So I used to have a level 50 char then gave it to a friend when I got bored of the game.
Reasons I left:
They changed the game in the areas that kept me playing. They made dungeons super easy (for random grouping to work, this was necessary). This killed it for me, since I worked so hard to get the items I needed and learn the game mechanics well enough that we could get through some of the harder dungeons. Then it became so easy....
Artifacts - I worked really hard to acquire all the artifacts. Then once again, they made it super easy for anyone to acquire all of them.
Lack of Content until you hit 50. When I got bored at 50 I recreated characters, and it's really quite astonishing how little content there is before 50. You often end up with 2-3 armor sets, 2-3 weapons that are viable each 10 levels. This means you basically just farm the same content over and over.
I was suprised when I came back on a trial account that this hadn't changed much. Still same items you get. No new content really for the lower levels. Sigh. Gets so boring!
The game still seems way too easy, and now it's full of bots/spammers. I don't really feel this game has much life left in it.

I agree its why I left after 2 months. See nthe writings o nthe wall and those writings wernt pretty. Lack of content for anyone unless you were a hyper-organized raider, me first mentality that started in EQ then carried over to WoW is what kills and destroys communities.
Everything you need to know about Elder Scrolls Online

Best MMO of all time: Asheron's Call - The first company to recreate AC will be the next greatest MMO.
I never found any of the content challenging (why I left after 2 months). If they have made it any easier, well thats just sad.
Its bad enough you can play the whole game using one or two supermacros.
Rift went out of its way to have something for everyone. There are other classes and combinations that have rediculous rotations and very convoluted game play if you prefer that. It is certainly possible to leech off of other players for dungeons and rifts, I'd expect someone with a parser would stop you from going raiding with them if you only know your one button though.
In the end its a community game and you're there to have fun. If you're friends don't mind you putting yourself on follow and chatting on vent, given enough time the content can still be cleared.
All T1 dungeons are T2's now, they've introduced Master level dungeons which are much more aggressive, and they've got some hardcore raids that have taken months for people to put down. On the flip side you've got quests, rifts, instant adventure, and casual dungeonpvp play if you don't enjoy hardcore stuff. Something for everyone, you can't blame them for an easy game if you've not participated in the hard parts though.
They built their game for level 50 content with a super-fast level pace to 50. Double XP pots, +% weekends and events. Hell, they give you XP for being in a WF win or lose, for exploring new locations for...well everything. Hell, right now you can jump up and down to get experience. You can rebuild your spec for near nothing and have 6 different ones at the click of a button. Pretty plain that the goal there is not to make a ton of low level alts. IJS.
If you're bored at 50 then its because you're tired of running dungeons, raiding, pvp, instant adventure, chronicles, raiding, collecting, achievements etc...you're probably more bored with the genre than with the game in specific.
Bots...report them and they go away, spammers take literally one button to deal with...they are in every game. Really..there are incredibly FEW of them when you get to it. If I see a bot in a week its because I'm looking for one. I've not seen a channel spammer in a very long time now. Though I've got two emails in the past two weeks and flagged them for spam. Not really overrun...
I raided the launch raid content and toped the parse with my 1 button single target and 1 button aoe button thanks. I also won a lot in PvP with it... because the bottom line is that 99% of the time, its a simple case of x skill when its up -> y skill when its up - > z skill when its up based on damage priority. Hell, you could even put trigger skills in there so they get cast whenever they are up. So you just shove them into a damage priority macro and spam it.
Maybe they have radically changed the classes since I played at launch, but I had mage, warrior and scout to max level and none had any builds that needed more than the same few macros.
Could you give an example of these rediculous rotations? Because I looked at the trees again and not much has seemed to have changed.
Good DPS and just DPS are different things. Pressing your champ 1 button builder, 2nd button finisher, 3rd button AOE is OK dps. Things get a bit more intense if you want to be competitive. Same case with the other classes, you can spam one spell or simple macro and feel you contributed, but you could do much better and people won't have to carry you.
Mage is the simplest way to show the difference between someone who's just pressing buttons and someone who KNOWS the spec.
