Its fine when used as a form of expression(I encourage it). As an insult, a bit pathetic.

I agree with you. Actually I rarely cuss, but on the net, I will (or might) type the cuss word I'm thinking off, but not say it. Christian family I'm in... but... <_<
The only cuss would I say is f*ck. I find as away to express anger love hatred and a hobo's cart full of other emotions. Plus it is the only word refferd to as the F word which just shrouds it in mystery and aww.So I have to say cussing is ok as long as you dont start replacing a cuss word for every other word.Example: Colin Farrell in phone booth.
i think cussing is fine, like he said, not really in a diss, but i cuss all of the time.
BTW: I bet you dont know where the word Fuck came from and how it originated (i do). Whoever finds out first and posts it wins a harty e-Handshake from me, sackynut.

On topic, I think swearing is a good way (for me at least) to vent anger or frustration. I try not to do it too much on forums and such (although I slip now and then), but I swear WAY too much in real life. It's like a bad habit; hard to stop
Sackynut the obscenity fuck is a very old word and has been considered shocking from the first, though it is seen in print much more often now than in the past. Its first known occurrence, in code because of its unacceptability, is in a poem composed in a mixture of Latin and English sometime before 1500. The poem, which satirizes the Carmelite friars of Cambridge, England, takes its title, Flen flyys, from the first words of its opening line, Flen, flyys, and freris, that is, fleas, flies, and friars. The line that contains fuck reads Non sunt in coeli, quia gxddbov xxkxzt pg ifmk. The Latin words Non sunt in coeli, quia, mean they [the friars] are not in heaven, since. The code gxddbov xxkxzt pg ifmk is easily broken by simply substituting the preceding letter in the alphabet, keeping in mind differences in the alphabet and in spelling between then and now: i was then used for both i and j; v was used for both u and v; and vv was used for w. This yields fvccant [a fake Latin form] vvivys of heli. The whole thus reads in translation: They are not in heaven because they fuck wives of Ely.
And cursing is not bad, provided you use it in it's intended context, cursing makes most comedians funnier, find a funny joke with lots of curse words in it, substitute those words with clean words and it loses almost all of it's hilarity. However, just throwing around a curse word to do it just makes you look stupid and can therefore be counted as wrong. Just my thoughts though.
I don't really think that it's wrong but it does show immaturity if you start swearing in a public place. It looks even worse when you see 30+ year olds cussing all the time in front of kids, frigin hillbillys.
I think swearing is wrong if you have a swear word in every single sentence, but Id find it a bit ok if used sparsly, usually to express great emotion. I swear only on the internet as I find it hard to hear my own voice say it (Im Christian too, but that plays only a small part in it).
I think it's the objective of your past self to make you cringe.

Professor Hubert Farnsworth - That question is less stupid but, you asked it in a profoundly stupid way.
Well, I really think cussing is wrong. I really hate it when little pre-adolescents start cussing to sound cool. I am a Christian and I believe in the Bible and one of the ten commandments says "Thou shalt not take thy Lords name in vain" so really I think it is worse to use God's name than to use a cuss word (although the Bible also says somewhere "swear not at all...")
Anyways, that is what my religion says. What really confuses me is that I go to a Christian School and almost all my class mates cuss and do not think anything about it. I try not to cuss but I am around it so much that it's like installed into my brain and just comes out.
while I dont cuss a whole lot and I really dont care if others cuss, I have noticed the following trend within me:
The more I hear anyone one person cuss, the more I view them as being unintelligent. Maybe its just me, but whenever I hear people cuss A LOT they just sound really stupid...like they dont know how to express themselves in any way other than throwing out a cussword.
People who have to create conspiracy and hate threads to further a cause lacks in intellectual comprehension of diversity.
Cussing requires no imagination, just the ability to fill empty spaces with cuss words.
"I used to think the worst thing in life was to be all alone. It's not. The worst thing in life is to end up with people who make you feel all alone." Robin Williams
I dont understand why cussing is wrong. Its just a word...i know that the word means something but still. what really makes me mad are the parents that punish their child for swearing. my friend swore when we were little, and his mom grounded him from everything for a week....

I know what you mean becuase while doing community service that I needed to graduate the kids where I was doing it at 7 year olds said f*ck or sh*t in every sentence.
I think cursing is fine when using it around people who you are close to, such as friends, who accept cursing in conversations. Like, "O man, she's fuckin' hot." or "Shit, I forgot my wallet." But you shouldn't curse around random people or stranger. For example, you shouldn't go to the supermarket and say stuff like, "Where the fuck do I get sugar?" loud enough for other to hear it.
I also think it's a golden rule to NEVER, EVER, curse infront of kids. Even 15 year olds. Sure, we know that practically every kid after 13 or 14 says fuck or shit everyday. But even still, if you are older than them, you should try to act proper when speaking. And by proper I don't mean grammer, I mean decent language.
I guess the only time you can curse is when you are in EXTREME physical pain. You can say fuck infront of kids if you get shot or something cause anyone can easily explain to them that when in such pain, people say things but it's not their fault.
BTW, I voted yes it's ok since at certain time it is fine. It's the common language. You have to fit in. And yes it is true. Cursing DOES make jokes and comedians funnier. (Sorry, I forgot who posted this fact earlier in this thread but i'm giving you credit for it)
Sorry, deleted post, was religious of nature and seemed to question the current interpretations of scripture, didn't wanna bring that into the discussion so deleted it.
Like most things in life it has its place and when used appropriately and in moderation it is an extremely effective form of communication. When over used or used innapropriately it both causes discomfort and loses its impact.
For example in my work place we are a "Community Organisation" and I spend 90% of my time dealing face to face with the public in training situations. If I swore a lot some of the people in my classes would no doubt be offended and complain to my bosses. As an ex Army person I initially found this tough to get used to as in the Army we f#%#en swore all the f#$%en time $%@damnit
So for people at my work who only ever hear me behaving profesionally it certainly leaves no doubt in their mind as to my seriousness when I add an expletive
In another example I was standing in a line at a local "club" with a very good friend, waiting to order a meal and some drinks. He had already had quite a few and was swearing pretty profusely (nother ex Army) as he usually does. There were two old ladies behind us who were clearly getting offended by his language and I even said to him... MAN tone it down... He replaied that he didnt even realise he was doing it and apologised to them...

It is true how many of you are saying it is culture now a days...I mean just look at all those movies that Hollywood brings out. I can understand a War movie having alot of cussing as it is realistic but a kids movie shouldnt have any in it. Movies influence people so much. I think that the main reason people cuss is because its way overused on TV and in movies.
I'm not a Christian, I'm not a Muslim, I will curse if I please. But if curse all the time, just as pointless insults, then you seem pretty stupid in my eyes.
