World of Warcraft: Mists of Pandaria: Beta Upcoming

SBFordSBFord Former Associate EditorMember LegendaryPosts: 33,129

The World of Warcraft: Mists of Pandaria blog has been updated with a new post titled "Beta Opt-in and FAQ" which reveals some details about the upcoming beta. The number of participants will be increased over time beginning with Annual Pass holders, press, fansites, friends and family. Those who are not in any of the groups listed can "opt-in" to the beta for consideration as well.

How do I opt-in?

Once you’ve set up a Battle.net® account and have attached at least one Blizzard game, you can choose to opt in to our beta tests from the Beta Profile page. You’ll need to select which franchises you’d be interested in helping test, as well as download and run the System Check tool to attach your computer’s specifications to your beta profile. Once that’s complete it’s simply a matter of waiting for an invite.

The WoW:MoP team has put together a nifty FAQ that you can read on the World of Warcraft blog.

A word of caution: beta testing these days seems more a marketing exercise.

What happened with SWTOR was that 1 million people 'beta tested' the first bit of content, which was really good. Then all the 'beta testers' recommended the game to their friends.

    This hyped the game.

The problem is that SWTOR's longevity isn't good. We need to learn from SWTOR and be cautious about WoW.

Yes because we don't yet know if WoW has longevity. By the way - panda panda is the manda manda!

This is an expansion, not an entire game like SWToR. WoW has the most content of any mmorpg.

Death is nothing to us, since when we are, Death has not come, and when death has come, we are not.

I think they're going to have a lot of upset people who got the annual pass, but still end up waiting till the last wave of invites.  I feel like one of the big selling points for people was beta access... not "eventual beta access".

Everything creates huge amounts of negativity on the internet, that's what the internet is for: Negativity, porn and lolcats.

I think eq may trump wow in content still, but wow was the first mmo. You may just be right.

I think it depends what you define as content. My biggest critisism of WoW is that much of it is "kill 20 beasts in a field" quests, over and over again.

I actually wouldn't mind this if the beasts didn't feel like the same beasts with different looking skins.

i'm amazed however, skeptical because in the past to make anything well everyone knows it took Blizz four forevers to come out with every beta. And now here they claim they are in beta soon for MoP, i'm sorry but it may just be some recycled graphics a new tiny zone and pokemon pets and that's it. I don't put any faith in their department actually putting out great and bountiful content in this time frame especially with the marine biologist in charge. This expansion is due to be a big disappointment most likely.

Not me atleast I signed up for annual pass pretty much because I have had a active sub to WoW since release and to  me this was just getting free stuff the mount plus diablo3 for a game I have been subbed to for years anyways and have no thought of unsubbing.I never play betas except for new games and then ONLY to see how I like the game.I don't go into any beta and wanna play the game kinda pointless as it ruins your game experience even before the game comes out.Even when i get my mop invite i am 99% sure I won't use it.
