Should Isabelle Parsley be fired from mmorpg.com due to her collum?

I am sorry you are whats bad with mmorpgs today, you are the reason this soloist plague exist. MMORPGS are about grouping, and grouping 70-90% of the time. The soloing agenda has been done to death and guess what? Its failed, its failed on many many levels, you cant have a soloist type of mmorpg, you do that you will end up a watered down boring snore fest, just like mmorpgs are today that cater for the soloing crowd.

Us people that like grouping do not hate soloist, we hate the fact that mmorpgs are now catering to a soloist gameplay mindset and putting grouping and hard game play as a backburner. You want hard game play? Okay well put you in an instanced section cut off from the world where we will require you to group and make the game a challenge.

A mmorpg loses all immersion when I a lone guy can run up to 3-4 mobs my level and kill them all standing still pressing two buttons and just staring at the screen. How is this fun? Whats fun is joining a group of other adventurers around the world questing and exploring large castles etc. Like in everquest, I loved doing kurns with a group of adventurers going deeper and deeper and one false move getting our asses handed to us.  I hate the fact that I have to run around by myself because its hard to find a group because the exp soloing is so much easier, so much faster and better.

Now mmorpgs are adding in mercenaries and followers to follow you around instead of promoting social interaction, see this is the soloist mindset gameplay. Before if you wanted a companion and wanted to solo you played a class that could summon something to join you rather having the gameplay revolve around you.

Her collum was the reason why no good mmorpgs exist today. Todays solo based gameplay mmorpgs burn out too fast, have a been here done that feeling and end up dying and losing steam 3+ months.

There was this game that promoted group play called Rift, but you called it WoW and then went back to WoW. Get over it and move on.

Meh, I was more amused that I recognized the commenter's of her article than anything else...

(I just assumed people came here to troll the forums, not actually read mindless propaganda the "reporters" of the website post)

I don't know if she should be fired, but if there is another branch of the company that focuses on single player games, maybe she could be transferred there. It is very obvious that she doesn't understand the appeal of the "massively" part of an MMO. In fact, she actively dislikes and seeks for the undermining of the genre to continue.

Actually, right on queue, you provided an example of the crazy nut job "group or die" crazies that her article was about.  You actually unknowingly completely validated her article.  Pretty funny actually...

Asking for someone to be fired over an opinion piece many people agree with?  Grow up man.

Its opinions like this that are destroying MMORPGS!

You presume solo players want easy gameplay? wrong on every level. That is why most of us play solo.

I was in a raiding guild in EQ for 7 years. I left because i was becoming so powerful without having ever done anything diificult. Then i found that if i head to the areas where groups were fighting and soloed that same content i actually found it challenging. It was much more rewarding having to use every skill i had to combat a foe rather than being another number in a raid.

I have played many MMO's and find all of them so easy that they dont hold my interest for longer than 3 months! why is this? simple, because i am a solo player and have gooten used to doing it the hard way. When i group in recent games it gets too much of a yawn.

Now if they scaled mobs up to make them a challenge for groups then maybe it would still hold a challenge for me.

Am i against grouping? no not at all, i love grouping and i also love soloing and any game that cant make both sets a challenge just does not hold my attention for too long.

Why can't a solo player find an alternative way to get his epic weapon that holds just as much challenge as a group. Hell make it twice as hard for the solo player and i would still be happy.

The problem is no life neck beards do not want to accept they are in the minority now when it comes to the mmorpg. People who have jobs and kids are the result of people playing since they were 16 and turning into adults.

btw wtf is up with people scared solo player MMORPG's are taking over. If that were true TOR's population would not have been cut in half since December. That game is beyond solo player orientated and completely designed to separate you from the people standing next to you.

  • ZaltarkZaltark Member UncommonPosts: 437

Play Eve online. You cant go anything without grouping.

"The soloing agenda?"  "The soloist plague?"

You underline why I avoid groups.  I'll always prefer my own company to that of megalomaniacal blowhards like yourself.  Too bad there are just so damned many of you.

You give group gaming a bad name.

Sweet essay. I'm sorry that nobody wants to walk uphill both ways barefoot in snow anymore when it comes to mmorpgs.

My first game was FFXI, so I get your grouping standpoint. I'm also an adult now and dont have time for nonsense time sinks. MMO's are what you make of it. Go find a group of friends to play with

Or pick up a real life hobby outside of gaming. Youll better yourself for it.

I like group gaming, but I don't support your views. Choice is healthy. Back in the good old days, there was solo content and group content. No scaling. If you wanted the group reward you had to group, but there was choice in content. Cater to as many people as you can, and you may end up a success. Just don't try and please everyone or you will definitely fail.

Currently playing- SWG PreCU & GW 2
Have tried WoW, AoC, & Vanguard, SWG:NGE, GW, LOTRO & SWTOR
    Best MMO: SWG
    Worst MMO: SWTOR

I shouldn't feed the troll, but calling for someone to lose their job is a bit irresponsible.  It's called an opinion column.  They have them in these things called newspapers all the time.   Whether you agree with her or not, nothing she wrote would be considered a fireable offense.

  • DarkPonyDarkPony Member Posts: 5,566

Are you out of your mind OP?

    Genuine question^

If not, reread the column. You seemed to have missed the point(s).

  • Paragus1Paragus1 Member UncommonPosts: 1,741

Whether you agree or disagree with the content of someone's opinion, don't you think it is silly to silence voices that have a different viewpoint than yours?   Instead of trying to silence an opposing arguement, you could....I don't know...be civil and debate it?  Or you could just stop reading articles from people you don't like.
