Using siege cannons on world bosses; yes you can.

Looks pretty neat. Not sure if it is actually encouraged or intended in this specific encounter but the freedom you have to do so is very nice.
Does anyone know if it is a viable tactic (and allowed / possible) to summon a siege engine anywhere in the open world? I.e. also to use them in world pvp and for killing normal mobs, or from cliffs and islands to shoot at boats, etc. ?
Or are they somehow restricted to certain areas or scenarios?
