I think broken armor should look broken instead of gone.
If it was possible to do this, i would prefer it this way. It looks kind of silly having it taken off.
As was mentioned in some of these posts, i think it would work better if each race would get a set of "rags" that shows up as ripped clothing. For example, each Norn Male would have their shirts and pants ripped. This way you wouldn't have to make every piece of armor broken.
Someone should email the devs some of these great ideas in this topic. lol.

Depends on the developer. I know a lot of artist friends of mine who seem to overly ENJOY destroying their canvas, prints, molds, and what have you after the initial lith or esp file is created.
I think it'd be more of a matter of... Everyone having 2 or 3 different armor art skins... OR a series of bad ass non-liner quest dungeons as far as space and 100101010100101010101000101s go.
Tho' graphics > content any more so why not invest in something dynamic?
I used to play MMOs like you, but then I took an arrow to the knee.
Originally posted by rojo6934 Originally posted by Leodious It only happens when you fail, so it should be a punishment. I hope it costs enough to actually be a deterrent. I also think it should disappear. Making broken versions of all the armor doubles the work for artist for armor. That is ridiculous and wasteful, and should never be done. It would look cool, but it isn't worth the time. You could be working on totally new armor or clothing or anything else in that time. It wouldn't take as long as brand new armor, but it is still unacceptably wasteful.
its not worth the time because the game release is near so it makes more sense to focus on other things that may be done already. But putting that specific feature aside, if devs get used to make games with your "leave X thing out cos its not worth the time" way of thinking they (or anyone else) will make crap games. Leaving features out of a game "just because" is not the best idea unless it really doesnt fit anywhere in the game (story, dynamic content, combat, etc) edit: back to the broken armor feature, if GW2 had perhaps another year before release then it would be enough time to implement such feature.
I am not saying leave it out just because it isn't worth the effort. I am saying they should leave it out because the other things artist could do with that time is worth more. More other clothing models is worth much more, if for no other reason than they will be seen more. Ideally, people will not run around with broken armor much, so those extra models won't get much view time. Not to mention, to get broken armor you have to die several times before this will even be an issue. Another reason they aren't worth it.
Beyond that, I personally feel like it is just a bad idea in general. I think losing your armor entirely is a better visual cue than broken armor. If people aren't paying a ton of attention won't necessarily see the broken armor and therefore play with it and be at a disadvantage.

You can't wear broken armor - if you could, it wouldn't be broken.
Broken means the intended function of something no longer applies or operates. The function of armor is to provide protection... if your broken armor is still wearable then it is still providing some of its function, and therefore isn't broken, it's damaged.
Realistically speaking, it would be very hard to "break" armor. The only way in which armor could be classed as broken is if it is damaged in such a way that it cannot stay attached to it's wearer - due to severed straps for example.
Make damaged armor look damaged by all means, but broken armor is not wearable, and should be shown as such.

Good point.
Armor can however also break in a way that it still look OK but makes it impossible for you to move well in it. A leg piece you can´t walk in is not just damaged, it is broken.
Weapons might still work while they are broken, a sword that lost it´s tip is broken but you can still kill someone with it, just not as effective as if it was whole.

This
I suspected they opted out of this to reduce the amount of necessary assets they'd have to create because it would mean that every armor model would also need a broken variant.
Civilized men are more discourteous than savages because they know they can be impolite without having their skulls split, as a general thing.
And it will surely bring out a few laughs during dungeons and pvp! I can imagine players getting attacked and their trousers fall off in mid combat
absolutely this. and this is the probable real reason anet did it. they seem to have a quiet oddball sense of humour and i'm all for it.
that aside, could you imagine the painful time it would take to make "broken armour" graphics? that'd be annoying and unnecessary and they might as well do away with the whole concept of a visual difference when your armour is broken.
for me, it's not just about comedy or seeing nudity. it's about knowing your armour is broken. i dunno about gw2, but sometimes you're running around and not paying attention to some biddy flashing light somewhere you never see only to find you've been running around with a dead chestplate for a level and a half.
at least this way i'd know my pants were broken and i need to get them fixed.
having said all that: if your belt breaks do your pants fall down too?
Just because an armor lose its function does not mean it dissapears so I say Nay. No naked broken armor. But it would make alot of sense if there was visible that an armor is broken.

This has been coming up quite a bit. Okay so we know that currently when all your piece of armour become damaged (by being defeated), that subsequent defeats will result in them breaking. And when armour breaks it loses its appearance. Some may find this little feature amusing, whilst others may find it is a detriment to their immersion, or you simply just don't care eitherway. So voice your opinion.
Me personally, I love the system, because it makes it blatantly obvious who sucks and hasn't been fixing their gear and those that care so much about their IMMERSION, will have an incentive for not dying a lot.
I don't really care either way but "Naked Broken Armour" is a bit misleading as I can't imagine you won't be wearing anything under your armour! ;-)
Too bad GW2 won't have shirts and underwear .. customisation ftw!

Lets be honest here, a lot of people who said yes just want an excuse to see computer generated naked chicks, and so do i.

Agreed.
Simply having a clean graphic and a broken graphic would be good for me.
Ya, make broken naked! Or look broken... maybe it will encourage people to do the impossible... suck slighty less at the game!
Enter a whole new realm of challenge and adventure.
I'm going to lose every fight on my female guardian just because of this feature.
A 'yay' from me ^^

Well it looks like after about 200 votes, the majority are in favour of players winding up naked, if they really suck at the game.
