I would love to play this. Enough to pay the regular full price that games cost these days without blinking. And I'm not a fan of shooters. In fact, I generally dislike shooters, so that really tells something. But buying a console just to play one game. No, there's the limit. I don't want to play it that badly. Sorry CCP.

I still can't wrap my head around as to why they go for PS3 only. Pretty much every good licensed engine (like UE3.0) is multi platform these days. So even if they want to keep it on consoles only to seperate the PC EVE players from DUST514, they could have doubled their profits by also releasing it to XBOX360. /shrug

CCP isn't releasing it on xbox because MS won't open their platform to allow updates the way it needs to be for an MMO. That's why there haven't been any released on Xbox. As for the not being on PC it's likely that in order to get Sony's support CCP had to agree to a certain timeframe for exclusivity. Also Sony would not want the game competing with  Planetside 2 so keeping it to PS3 till Planetside 2 gets off the ground makes sense.

They've already implied that it will be released in PC eventually.

Because keeping it exclusive means they get or have got "soft" funding money from Sony.

Personally I dont think it was a good idea. When 100% of their current customers are on PC (Mac's included), just means they have to hope a percentage of their "captured" fan base will make an effort to play on a console.

And when it comes to multi-player FPS games for the console, Xbox domintes.

I don't think they're aiming for their current customers to play DUST. They're looking beyond and hoping to ensare FPS gamers who may or may not even know that EVE Online exists. If they can sell a million copies I don't think they will care how many of those are current customers.

I know it's going to be F2P image

    But I don't have a console image

That's why I said I'd be willing to pay regular full price that a game normally costs ($50-60), but I simply can't justify having to buy a PS3 just to play it, even if the game itself is "free" (F2P rarely ends up being truly free in the end). I'm not a console gamer, so I have no other use for a PS3 really and I'd rather spend the money on PC hardware instead. Basically, I'm trying to say that CCP has come up with something so unique that I'd buy it if it was a regular PC game even though I'm not into shooters at all, but because it's PS3 only, they're missing out on me and a bunch of other players. So I'm both praising and cursing at them at the same time.

well its simple, it's nothing to do with graphics engine or support of graphics, its microsoft dont allow mmo's to release patches without geting them certified a process that may take weeks, also they dont allow any mmo's to run that dont go through to the xbox live server's so you'd need an xbox360 subscription and quite allot of modifications to the xbox360 version, with such restrictions it would take ages to release each new patch for your mmo which if multiplatform would have to share it with less restrictive platforms but they'd all have to run in same server on same patch generation to work properly and an mmo without constant patches is buggy and not enough features would get released its just plain bad business, which is why there are very few xbox360 mmo's (it's worth noting I own two xbox 360's and a ps3, and about 5 pc's and 2 laptops :D), dust514 wont natively support keyboard or mouse, however you can use one of them convertor things you can get from amazon to run any game through a mouse and keyboard as long as you can get use to the movment. (with games with no native support it basically just swaps certain input signals the console receives gamepad commands as normal meaning it will still feel partially gamepaddy though this depends on how accurate the engine is designed to be with regards to gamepad controller accuracy.), but best you can get for for folks happier with keyboards and mice then controllers.

Anyhow yeah atm for some odd reason son's ps3 is the only console with an open policy for networking side of things for mmo's atm, so expect them to appeart on ps3 and dont hold your breath otherwise.

Because of Microsoft's online enviroment, it wouldn't let CCP manage as freely as they want their game not to mention their patches.

its simple enough. the xbox live servers cant support the crossconnect between 50,000 players online at the same time in the same universe. all multiplayer games on the xbox360 must run through xbox live. which is just a pipeline into the private network run but microsoft for its gameing systems it works good for connecting small groups of people together for deathmatches but can support the 50k simultanios connections for the chat and data channels employed over eve-online. all its games are run on scores of servers all interlinked into the same universe. plus eve and dust are both heavily interlinked into the internet through chat channels, Voice over Internet channels, wiki's guild pages, databases and 3rd party programs that all work together over thr brauder universe. there is even a web browser built into the eve-online interface. no such thing exists in the limited Xbox live system. there are no web browsers for xbox as all it does is link you into the Xbox live limited network.  the internet for the xbox is just a transport medium like a phone line but does no actualy allow you to use any of the internet other than the virtual private network into microsofts systems.
