would tell me that entire gaming sessions spent exploring would be completely unrewarding, no thanks.
I'm also looking forward to Hero's Journey because it looks nice and hopefully they'll pull from their Gemstone/Dragon Realms experiences in this one. I think I read they're making the engine so that the content folks can freely create inside the world. I had a lot of fun playing both GS and DR back in the day.
Have played SWG, WoW, CoH, GW, Eve, and MxO (in order of most to least played). I've also tried some of the free things. While MapleStory is mildly entertaining, it's gimmicky to me.
Anyway, I guess that's why a lot of us are here at MMORPG.com. I find myself back here when I'm not playing a game. I may even pick up BF2 because I'm bored enough to play a FPS (I think).
so...
Ill be honest with ya here i too have played most of the games out atm.PvP,PvE,xbox and even PS2.
The whole problem is there is NO game to match the majic of the 1st one that got ya hooked. So now im back on EQ2 and im having a good enough time with it.Never played the original eq so im having fun with the exploration of the world.
For some reason ive found its got everything i need in a mmo.(minus the PvP of course).A great character creation system,a deep crafting system preety good missions and decent loot drops. If they ever start a PvP server id jump on that in a fast heartbeat.
Anyway i got tired of hopping around game to game im stickin with this one for a bit.Ill eventually join up with a guild or something but im kind of watching Vanguard with its recently announced PvP servers.
Want to ENJOY an mmo?
Dont start a guild and dont be a leader or volunteer to be coleader or captain.
Just play the damn game:)
Vanguard is going to be the answer to alot of peoples prayers
yea, I've hopped a fair number of MMO's myself. heck, a lot of them. I agree it is the first one that is magical and gets you hooked on MMO's. After burning out on the first finally, I hopped around manically looking for something else . All I have to live on is empty promises of MMO's to come.
I intended to go somewhere with this whine, but, I can't think of anything. sorry if you're more depressed.

I guess this would be the cry in your beer thread
I brought lots of beer.
And I feel the same way. I love the genre and dislike the games.
Almost envy those guys who have games that they actually like to play (even if I think their game stinks ). I'm still wiating for my game.
i've been all over the genre lately. from one mmo to the next, trying to find the next game that will capture my interest for at least a year. So far nothing. I guess i'll have to live with the fear demo, BF2, and Half Life 2 for a while longer.
oh well.
I'm going to probably quit mmorpgs until something like DnL comes out. Im not having fun with them lately and I dont have the patience anymore to grind levels over and over.
Im with you 100%....
Played everything from Meridian 59 to WoW and the last 2 (WoW, and EQ2) are like watching grass grow except not quite so engaging.
Just sitting here waiting for my RV Beta mail.....

Thats because 90% of the games mentioned are EQ clones. They havent strayed away from the system enough to hold people's attentions who's already been through the treadmill games.
My God Lineage 2. I thought EQ had a grind you should try that if you want to watch grass grow. WoW had a few bright spots, mainly they interface and fast pace pvp. But battlegrounds hurt the game for me. Turned into a Nice title fest, and like most Mmorpg rewarded those who put in the most hours.
Its the system of which these games play. There all rat bashers to level up for you can get to be big and then group with yada yada 6 or so people or higher for a big raid, "Yawn", Rinse, Repeat.
Someone needs to develop a game more like the earlier days of EQ. Skill Gain, instead of leveling. Great Graphics, and a place where the people have to govern themselves. These new games are almost all single player games, need to add the risk back of Reds or Pks, IMHO. I dont know maybe I just cant find a game like the old days of UO
Anyways I am with ya, I get burnt real fast these days, WOW held me for about 6 months, the longest before that was EQ at one year.
Vanguard and DnL should be both awesome games, but I am more inclined to the first one, because is made by experienced developers.
DnL has nice ideas but i am pretty sure that at release, it will have lots of broken features and shit load of bugs (I hope i am wrong).
Vanguard, on the other hand, is developed by the same team of EQ, and although EQ wasn't exactly the most perfect MMO in terms of bugs, I believe that the team now have more experience not to make the same mistakes, therefore I expect a more polished product.
Plus, I believe that Sigil really wants to make another cult game, rather than making a game to make money, therefore I believe that Vanguard will be the next EQ, and I am pretty sure I won't be disappointed.
Diablo 2 just started a new ladder season, and a new patch came out 1.11. Theres no monthly fee and its a good game.
Everything you've listed is available in:
SWG, UO, EVE, ShadowBane
Most of it is in:
DAOC, AO, SoR and soon, EQ2.
Since you've tried many of those titles maybe, instead of ranting and raving about how you hated them, you should analyze what it was about them that you did not enjoy. Then articulate what it is that you're really looking for because your "I WANT" list is entirely too vague.

