Everytime a MMORPG is anounced, the very first thing you read is AAA, next gen bla bla bla.
So what is this really? , It means jackshit, it's just a marketing ploy to lure in gamers who think damn this game is AAA next gen it must be epic but it turns out to be exactly like the rest of the lot.
For me a AAA next game is a move foward in the genre not backward like we have seen with TOR but still it is listen as a AAA next gen, foward for me is more MMORPG, more deep crafting, none instant world, excellent graphics, fun and diverse quests, no rush to max beacuse there is plenty to do before it, more fluff, more social aspects, AAA is the game not rush to max and grind purple pixels till next x-pack and start all over gain.
AAA is the game you can play for years and have fun and always see something new experiance something now.
Stale quest hubs, pointless crafting, world on rails, lightspeed lvling with minimal effort to be able to raid till you are blue in the face is not AAA, its fastfood.
If it's not broken, you are not innovating.

Says who? you? all AAA means is quality, doesnt mean the games gonna last you for years, and something being AAA doesnt mean your going to like it either, get over it, its a few letters.
Any game with a high budget could be considered AAA, it meants nothing except to fanboys.
Apparently stating the truth in my sig is "trolling"
Sig typo fixed thanks to an observant stragen001.
I think triple A simply means big budget and you can have big budget MMOs which are garbage.
However next gen. I feel is nonsense. I have not seen anything next generation after release of WoW. Which was also not next gen but rather just the first casual MMORPG.
My gaming blog
AAA is just for big budget games. They can be and actually quite frequently are crap.
Next gen. Hmm I havent saw any Next-gen since SWG and Eve.
All others are preety much repeating same old sh..
Same old with voice overs (Swtor)
Same old with flying and stuff (DCUO)
Same old with double dipping (STO)
etc...
To me AAA just means that the game has a decent budget. There have been plenty of indie games that I thought would have made great games if they had only had the money to put into it.
we rarelly see corp saying their game is a aaa title ,but they will say!mmorpg user mentionned us as a aaa title!small difference but very importaant one!
My definition of AAA game are super polished, highly publicized, made by big name developer, games.

To me, AAA means it's a big, established developer with a decent track record of past game releases and who has plenty of money available to invest in making a game--and is willing to spend it. The opposite of an AAA developer is an indie developer.
The advantage of an AAA developer is that, if the game is terrible, it's not going to be because the company ran out of money. An AAA developer can say that a game will be released when it is ready and mean it, without anyone worrying that if the game is delayed by two years, it may be forced to release before it is ready to stave off bankruptcy and liquidation of the company.
AAA doesn't necessarily mean a game is good or not. As good as it was, Guild Wars wasn't an AAA game, as it was ArenaNet's first, and they had no track record as a company. Had Guild Wars 1 been a disaster, ArenaNet probably wouldn't still exist. On the other hand, FFXIV was an AAA game, in spite of being generally considered awful at launch. No one seriously worries that Square-Enix is going to disappear as a result of one awful game, as they still have a lot of revenue from other games--and are spending it to try to fix FFXIV.
Where this definition breaks down somewhat is big, established companies that don't mind putting out terrible games, if they think it's profitable to do so. Zynga has a lot of revenue, but FarmVille isn't really anyone's idea of an AAA game. I guess you could argue that they don't have a long track record, and could end up being a quick flash in the pan that soon disappears. And their games don't exactly look big budget. With some of the spam messages that they encourage, you could argue that some games are closer to malware than AAA.
Right about there is why the mmorpg genre is completely screwed. You want something breand new and innovative every month. AAA = Rift get over it
Even GW2 coming out in a few months will get stale once everyone blast through the dyanmic events and then gets told to wait 6 months for a content patch you have to pay for.
TOR I will agree would be a great game if it had released in 2006
Then in my experience, there are no AAA mmorpgs, and there have never been any....
------- END TRANSMISSION
AAA just represents their budget.
First Gen MMOs = Sandbox
Second Gen = Themepark
Next Gen = ???
Don't know, haven't seen one yet.
AAA game's are usually a lot more polished than others. Compare some of these indie MMOs to the AAA ones and you can see the difference easily.
I don't think the AAA title is for something really innovative, just polished, even if it is a polished turd.
Next Gen = going back to PNP
I wouldn't say polished, just big enough budget that if the game doesn't run a profit it will likely bankrupt the developer.
Like All Points Bulletin.
As other said AAA is a counter to Indy. It is a show of their budget, experiance and team size. So while we expect more from a triple A title it doesn't mean it will be better then an Indy title.
I will not play a game with a cash shop ever again. A dev job should be to make the game better not make me pay so it sucks less.
