Jusr saying. Ok, my MMO career did not include the original first EQ, I started with SWG and the Everquest II, which I liked a lot. I miss the Everquest world. All the places, Qeynos and Freeport, the races and the lore.. Aww, those were grand days. Yeah, nothing to see. I just felt I had to say this. ^^

Come play it then, for free. You might need to buy a pie off a rat down near booty bay though.
Classic Everquest
I just started a iksar necromancer so look me up if you do, name is same as here.
I hear you, I started with EQ then went to EQ2. I still get chills listening ot the opening theme of EQ2 and I play once in a while. You know what drives me crazy? A hundred skills I can spam and the animation timing between skills and auto attack is off. Your ability animation goes off and then you hear the swings of your auto attack but only see the last part of the swing, at least with dual wield. Sounds petty I know but it drives me nuts!
If EQ Next is what it should be, a modern version of EQ, I'll call it home for a long time. I'm not holding my breath but I can still hope.
Just not worth my time anymore.
I dont get OP.....both games now have FTP. Hell I fired up my EQ accounts the other day to see chars I hadnt logged in since like 06.
Of course folks ya played with yrs ago probably wont be there....but is that any different than from other games? Everybody eventually moves on.....just a question of if the server is the first to go.

I can't play the old Everquest. The graphics of EQ1 is just too outdated for my taste, and I played EQ2 for 5 years or so. I want a fresh new EQ. ^^

everything I want in a game is in EQ2-pvp, yet I just cant get into an old game when I am constantly looking for something new, hopefully EQNext will fill that role
EQ died in 2002 with Planes of Power, although the themeparkisation started even before with with Shadows of Luclin in 2001. The real EQ spirit was the "Everquest Trilogy", the original game plus the first two expansions, The Ruins of Kunark and The Scars of Velius both in 2000.
An honest review of SW:TOR 6/10 (Danny Wojcicki)
Echo this sentiment for me. Velius was the best and worst expansion because it had so many good things, but the seeds of the end were there too. ToFS on that first day Velius opened was wild. Can't get enough of slippery floors and traps.

QFE, The original, Kunark, and Velious were the golden times for this series. You can find that world, exactly as it is, just not by Sony.
I agree completely. At first I loved the Planes of Power, the portals and the Bazaar, but the insta-travel did actually spoil the game, particularly for classes that could use transport spells for themselves and party members. I missed paying for 'ports and eventually knowing the Druids & wizards rather well, and I REALLY missed the player-created trading post in The Tunnel. It had a lot of atmosphere and was far more interactive than the Bazaar.
Totally disagree.
I started EQ just prior to the launch of Velious. The addition of PoK was a nice addition. What wasnt nice was how raid focused PoP took things. I quit playing my pali, cause there simply wasnt any type of use for a paper tank. SKs were hit as well. Unlike previous expansions, PoP only had like 6 zones(including PoK) folks could see without raiding. Thus is was raid or miss out. Caused lot of resentment.
PoP also finally broke the spirit of the raid guilds such as our local servers Afterlife. They spent yrs dealing with unfinished content containing made cock blocks, to keep them away from unfinished zones, while receiving the "working as intended" from SOE. WoW devs sent guilds like AL, FoH, and others invites to their game, and things went from there. The GoD expansion just made it worse....it had content intended for lvl 70s, but the cap lvl hadnt been raised.
Trying to paint it off as "quest hub" being the issue is rather silly IMO. There was a number of things that was happening, and POK was one of the least impactful from where I was standing.