None of the above are MMORPG's. Sounds like you probably aren't really an MMORPG fan. Could be you're looking at the wrong Genre.... you would probably prefer an MMORFPS... have you tried PlanetSide (granted it's not the greatest implementation out but it'll give you an idea of where that genre is likely to head).

Im sorry that I wasnt that specific. Il restate what I am looking for clearer this time.
I want descent graphics, doesnt have to be the best , but I dont want giant shapes on the screen.
I want to be able to Level up by even grinding if I must because I want the reward of being able to level up the harder I work. something like Eve where I train skills while offline isnt what im into at all.
Im sure I do NOT like mmofps games. I like leveling mmorpg's
I need a high population server to play on
I also want certain features for example castle sieges, ability to own towns and charge people taxes, I like heavy polotics for example: you annoyed us now our guild is going to go to war with your guild.
My first mmorpg was earth and beyong I played up until it died. I loved the game because of the ability of the characters to have awesome skills at end game. Yes I want to be a god end game, I dont want to be maxed level with everyone else and all be exactly the same.
I know this sounds like Lineage 2 would be my best choice, BUT i played lineage 2 3 times and canceled 3 times because I couldnt stand the Griefing and the Bots.
Im currently thinking about doing something drastic like playing a international weird game like flyff or R.O.S.E. online just for something new.
Last thing I see by a lot of peoples replies I am not the only one in this Boat, I thank you for the support
DAOC would probably be your best bet based on what you're saying. But you said you tried it and didn't like it? Again, without knowing what it was you DIDNT like about the games you didn't like it's hard to nail down a suggestion. You say you want castle sieges and PVP but yet you loved Earth & Beyond which had absolutely no PVP other than an arena and had no guild wars or politics or even player 'cities' of any form. Hell most guilds didn't last long either because the game was so soloable.
It's like the game you liked MOST had nothing to do with your list of desires.
You say you want a high population server but E&B was about as empty as games come. You say you want PVP but E&B had none. You say you want player cities. E&B had none.... You say you want Sieges (no pvp so no sieges in E&B either). The only thing that you say you want, which E&B did have was a level grind.
Based on what you enjoyed vs. what you claim you WANT I think you need to take a long look at what you liked about E&B and think about CoH.... because it sure sounds like THAT is what you would really enjoy. Because all the things you listed that you want are in several of the games you already tried and didn't like.
I'm not picking on you I would really like to try to help. But your list of desires just flat out doesn't match up with the only game you claim to have enjoyed... AT ALL

You should check out the feature list for The Chronicle. I don't usually troll these boards to hype my own game, but I'm willing to offer it as a suggestion to people who ask for advice. If youre so upset with how boring, redundant, and pointless current MMORPGs are, its worth taking a look
Here it is.

I actualy already have The Chronicle Preordered, But I really want something I can" Play Now."
I am very much looing foward to the Beta though.
ALso about EnB having absolutely nothing to do with what I want. You are 100 percent right. I just miss ENB very badly because it was my first mmorpg and I was in a awesome guild and I still am having withdrawal issues since EA killed the game.
I shouldnt even of mentioned it, and DAOC was ok but it got boring very fast and not enough immersion and it just wasnt for me.
Playerbases in MMORPGs are rising swiftly. It seems the devs *are* listening to what the People want. Perhaps you are confusing what "the People" want with what *you* want.
Chris Mattern
I'm not sure I could play Vanguard. Too many phallic shaped rocks. I think I would become too distracted.
wow-- was just reading up on the chronicle--games looks very good.
When is it scheduled to come out?

I think your confusing "giving players what they what", and what devs "think they want," and you fail to account for what devs promise to players but fail to deliver.
WoW is a perfect example. 3.5 million players, must be getting what they wanted, right?
Wrong.
Casual gamers with little time wanted a solo style game. They got it. Until level 60 that is, then it becomes hardcore, grind. go to the forums, you see their complaints, flamed by harcore players, ignored by blizzard.
PvPers wanted PvP. But battle grounds and the honor system is NOT what many players wanted. Players wanted to raid enemy cities and towns, hurt their opponent, make an impact on the world. The devs nerfed that style of game play and made PvP a sterilised shadow of it's promise. Check the forums, many players have spoken out on this, Blizz ignores them.
So why is wow doing so well. A great many of it's player base are NEW to mmorpgs, come from warcraft, diablo, battle net, or are Blizz fans. when the novelty wears off the population will begin to decline.
EQ2 did not do as well as expected, it promised more than it delivered.
So did Horizons, that game is life support.
Wish, promised much, never made out of the blocks into the race.
Sure, so far, many people have been happy with the current wave of mmorpgs, but as we get older, more jaded; as we see the same mistakes repeated in each new game, we start to look for more.
