This post is about the amazingly awful videos that have been released since the press beta and why people continuously use them to make assumptions about the gameplay of GW2.
A good 90% of all the videos made since the press beta are complete crap. Yet people continue to use them as if they are the absolute information on the gameplay.
My first problem with the videos is most of them are not played very well at all. Throughout most of the videos people do not use the profession very affectively or they don’t have commentary or they just plain suck. I was under the impression that press members of major gaming websites would be more informative in their critique of the game and its gameplay. Was I sorely mistaken or what? Time and time again I look and find a plethora of garbage unorganized and shoty videos. Put together by what are supposed to be the front line question askers for the gaming industry. Before I get off to far on a tangent I propose the question.
What do you think of the quality of the videos that have been released?

It was a press event. You don't have that long to learn a character, nor learn the right way to use certain mechanics.
Only a couple of players actually did it correctly. Honestly, you can't expect professions to be mastered with a press event.
You cant judge any gameplay from any video in any MMO, without extensive knowledge of the combat system.
Tough some of the people that have been around for a couple of years here have clear visuals about what the gameplay will be like, and they can refer to the video's when explaining things.
Most people however have no clue about what to expect.
Best MMO experiences : EQ(PvE), DAoC(PvP), WoW(total package) LOTRO (worldfeel) GW2 (Artstyle and animations and worlddesign) SWTOR (Story immersion) TSW (story) ESO (character advancement)
The only video anybody should watch till a while after release is the video of karl PvPing at gstar.
I would agree and take it a step further. Even playing beta yourself for the first 10+ levels may not give you a feel for the overall outcome of your enjoyment in a game. My case is SWTOR in which i (and the wfiey) played beta and absolutely loved the game based on a weekend of play. Unfortunately, for us, it did not turn out so well after playing the game in it's full capacity!
The question is what You watch the videos for?
I don't care about some in-depth strategies at this point of game developement, I do not care for game journalists playing optimally or even well. I watch them for basic information. Information like what's the class basics, how the world feels, some examples of interesting mechanics, and most of all, which is the whole point of any commentary media - the personality of the commentator.
I'm not watching those videos to judge the game or to be in awe of complex encounters. ArenaNet specificed what can be shown, the game is still under strict NDA that dictates how much of the game people can show. For those who follow the game since it's conception mmany of those videos will only be repeating what they already know, and you know what ? It's fine.
Press events like this are to showcase the game to as many new potential customers as possible. You need to show the basic ideas behind it to get people interested, and if you want to do it well, as a gaming commentator, you can't really waste time on practicing pvp prowess with single character for 48 hours. Your goal is to show as much of basic stuff as possible. You run to areas to show underwater environment, you run through all the main cities, you try to find some interesting DEs to showcase and of course do a detailed information on each class ability to give people general idea of what they can expect from the game.
Mostly decent.
So you act like this is the presses fault? Go blame ArenaNET. If the game had come out back in 2011 like was mentioned or 2010 like was also mentioned we would not be having this discussion. The press had a full 2 days if that to play the game and were given lvl 30 characters. So uhhh excuse them for not being pro.
Once again you just show how delusional you are, what exactly would releasing back in 2011 change? The press still would have not known what they were doing, so whether its 2011 or 2012 it wouldn't have made a difference. Either ways, the press got instanly buffed to 30, so their skills would still be subpar to a proper level 30.
btw, shouldn't you be off QQing about something irrelevant like why rift or swtor is the worse game ever?