I present the infamous StormCaller single target rotation (which has been simplified some since 1.2)
Opening Rotation
Searing vitality while moving into position
Pillaging stone *5 (If fight will be > 2-3 minutes so bosses in raids)
Raging storm
Ice shear
Forked lightning (thunderbolt)
Lightning strike (start at lightning strike part of rotation at top)
Optimal rotation (If anyone wants to suggest otherwise feel free to do so):
Raging Storm
Lightning strike
Lightning Field * 3
Ice Shear
Forked Lightning (thunderbolt if you will aoe adds you don’t want to)
Lightning Strike
Lightning Field
Building Storm (off GCD ability)
Lightning Field *2 [If you have 60% water crit in raids cast building storm after second lightning field]
Static Flux (always have enough for use here. Can use elsewhere if you have spare/verse of joy)
Arctic Blast
Ice Shear
Raging Storm (start of repeat)
A common spec for mage grinding is Necroloc. Its rotation is much simpler but for top DPS needs to be maintained during the last second of each DoTDebuff. Work in Soul Purge as you get spare charge but don't sacrifice Defile.
Necroloc
Single Target Rotation - Refresh DoT's as they fall off.
Life Leech - 12 second
Essence Link - 60 second duration
Dark Touch - 16 second
Necrosis - 12 second
Defile - 16 second
Searing Vitality - 10 second
Looming Demise - 60 second duration
Grave Rot - 10 second
Void Bolt [Spam] - Use this on each opportunity proc.
When you research these spells you'll notice they are all instants (except Void Bolt) and have no cooldowns (except Grave Rot) by definition not macro friendly.
I'm personally really interested in the macro you used for Bard on your rogue. I think everyone would like to have it to handle motifs with one button, tie in the coda's if you could. I understand if you didn't play the spec.
Cleric Wardens... I'll take an optimal heal macro please.
Single Target Rotation - Extreme Damage - AOE Damage
Soothing Stream, Healing Flood, Healing Showers, Orbs of the StreamOrbs of the Tide, *Tidal Surge, Deluge, Healing Cataract , Healing Breath
Soothing Stream, Healing Flood, Downpour
Return to Moderate Damage or Heavy Damage rotation
*Choice of whether to use Tidal Surge for extra tank heals or extra AOE heals, Use it for Healing Cataract if you decide AOE.
AOE Rotation - (known as goodbye mana I'll miss you!)
Healing Flood, Healing Showers, Ripple, Healing Spray, Soothing Stream, Soothing Stream, Soothing Stream, Orbs of the Tide, *Tidal Surge*, Healing Cataract, Healing Flood, Downpour, Soothing Stream on all targets before the Hot wears off, Healing Cataract
Anyways, point is made.
I suspect they made a smart business decision to release ahead of the game for next gen mmorpgs. They also decided to release a polished (finished) game, which more than likely is why such little content was made available, and also why their patches were so aggressive. I'm sure Trion hasnt shown all their cards yet, and like any business is simply maneuvering to make money amidst a lot of competition. To say the game was built for end game is obvious. All of these games are built with "Skinner's Box" in mind, keeping players chasing rewards until it eventually becomes habitual. Just so happened RIft's content was low and everyone hit end game rather quickly. With a full year's lead on SWTOR, Trion maybe decided to release raid content versus real content, i.e. racial starting zones, sandbox elements, ect. And in my opinion it simply turned into a game for level 50s because that's what level the bulk of players were at.
Also you seem to be forcing your own definition of mmorpg with your statement concerning dungeons, raiding, pvp, ect. None of those features are that much seperate from one another and goes to show just how uncreative the "genre" has become. MMORPG should stand for something bigger than what has become so typical. But until the majority step outside 'the box" and evolve in how they are entertained, we will most likely all continue to get bored. I for one will not be resubbing to Rift. I enjoyed my time well spent, but am only a few steps away from droolling on my keypad and mindlessly chasing cheese.
Unfair! FOUL! It's not my definition of the genre but the commonly accepted one. Either Rift is a clone of WoW or EQ or whichever title and fits the genre or its something other. Popular agreement is it is in the same genre as everyone is certain its a clone of WAR or etc. Not much deviation to be had anywhere in those games outside of the broad categories of "dungeons, raiding, pvp, ect."
Completely fair to be bored of it, or even hate it! But its the same stuff in all of them so...
Hehe, fair enough Hopefully we are able to experience new definitions of MMORPG in the future, because not all of us are getting dumber. I for one remain open to evolution!
