No great axe?

mmovassmmovass Member Posts: 35

I was just wondering why there is no 2 handed axe in this game?

I find it especially strange given the amount of 2 handed axes in the concept art in addition to the inclusion of 2 handed swords, and hammers.

Just seems like a strange weapon to leave out imo.

I thought there WAS 2 handed axes, but i just went look, and nupe, none in sight. No clue as to why.

They could add em in as cash shop items, maybe they are heading in that direction with them. Not OMGPWNU strong, but say same stats as the two handed sword. dunno.

Because they need to leave out weapons, to give them more room for an expansion. Also the Warrior already has a bloated skill-set. No need to give them more, whilst leaving the Engineer, Thief and Elementalist high and dry.

Engineers get kits that give them all sort of different skills. The only thing the Warrior has over Engineer is more offhand options. Elementalist gets the same amount of options as the Warrior does. Thief though I will agree with since they only get 4 MH weapons and 2 offhanders.

I'll just give you the benefit of the doubt and assume you meant "skills" instead of "stats", since giving them the same stats doesn't make any sense, although sharing skills doesn't make a lot of sense either. How do you impale someone on an axe? Have you seen the greatsword animations? That is not how you hold an axe.

If they add them later they'll be expansion content.

Yes, but theif do get additional options as the third skill changes based on how you combine their weapons

Overall i think engineers are the skill champs , as they get  kits and tool skills (the last efectively doubles the number of their utility skills)  Elementalists are a close second i think

I'm wondering the same thing OP.  Personally I would much rather use two handed greataxes over two handed hammers any day of the week.

Like others said, expansion pack.  I'm hoping for ninja throwing stars myself.

THERE IS NO CASH SHOP other than for vanity items (meaning costumes, etc).

Well, they will need weapons to add after relaese, don't they? MMo's are expanding universes in every sense of the word.

I am sure there will be 2H Axes down the road.

I know plenty enough about gw2, but maybe i need to clarify what i'm saying.

I was only suggesting they MIGHT add them into the cash shop if people wanted them enough, and then clarified by saying it wouldnt be P2W, in that it would have the same stuff that a 2 handed sword would have. Not the same skills as a 2 handed sword as another poster mentioned, but something along the same lines. instead of imaling someone on a sword, they could just make a new animation, and call it beheading or some shit.

Onto your cash shop idea, there IS a cash shop, you cant, in the same sentance, say there is no cash shop then say there is. what kind of logic is that. I know what they said was to be in the cash shop. Even if it were vanity items./costume, why couldnt they throw the 2 hander in there if it had no advantages over a 2 handed sword? would that not be a costume item?

If you think that 5-day golem banker isn't going to be in the item shop, you're only fooling yourself.

This is the reason imo as well. They need to balance the skill numbers as well. But adding new weapons and skill sets is easy as pie with that design. So i believe we will even see some modified weapons in the future (like a posion sword that posion instead of bleed with sever artery etc. etc.)

There are a lot of things left out of the concept art. The Fans of the mesmer art has yet to make an appearance, no 2h Axe, no Scythe, no Cannons (remember charr dude with the huge cannon over his shoulder?).

I agree with what others have said, I think these are merely concepts at this point and will probably make it into the game later as expansions, especially since some of them are associated more with the other continents (fans = cantha, scythe = elona).

Well I hope that a permanent golem banker would be in the cash shop. Would mean that me saving money, by getting the Standard Edition, would be a really good thing in the end and such an item is more of a convenience thing than something essential for gameplay. Now a completely different weapon, with new skills and can only be acquired there, is something essential for gameplay and would never wind up in ANet's cashshop. That is if they want to avoid any major backlash.

There could be Greatswords with a Greataxe skin but I doubt it.

  • mazutmazut Member UncommonPosts: 988

I also like the great axe, but I dont intend to play warrior and dot care much :)

  • RequiamerRequiamer Member Posts: 2,034

They should make great axe, great swords just skins, and give them the same abilities imo. Same with polearm, those are weapons i just love, they look so great, don't know why they don't have them tbh.

Are you kidding, right? Elementalist might have a small weapon set, but they more than make up with Attunements. They have the highest number of skills out of all classes.

Don't forget that there also are summoned weapons (by the Elementalist) aswell as unique weapons in some personal quests, with different skills and, especially true for the later, no need to make them the equivalent to other weapons. I wouldn't wonder if there are already great axes, scythes, fans, cannons and whatever in the game, just not as regular weapon.
