LF Game, I'm a huge EQ fan previous to LDoN

ChemcalChemcal Member Posts: 32

Hey guys,

I'm just roaming around looking for a game that's already released or coming out soon. EQ was my herion back in the day and would love to play a game like that again with a strong population. But we all know those days are dead. I won't play an EQ Emu mostly because of the lack of a strong population, aswell as it's not new.

I enjoyed early World of Warcraft, but the end game is lacking way too much for me. I'm not a fan of how it works and it feels like the same thing since burning crusade, only prettiery colors.

In summary, what I would like to see in an MMO

Fantasy based (atleast not sci fi)

Strong community and large population

Pay to Play preferred

Not theory crafted to death

Non korean grindfest or imagery (preferred)

More adult community 20+

Released recently (6 months) preferred

If you see my list and can't think of anything, throw it aside and suggest some really cool games that are comming up, I don't even care if they're MMO's or not at this point. I'm just looking for something really fun to play that's unique and different. I seen realm of the mad god on a previous thread, and I over played it long ago :P

And definitely a heads up on new games that are coming out, I'll more than likely be picking up D3 when that's released but if it's similar to the D2 style of play, I like to keep diablo as my side girlfriend not my wife.

There are no games similar to (old school) EQ that have been released in the past 6 months to my knowledge. Even going back a few years, I can't think of any games like that. I would be playing it.

I too seek this holy grail of MMO's. LDoN was a very fun time. I time where curiosity wiped your entire group because some greedy mage was trying to ninja a treasure chest. Sadly this time has come and gone. I cannot tell you what would be exactly comparible but I can tell you what is close to what you want and what you might enjoy.

Fantasy based (atleast not sci fi)

Dark Age of Camelot (Traditional Server) - This game was active during the same time period in EQ's prime I had many real life friends leave EQ for this game. I cant say that I enjoy being bludgeoned by zergs in RvR but it is a very fun game and the graphics are beautiful like an aged wine.

Age of Conan - Action based that would get your heart rate going if you play on the PvP server, not as punishing as EQ1 but this game still keeps a great fantasy theme even if it has its flaws.

    Strong community and large population

Both have strong community. DAoC doesnt have an insane population but the amount of players per server feels just right. AoC has a healthy population since it has gone F2P.

    Pay to Play preferred

Both games have P2P features. AoC P2P is optional but nice.

    Not theory crafted to death

AoC is very unpredictable when it comes to damage. Cant say the same for DAoC.

Non korean grindfest or imagery (preferred)

    N/A

    More adult community 20+

AoC has boobs. DAoC has an older crowd probably mostly in 30's.

    Released recently (6 months) preferred

Both have been out for atleast a year most definitely.

If you happen to find something that you really like even if it isnt what I have listed send me a PM I would love to hear what you picked.

Just stick with everquest. Its going free to play, and that means the servers are going to be packed. I think it goes free on the 16th. Besides EQ is the best.

The OP was asking for Pre-Lost Dungeons of Norrath. SoE has butchered the game completely away from its greatness why would be want to do F2P? It is like getting spit in the face.

I can understand the Korean imagery part because that's all up to one's own taste, but I don't see how you'd look for a game that isn't a "Korean grindfest" yet still say you're looking for a game like EQ1. That game is the very definition of a grindfest (and I'm ok with that).

If Hello kitty online was the ultimate MMO i'd probably play it even though the imagery isn't of my taste, but as for the korean grind fest vs EQ there is a huge difference. EQ developed into a grind fest later, but the earlier days I remember it being more exploration and grouping. Getting together with people and being social and having alternate routes for fun instead of non stop leveling.

I'm begining to think what made EQ so great was entering the game as a true newb to online gaming.

I picked up Hacker Evolution off steam during the 50% discount, I'm having fun with it. it's interesting but quickly realized its more of a strategy game instead of a 1337 h4x0r thing.... I feel like a total tool/dork/wannabe playing it, but it's fun.

I believe you're more correct on the latter point. I've seen gameplay from classic EQ1 emulators and it's certainly grindy from the very start. On top of that, starting fresh with no hand-me-downs can be quite grueling until you get better skills and abilities (meleeing as a caster, for instance). I would say that the communities I've seen are far, far better than actual AAA live games I've played in the past five years, even if the populations are as low as 600 or so people.

Not alot of options with what your looking for.

Im going to throw Vanguard out there even though it doesnt fit everything your looking for.

The Community is great. Although Not huge like you want.

Has the same kind of feel as Everquest.  In fact it should have been Everquest 2. Great classes, Crafting, Diplomacy and a huge open world to explore.

If you havent tried it, it may be worth atleast looking at for the free trial.

Archeage will probably be up your ally but its still a ways off unfortunately.

Comparing EQ1 and the asian grinders is pretty much a joke...EQ1 had a huge interesting world to explore...Msot of the asian grinders you just kill mob after mob after mob with nothing to explore......If leveling up was your only goal in EQ1 then I could see where people thought it was a grind, but if you just played and enjoyed the journey it was alot of fun.
