What MMORPG to choose???

LorthLorth Member Posts: 6

I finally just got high speed internet! w00t

I know, I know, how did I survive with a 56k modem??? Well ive come back from killing myself out of frustration about 13 times now.

What MMORPG should i choose? Im a huge fan of Starwars, but ive heard too much crap about SWG from ex players since the new combat thing came out, and about the company doing nothing at all on the customer service end

Ive been playing Blizzard games ever since Warcraft came out. But ive heard that WOW get boring after you max out yer char, and since i have tonz of time on my hands, id be able to do that.

D&D looks promising but at the same time, seems like that will get really really really boring after awhile.

I need Lucas to go and make a new MMO for Starwars, because I need a good game to play

I suggest waiting for something new to come out. Some of the new FPS MMORPGs sound nice. Like umm... http://www.webzengames.com/Game/APB/default.asp. You migth have to wait a WHILE though:O. It looks good, sound fun, and doesnt seem like it will bore anyone :D.

if the choice is between WoW or SWG stay SWG

or if your looking for a new mmorpg i suggest u go either (hack n slash) DAoC or (space) EVE

EVE also is more progressive of the 2 in terms of incorporating innovative features and ideas into the mmorpg genre and breaking away from the lvl grind and the "eq clone syndrome" of the genre of today image

I too am thinking about switching to another MMORPG.

I found SWG great, loads of people, if you know where to look, and the skills system was great. But i hate SOEs customer support, in the sense that if 99% of the players think that something is a great idea to put in, the idea is rejected. Today i got really annoyed because the latest patch divided the xp per kill by how many members are ina group. The CU was to encourage group hunting, and it worked. Now their cutting xp for being in a group? SOE doesn't like listening to popular player ideas. I just hope the xp change was a bug, and not an intentinal nerf.

So i'm thinking about going for a non-soe MMORPG and thinking between FF 11 or Guild wars. The monthly fee doesn't bother me, i'm more intersted in player support by the company.

don't join swg it's an endless grind, especially now they made the CU = worse. Soe doesnt listen to their customers. Don't join a SOE game join WoW or something.

There is one game that im thinking strongly about. Its not massively multiplayer, they consider it to be massive single player. Its called "Spore"

Bassically its an evolution game. you start out as a single cell, crawling through primortial muck like pacman, then you evolve to a primitive version of what you want your race to be. creature sim like black n white almost- then when they become a civ its like a RTS. once your species figures out space travel, you can go and fight against other peoples species. seems sweet if you can completely modify how you want your species to be.

To answer that we would need to know what things you play for, what criteria make a "good" game for you:

For instance, I prefer games that actually remember the last three letters in the MMORPG: RPG. Roleplaying. At no point should people who are roleplaying "talk" like they do in normal life (nor should they affect some idiotic British accent or force "talking" like that), it means that they should be aware that by choosing to play a Paladin, for instance, they're supposed to be the ultimate martial expression of law and good and justice. Seeing idiotic Paladins in WoW dancing around low-levels trying to taunt them into dueling (when they've already said they don't want to) is EXACTLY how NOT to roleplay -- and a good example of how to behave in exactly the opposite way your character/class sets up. And moronic "l33t-speak" is the most obvious way to see the LACK of roleplaying (hello, WoW).

I prefer games that are immersive -- so, the fewer of the games mechanics that forcibly remind you of their presence in the gameworld, the better. Two examples: the idiotic ? in WoW, which is akin to saying that people aren't smart enough (or, more accurate, patient enough to take two seconds to think for themselves) to figure out that they need to talk to people to get quests, info, etc. Look to EQ2, which has people talk or wave in your direction, for a good example of staying WITHIN the game-world context and yet making it clear that someone has information for you. And now to slam EQ2, the artificial "grouping" system, which very forcibly shoves itself into the gameworld context. You can "target" one Gnoll, for instance, but it will be artificially tied to a gnoll who's not even in sight or within earshot, who happens to be over a hill, but who will come flying when you attack the first target. Why? Doesn't make sense WITHIN the gameworld/environmental situation, but because of the game mechanics that are intruding counter-intuitively into the environment, it happens.

Immersion also requires deep lore and a feeling that you're actually doing something. Asheron's Call 1 was great that way, particularly when they had their very regular "world events" that often had very tangible visual, geographic, and plot-textual CHANGES to the game world because it wasn't a STATIC gameworld. EQ1 had some things similar, less geographic and more environmetal in feeling (loved the skeleton rushes at the Queynos Gates). WoW, for instance, thinks that putting Santa Clause (which makes no sense in the context of the World of Warcraft lore, but hey) is a "world event" and actually brags about it. Or elemental invasions that I had to LOOKING for and even with a 50+ lvl character never could find (some event). EQ2 is static in some ways but has CONSISTENT lore (haven't seen the Easter Bunny in the game yet and probably won't, it wouldn't make sense).

Anyway. Depends on what you like, what environments you like playing in, etc.
