what GW games to make use of the HoM stuff in GW2?

SendenSenden Member UncommonPosts: 602

Have been trying to follow GW2 for a bit now with all the hype surrounding it and all. One feature that interests me is the hall of monuments stuff that copies over onto your guild wars 2 characters. I assume most of it will be vanity items however I see this as a good reason to explore the other games allowing me to hopefully benefit come GW2 release.

My question though is what games make use of the hall of monument stuff? There is quite a few GW games out now so want to make sure I get the right ones. If they all benefit from the HoM stuff, what would be the best game to start with?

I'm pretty sure they all make use of it. there all standalone games but are connected to eachother, the only one you HAVE to have is eye of the north for the HOM but you can get points from all the campaigns i believe

I'm not sure what are you asking about, so I'll try to explain the system.

In order to get access to HoM you need Eye of the North and any of standalone games - Prophecies, Factions or Nightfall

Then, by playing the game, you get titles (some are pretty easy to get), rare weapons, rare armors and some other things you can use at your HoM (it's a physical location in EotN), thus getting points, which unlock certain rewards in GW2.

Here's the link to HoM: http://hom.guildwars2.com/

You get 3 points for free ;)

All rewards are purely cosmetic - weapon skins, pets, titles.

There's nothing that rewards you in GW1 except titles, which are pure vanity, obviously.

If you NEVER played GW1, got no friends playing it willing to help you, you WILL NOT get past 10-15/50 or so. Some of the  titles are very grindy.

    Hope this helps

If you start playing GW for the first time, I suggest getting all 3 campains and EotN expansion and start playing Nightfall for the heroes. Most fun and also probably fastest way to start collecting points is finishing each campaign and collect heroes. Lvl some pets, get some elite armoursets and hero armour for your heroes so you can add those to HoM too.

Starting from scratch itll take some time to get many points in HoM.

There are no real advantages in GW2 from getting points in HoM. So you dont have to afraid that you miss anything important if you dont complete it. It has mainly a nostalgic purpose and probably has more meaning to ppl who played GW for a long time.

As said if you truly want to get points for hom then get all games. Yes start in Nightfall, but I won't say it is the most fun, because for me it was the most boring and I had the hardest time getting all my characters through. Prophecies was handsdown the best for me.

It is best to set a goal at the start. how many points do you want to obtain and such.

An easy way to get faster progress in titles and stuff is to keep an eye out on the Zaishan daily quests. They reward coins which will help you get money after a while, which you can use to buy things you need for hom.

You can read up on hom points and how to obtain them the best way at http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Main_Page

If you want to know which specific rewards you will get on your GW2 account, you can check the rewards section here to see if you are interested in any of them at all:

If you decide to go for it, you can easily track your progress here once you've created a character in GW1:

    Official Hall of Monuments FAQ:

There are several guides how to get to 30 points (beyond 30 points, the awards are only titles).

    One was already posted here:

Still, I think filling out your HoM makes sense only if you'll enjoy playing GW1.

Check out the game, maybe you'll like it, even if you must be aware that it's a very different game from GW2. :)

You get a few points and thus a few rewards already for linking your campaigns (accounts) and for finishing the storylines.

You need Eye of the North, which is an expansion, to access your Hall of Monuments, and at least one standalone campaign  (Prophecies, Factions, and Nightfall).

Old players usually recommend starting with Nightfall now, because you can gain heroes (special NPC henchmen) right away, which makes playing easier.

But if you don't like the gameplay, the bonuses are nothing you should be losing your sleep over.

Hi, I started collecting points about 6 months ago and am up to 17 so far which has required no grinding to date apart from a few dungeons that I found fun. Played through it all solo with Herod with nO probes at all.

Now playing GW2, AOW 3, ESO, LOTR, Elite D

My tips are complete all campaigns including eotn that will give you almost all of the points. Don't forget to grab your free pvp points and buy z coins, that gives you a free 50k that will get you well on the to an elite armour set. Only other to is salvage everything and sell it all to the traders including runes.

Argh damn phone typing. Last point, it is well worth going through all the mission in all campaigns to immerse you in the gw world - will make gw2 a lot more immersive.

All the items are vanity and with only santimental value. But the game GW is very good and you should play it for what it is and on top of that for the lore if you like such things. Its 110% worthy.

Not necessarily.. even a complete guild wars noob can get up to 20 points without any grind.. 30 only requires money.. grind only starts around 35+

quick summary to 20+ points (Wiki is your best friend, just look up any items you are not sure of)

complete 3 stand alone campaigns with 2 bonus = 8 points (very easy to do just start with nightfall to get good heroes and make sure you always have a MM hero with 16 death magic and you're golden)

pick up every item that drops and you should have around 50-60k from completing all campaigns..

Get a ranger secondary and have an evolved pet reach 20 and tame black moa in factions = 2 points

Get Mox (free hero) = 1 point

Get 2 more heroes.. if you struggle with elite missions just buy armor for 5k ea = 2 more points

Now get all 27 trade contracts in nightfall and buy 1 more = 32k from 4 sapphires

Get all treasures in nightfall = 20k + all the gold unidentified items sold for 700ea = 10k

Get free 50 tournaments points in great temple of balthaazar = 10 zaishen keys = 55k

Now you have around 200k.. just buy 19 white minis and 1 gold mini, destro wep, and prestige armor = 7 points

Grand Total = 20 points.. the rest just requires money money and money..

The only easy thing left is to be good at elite missions and get all 8 points in fellowship which would give you 3 more points

this takes around 30 to 50 days depending on how much you play and how much you struggle with missions :)

This might be a wall of text and confusing to new players.. but don't worry.. just start playing and you will learn these things pretty fast.
