Does Tera have any meaningful pvp? like land control and such? Also please for the love of the goddess tell me there isin't any pvp earnablke gear? because pvp earnabl;e gear ruins pvp as a while since it excludes pve players who might wanna try it, but give up since normal gear is just not sufficent. I am sort of teetering on the edge about buying Tera or just skipping it.
how fast is the leveling? I am worried its going to be too fast like most mmos that have come out where u can hit cap in a day or 2. I like leveling to be rewarding and hittign cap in a day or 2 just doesn't do it
Being a pessimist is a win-win pattern of thinking. If you're a pessimist (I'll admit that I am!) you're either:
A. Proven right (if something bad happens)
or
B. Pleasantly surprised (if something good happens)
Either way, you can't lose! Try it out sometime!

There is no PvP in Tera like that, or at least there won't be at launch (no one knows what might come later). No territory capturing, no pvp looting, no pvp rating, etc. Just some instanced "battlegrounds" and normal open world pvp if you play on a pvp server, and duels.
Unfortunately there are almost no top quality MMO's with meaningful PvP left. EVE Online, WoW Rated BG/Arena (maybe). That's about it atm without going into indie, very old, or cash shop games.
As of now only meanful pvp in your context is arena where you fight for fight to rule certain areas, other areas ruler are voted in. We are getting server vs server in the future as in before summer ends. That will be meanful as you fight for control of other land in 4 way server way. As for seige there is none yet, although the dev are the same people who made L1 and L2, i don't think they let it pass. There is PvP gear, however with how the game works its not a big issue as skill >gear on equal lvl term.
Lvling is fast, thing is most people don't like grinding so nothing to do about that. Err playing a lot you cap in 2 week? Casually 1-2 month.
The battlegrounds have a rating system.
Also I will probably scedule a lot of 60 deathmatches for money with other guilds to be honest, so that is meaningful.
Deathmatches are group duels you can have up to 10v10 and it allows for items or money to be bet on the outcome.
Also I believe your guild can gain control of certain territories in TERA through battlegrounds, that is how it is in Korea, not sure how it will roll out in NA.
Future content updates mention Server vs Server PvPvE will be coming, servers will be ranked and fighting for dream shards. We shall see when that gets announced and know the further details.
At present BG ratings and territory control are not in the NA Version up to the latest CBT. What will be in at launch VS the Korean version is anyone's guess (no one but En Masse knows). Here's the official page: http://tera.enmasse.com/game-guide/pvp
A quick look through official posts didn't reveal any further info on PvP for the NA version, although if I missed an official announcement someone please correct me.
Otherwise atm, if its not on that page, its not in the NA version of Tera.
Arena and poltical system are end game content so they won't be in Beta with cap probably only as high as 38. However launch will be lvl 60 so those content will be in there if even the cap is updated since korea only got lvl 60 cap like 10 days ago.
That's because it is CBT, we won't get to a high enough level, many things aren't in our version yet like Water effects, footprints or dust effects in the desert, any NPC or mobs above level 40, LFD, 58-60 content.
We also still have things that are going to be removed on release, like player shops and boxes of mischief.
It's anyones guess what the battlegrounds or dungeons level requirements will be on release.
As for territory control, we know we will have that through politics for sure.
So if the replies in this thread are correct the BG will have a rating system and the political system and guild matches will take place in the arena. Where does that leave the open world PvP?
There are certain queer times and occasions in this strange mixed affair we call life when a man takes this whole universe for a vast practical joke, though the wit thereof he but dimly discerns, and more than suspects that the joke is at nobody's expense but his own.

BG will have raiting and half the political system, open world pvp is still there for guild war and just random pking. I guess the future 4 way server war is kinda like open world pvp, just open on a different land mass =X
Wait what?
Guild vs Guild takes place anywhere all the time...you don't even need consent to wage war, you just pay a fee and that guild is now at war with you.
Also you can schedule 10v10 deathmatches with anyone for money or items.
There's also, OWPvP in general, while questing, in groups, for world bosses, inside open world dungeons...it's factionless OWPvP, I don't know what more do you expect?
You gain Vanarch through pvp , is that meaningful enough ?
Vanarchs are leaders of the provinces of Arborea.
The TERA politics is going to be driven entirely by players on each server. The main political goal of the players will be to become Vanarchs, who have "a -****-ton of power, a ****-ton of money, and a ****-ton of fame." You can become one either by popular vote or through brute force ( PVP ) . Vanarchs are able to raise or lower taxes, open shops in their provinces, enable or disable open PvP there, and do many other things that are usually out of the players' reach in most MMOs.
Vanarchs will need to collect Policy Points in order to remain in power. They can be gained in two ways - either through popular vote or the extremely challenging Vanarch quests, often involving gigantic monsters and other epic-level fights, involving not just the Vanarchs themselves, but also armies of their subjects.
The two most coveted Vanarchies will be earned through pvp.
There we go much much much less painful to read XD
Thanks i was in a bit of a hurry when i posted it so i didn't have time to correct it till now but you already did that.
np i was really tired too when i was reading it so made it even harder when my sight was already blurry barely showed up even when i highlight it. Now that i'm awake its not that bad XD
O ya so regarding the there is some confusion with this line:
Vanarchs will need to collect Policy Points in order to remain in power.
From what i been hearing so far is idk if you like legitly need so many policy point to litteraly stay in power. Like it cost you 1k policy point per day or you loss your title. But what I do know is that it cost large amount of policy points to keep shops open. So this matter greatly for the place that require votes is what you promise and what you deliever. If you make a wild promise of let say opening all speicality shop and trainer to get votes but in reality you can't get enough policy to do that than chances of reelection are low. But I really want to know if there is a required policy cost to stay in power per day or something.
I might pass then. Battlegrounds are pretty awful. If I wanted to play super instanced PvP with little to no long term meaning, I'd just get into MOBA's like everyone else is these days. I was hoping for L2 with updated graphics and action combat, but seems they decided to go 'that route'. BGs - turning your dynamic persistent worlds into e-sport arena lobbies...
Battlegrounds are coming in "late summer".
Just not worth my time anymore.
