Well my friend needs a good gaming/standard uses computer. His price budget is 800 dollars. He needs like 80-160gb hard drive space, a good fast processor, good video card, decent mobo, 400+ power supply, etc. He uses photo shop alot, and edits videos and any media files. So he needs alot of hard drive space that lasts a while.
I would think custom is the best way to go. But for that price range, it may differ. Any help would be appreciated.

build it yourself and put the bulk of your $$ into the processor, RAM and Vid card in that order. 80gb is plenty to get started, but the key is shop around a LOT before you buy... then act fast.. nothing sux more than not bothering to check that one last place only to find out you could have saved $20-$50 and on a budget of $800, $20-$50 matters!
Oh and for what its worth.... go for a CRT monitor for gaming... LCD is under tech and over price imho..

If he's not playing games, or only playing older games then you can probabally skimp a little bit on the video card. I would say that the Processor is most important but don't skimp on the RAM. RAM is too cheap of a thing to not get enough of, or a good brand. I'm not going to name specific parts or specific companies you should buy from, someone else can do that, but may I ask, is he building it himself or does it want to get it from a manufacturer?

Cannibalistic cannibals eat cannibals.
So why are there cannibals?
From my experiences, computers for less than $1,000 are usually cheaper to buy from a company-direct dealer, since it comes with many extras, like a monitor, operating system, etc. But you HAVE to make sure that you don't get screwed. The places they try to cheap you out are the video card, power supply, and the motherboard. They never give you system specifications for those, so see if you can research those if you/he ever plan on getting one.
