So F2Ps are here to stay and we are all starting to see more and more threads of people crying and whining about how the F2P model in (insert your game here) is a rip off and not worth it. My question is this? What did you really expect. Money makes the world go round and all these companies are not working and putting out products/content etc etc.. as a charitable contribution to the gaming comunity. All you people wanting everything for free you might as well forget it.. The reason these F2P models are catching on is because developers realize that the majority of newer younger gamers have the attention span of a 2 month old, and will hop in a game for a short time, play it for a few weeks spend some money in a cash shop and jet to the next new shiney that comes along. They intend to make the most they can with an audience like that.
They make their profits by F2Pers who believe they are getting something for nothing.. Sure play for free just pay for everything you need to actually be able to play.
I continue to laugh at all the people who have pushed for F2Ps, and by pushing doesnt exactly mean yelling out on forums for it, but by jumping to every game that goes F2P to get their new fix.. Now they can cry at what has been delivered to them. These companies are not gamer charities.. They are out to make money. Which is completely understandable. In closing I would like to thank all the QQ going on in the forums. It has lead to some good laughs! Now back to my Subscription based EQ2 where I have access to everything!

EQ2 kicks ass. It's still my favorite subscription game (I don't play free to play games). In my personal opinion, the free to play model just sucks. I've never done more in a free to play game than download the game, log in, look around at the game and cash shop and log out. I can't play those games. Give me a monthly fee and I'm good to go. We'll see how GW2 does with buy to play, I may like that model, but free....free is not free, free is just effed up.
All hail the EQ2 community and EQ2! I salute you all, and I shall return one day I am sure. Just need a break after 7 years. It's been a year and I'm still on break, but hey....it still has my respect.

Your acronym use has me confused because FTP means file transfer protocol. Refering to free to play is F2P and often coined P2W (pay to win).
I find that F2P MMOs are often not much more than a open trial where you can insert money if you want to actually excell in the game. Games that go F2P also give gamers a change to play it when they normally wouldn't have with a sub. Unfortunately some don't even survive long enough to make that transition (Earthrise).
You are right, there is a lot of humor to find here.
I find the use of the term "QQ" funny, myself. Its so old and ridiculous-sounding these days. Like "1337" speak.

FTP = F2P
Personally, I love free to pay games(as I call them). Its a combination of a free try at the game and the option to drop money to open more features. Curerntly I play Battlefield Heroes and Age of empires online both of which are F2P. I've also dropped money in both. I'm also eagerly looking forward to GW2 with its F2P model. I also don't get the compliants either. I've been buying video games to PC games since the days of zelda. I think this setup is perfect. Now the unresearched fear of pay to win, is mostly a myth. I haven't seen a game yet in which that is true. Now I'm not saying there aren't any like that but I haven't seen any yet.
I find it interesting that the OP mentions going back to play subscription based EQ2, which I happen to be playing currently in F2P mode.
I like F2P for the reason that I can find out if my system will run the game before I put down a bunch of money on the game. So far my computer seems to be running it ok, and as such I will probably end up subbing, but had there not been a F2P I would not have even attempted because everyone in the hardware section is telling me my comp sucks and probably wouldn't run PacMan.
A few people I have spoke with in game say they play F2P because the feel they shouldn't have to pay (darnned entitlement attitudes), which I disagree with, but a F2P trial is awesome for getting people to try the game.
The reason they tell you your computer sucks is because most of the people who dont have a job and cant afford to pay for a subscription was gifted with Top of the line hardware that fell, err umm floated from the heavens. Since you were not gifted with such hardware yours truly must be completely outdated, and wouldnt really be able to run pacman. Maybe if your lucky it would run PONG.
LOL ya i have pretty high end LAPTOP. After I bought it I posted the specs of it on here and people blasted it as well. I sat back and laughed.
I don't mind subscriptions; I don't mind F2P. What I do mind, however, is the combination of both.
There are no P2P EQ2 servers anymore.
All are now F2P-freemium ones.
Apart of that I agree.

You seriously calling people that prefer pure P2P games as people that want everything FOR FREE?
You don't see you contradicting yourself?
Bad troll is bad.
Frankly, I don't get why there is so much debate over business models. Personally, it's the game that matters. I think people are just arguing the stigma that is attached to them. I juat play what's fun, regardless of the model.
Er, people who play F2P games generally like F2P games and see no problem with them.
I'm not a fan of the B2W model as I ran into in ROM, but as done by Lineage 2 I have no issues.
I prefer sub games (currently playing SWTOR) but if GW2 turns out to be great I'll gladly go with the B2P model.

I have enjoyed alot of games since f2p came around...What I didnt like in the past was having to blindly pay 60 bucks and then a sub just to try a game.....With f2p there is no obligation and if I dont like the game there is nothing lost......I have never paid to win and almost never even look at the cash shop......Some people think there is no such thing as a truly f2p game, but I am here to tell you that I and many others have played many of them without paying a dime.
The problem isn't the games or the format.
The problem is the community.
There is this sense of Entitlement where every game should cater to every person. And the problem is that lately the companies have been TRYING to cater to everyone. Look at ToR or WoW if you don't believe me.
A sandbox player will likely favor sandboxes.
A themepark player with favor themeparks.
Some people like F2P, some B2P, some cash shop.
Why should the fact that some people play a game 200000+ hours keep me from playing and achieving the same thing in 10 hours?
Why should those people who play 1000000+ when I can just throw a little bit of cash at the problem and have it instantly?
It's all in the perception and lately this communities perceptions is VERY MUCH a "ME ME ME ME" mentality. And if you aren't for "ME ME ME ME" you're a hater and should be attack viruliently.
Havent seen any good F2P game that stated as a f2p mmorpg. Every good f2p mmorpg was once sub based. And i think it will be forever like that i need just to look how many more trashy asian f2p mmorpgs gonna come out to know it wont change anything.
I havent played a F2P MMO ever since I got my first job. I dont miss them either, playing P2P games has given me an insight of how awfully bad (borderline illegal) the F2P model really is, which I didnt fully realized back then.
lol, and i came here thinking of some FTP site are doing something wrong...

Free to play is fine as a business model. The problem is when the necessities of playing said free to play game cost more than a monthly subscription would cost. For some games this doesn't become evident until you're well invested in the game in terms of time spent.
There's always the fail turnaround/backstabbing that some of these games and their devs/publishers go through too. I remember Allods Online at one time cut everyone's damage output by half out of nowhere, and the only way to get that other half back was to stock up on a cash shop item. I don't know if they've reversed that, that happened awhile ago but it makes it harder for me to trust my money on these kinds of games when things like that happen at whim.
