HeartWalk 2005

dsorrentdsorrent Member CommonPosts: 1,627

Hey all... some of you may remember about 6 months ago I posted on here in difficult times when my, then, 6 month old baby girl, Kacey, was going in for open heart surgery. You all offered great words of advice, support and prayers which helped my wife and I get through the most difficult time in our lives. Again, I thank you all for that.

Well, I am happy to report that Kacey is now approaching her one year birthday on August 27th and she is doing fantastic! She's up to just over 23 pounds and she's been maintaining oxygen saturations in the 95-100% range! Just after the surgery, the doctor's told us that she may need another one when she's around 2-4 years of age, however, the doctor recently said if she continues to progress as well as she has, she may not need that second surgery!

I wanted to post here today to give you all that update and also let those of you who are interested, I am working on a Kacey's Website which will (hopefully) soon be updated with latest pictures and such of Kacey as well as her "story" and detailed information regarding her heart defect and surgery.

Last, but not least, Kacey (as well as my wife and myself) will be participating in the 2005-2006 Heart Walk in Charleston, SC. The walk is to help raise funds for the American Heart Association who pays for medical research that enabled the doctor's at MUSC to save Kacey's life. We feel it's a way that we can give back to the community. If any of you are interested, you can check out Kacey's Heart Walk page. There's also a very recent photo of her on that page as well.

Anyway, thanks again all for everything you have done for us.

I wasn't here when she had her surgery or when the people gave their support but good luck. I wish the best for your daughter. I have a niece who is coming up on 2 years old sept. 2 I think and I love her to death. I don't know what I would do without her. I will look into the America heart association and helping their cause because my Aunt's granddaughter had to have heart surgery at 1 and the baby's mom couldn't take the stress so my aunt adopted her granddaughter and she's doing fine now. once again good luck.

    P.S.~My b-day is August 31st

LOL.. ya, those are our two dogs... the black one is Chance and he's about 7 years old and the shephard is Hunter and he's about 6.. They are great around Kacey now... when we first brought her home, whenever she would cry, Hunter would run in to see if she was OK... and he's an obsessive compulsive dog with a one track mind, so basically, he would just knock over anything or anyone in the way... It was pretty funny... Chance wasn't sure what to make of Kacey... he was almost shy.. but now that Kacey has gotten to the point of dropping food on the floor, he likes her a whole lot more.. He even goes over now and lies next to her so she can pet him (which then she winds up with furry hands that she puts in her mouth, of course)...

I know your wife made you edit your post and add the "BTW" part... hope she didn't beat you too hard.

    ;)

Awesome news DS. It's glad to see everything's going pretty smoothely with that whole situations. Your daughter looks like a very cute and healthy baby.

God bless you, your daughter, and your family in the next couple of these possibly trying years.

    Just a quick update...

I was just recently made aware that the website only will accept a donation of $25.00 or more. Apparently, if you would like to submit a donation for less than that or by check you can use this form. The form contains a phone number to contact if you need more information as well as the address to mail your donation in to.

Also, for those of you who are interested, Feb '05 and Mar '05 pics have been added to Kacey's Site. One word of caution, February was when Kacey had her surgery, so while the majority of the pictures for the month of March are spectacular because she no longer has an oxygen tube, there is one depicting her scar. The scar extends from the top of the rib cage to the bottom of it. As she grows, so will the scar. It will always extend from the top of the rib cage to the bottom, no matter how tall she grows.

    Thank you!

I cannot express in mundane words how glad I am that your little girl is doing well!

I think it's the objective of your past self to make you cringe.

  • dsorrentdsorrent Member CommonPosts: 1,627

Through the incredible generosity of everyone, Kacey is currently the #1 fund raiser for this event! Thanks to all who donated and to those who have passed on the word...

Every little bit helps! Keep up the great work! Thank you all SOOO MUCH!!!!

Just wanted to let you all know...

A friend of mine posted Kacey's information on the IGN.com message boards and many people there responded to his postings. Some negative, some hateful but alot of them were very supportive. One thing that came out was that people wanted to know if they could donate via PayPal. The site that is collecting the donations is not, so what we've decided to do was if someone would like to donate via PayPal, they can send the money to my PayPal account and then I will either write a check (for less than $25.00) or post the donation online using my own credit card or checking account, since the site does take direct debits via checking account as well.

If you should decide to go this route, please provide me with if you want your forum name, your actual name (from your PayPal account), or something like "anonymous from MMORPG.com" or whatever posted on the scroller for recognition. You'll see there's currently someone from IGN listed on the scroller.

So I wanted to pass along the information. If you would like to donate via PayPal, you can use Sorrentino@SoftHome.net as the account to donate to. When the donation is made for less than $25.00, I'll write a check that night and get it out into the mail that evening.

Thank you all for your support!

For those of you interested, Kacey has made a short movie to show how much she loves life... and the bath tub.. :)

You can see her clip here.

She's hoping in her display of happiness that people will want to give other babies the chance to enjoy life like she is.. Support the HeartWalk 2005!
