I wish users age was systematically shown ...

No offense, but it would save so much time ...

Some people simply prove by the flow of one said debate that they just don't have the education or the maturity to understand how things work in real life, hence in video game industry. So you spend long posts trying to explain things calmly, with  arguments that come with your own experience in the matter, but still the guy doesn't understand and continue to camp on a misguided position.

I mean, to you guys over 25-30 : would you really spend the same amount of time explaining things or trying to have a debate with internet users if you knew from the start that they were 13-18 years old ? Sometimes let's face it, certain degrees of explanations are futile towards youngsters. It's no blame to them, but you can't understand certain things before a certain given age.

(in before some young people taking it as an offense and dramatizing out of proportions)

edit : yes guys, there are always exceptions of course. But let's be honest, in general, you can't expect a kid to understand why certain business decisions are made, how for example a complex production chain works, or how new financial mechanics (cash shop ? ^^) could be a better dev support than a sub. etc ...

    No way.

How am I going to convince people that I am 14/F/Korea if I'm obviously a 20-something white slob?

I dont need age to be shown. If someone is an idiot, i treat him as such, no matter is he is 13 or 62. If he can be reasoned with,  i try to do it, even if he is 8.

The community surrounding the gaming industry has debates that I believe are being argued by people too young to have enough life experiences to offer valid arguments. I can offer a valid argument using the wisdom that comes with age, but, generally, younger members of the community will fail to see the reasoning behind these arguments. They will continue to support their misguided position.

For those of you over 25, would you still offer an argument stemming from life experience, maturity, and wisdom to someone who has none? Let's face it, some concepts are hard to understand at a young age. I do not blame younger members of the community, but I don't believe arguments crafted from life experience and wisdom are easily understood until you are a certain age.

Is that what you were trying to say? That was hard to understand, so that helps. I'm guilty of posting some silly(ly) worded posts as well when very tired... it's pretty late.

     I've been here a while...

But sometimes, when a guy is not that bad and just shows a lack of comprehension, don't you naturally want to explain him, even if he starts to object everything ?

25-30 are mostly kids also imho. They still have the arrogance of youth without the wisdom of age. More so, rather than thinking they know it all they know they know it all. Of course 8 out of 10 will never have an IQ greater than there hat size so any sort of logical debat will be doomed to failure. While we are stereotyping shouldn't that be 'blonde woman that is someone elses wife'?

In my experience younger posters take the forums more seriously, middle ages men tend to have the primary aim of trolling.

@ OP maybe you should rethink just why it's so important to you to be right and for them to see it. They're just some random person on the internet, if they don't get it the first time who cares ?

I think this is a secret gripe wanting to know if the mousey voiced chick on the other end of the voice chat is really 14 years old or not.

Joking aside; I think all humans become raging fuckwits when filtered through the internet. No matter the age. So it'd just be some more white noise we'd tune out when calling another human being a fuckwit.

We're just repeating a cycle. An era of entitlement gone good, followed by one gone bad, world escalation of violence, new leaders say sparkly words, content politeness will return shortly after. Just because most humans now are raging fuckwits.

I used to play MMOs like you, but then I took an arrow to the knee.

You're totally right ... But there's this "give the guy's a chance" in me. I had some real great discussion times on the net (granted, it was back at mIRC era..), so I always see the next random internet guy as a potentially great discussion. Maybe I shouldn't.

It's true, I can't cease to be totally whacked by how internet people in general turned so entitled and so agressive in 10 years.

... and it is becoming more familiar so people believe they can be themselves. The truth is when people are otherwise polite when you meet them irl, that's the performace, that's their mask, what you get on the web by and large is who they really are.

Yes! Though I am aiming to become a teacher, so it's not that unusual for me I guess. Also your statement is quite a prejudice. On some games I have already been talking to 13 year olds, who were nice, polite and had no problems discussing interesting topics with me. On the other hand I have 50 year old friends who are acting childish ever so often.

This is a matter of maturity - not of age.
