I don't think I'll be trying any of CCPs future games unless there is a pretty strong action taken on their part.

I used to play Eve and yeah, its hardcore. But this is way, way over the line.

If it is even a real thing and not just Mittani and the goons trolling (as usual). lol

Even if it is all made up it reflects very badly on CCP, if someone else from the game dies as a result of "making harassment acceptable" then it still falls on CCP and Mittani

If you don't agree with mocking stupid people then don't do it. It's not like he was forcing you to do anything.

Depression is recognized as a mental illness and does not make someone who is suicidal "Stupid".

While i can't say who comes across as stupid in this post(will get banned for it) i can say that some of you defending this deplorable action come across as less than intelligent.

Nice to see how some people are coming to throwing out things such as how other users comes across as less intelligent before we know if this is actually real or not.

It being real is not the issue. You can't just call out for people to harrass someone else. If this is tolerated or laughed at, real or not, it just proves how low people have sunk because they think they're so frikkin awesome.

CCP has to act.  A line has to be drawn.

    Opinions, opinions.

If it's correct as stated in the article that CCP has a suicide hotline then I don't see how anyone could blame them at all.

  • EmwynEmwyn Member Posts: 546

uh does it matter if it's real? Since when did suicide or bullying real or imaginary become entertainment? That's what jokes are, entertainment. This isn't funny. Anyone who is sitting there chuckling needs serious help. Wow seriously I dunno what to say. Personally it WOULD make me think twice about a company that allowed this sort of stuff to be broadcast live at one of their events. Personally I hope it's NOT real because then a whole lot of people won't be worrying that some ignoramous has pushed some poor soul over the edge or at the very least plotted to do so. I dunno what I think about the gaming community as a whole when this crap becomes acceptable in any way by any one.

Because companies in the real world do not allow their events to be used to call for the harassment of a mentally ill person, it is very simple really.

The whole point I made is how about that, obviously it makes difference if Mittani is just trying to troll everyone and in the process puts some attention to people who actually does things like this or if hes actually trying to make someone kill himself.

[mod edit]While someone who is depressed ain't doing the smartest thing by killing himself over pixels it MIGHT just be the last drop. However this smells way too much like Mittani & co trolling than a real case of depression.

He won't get perma-banned or, anything like that, he is one of CCP's poster boys for the game. After all intrigue and hype just sells the game more, but, mitti. is acting like a little child who doesn't consider the reaction, or, the responsibilities of his actions.

I'm still waiting for the day when CCP is presented with a huge lawsuit over a player who gets caught in Real Life over scamming people, and, then blames CCP and Eve Online for encouraging the behaviour within the game. After all, people will mimick idealogies if they believe they can get away with it.

Well if he did off himself I would say better for the human gene pool, because if you want to kill yourself over some virtual ore you really need not to exist.

    You are sick. Really image

I agree it's sick, some might say the same of someone with a psychopathic lack of empathy rather than the troubled person

Sickening indeed. One of the main reasons for me not playing this "game" is that it seems less to be a game and more a platform for sociopaths to try and grief, scam and by any means hurt other players. This is not FFA PvP, this is something entirely else. PvP, FFA or not, is still about a game and Eve Online is more a social experiment on how people would behave if there was no laws, moral or otherwise.

This is an idiot who needs to be shown that his actions are unacceptable, the game is the game just that a game where the rules or lack of ate clear to anyone joining.

A dude killed himself. Most of the ppl here dont give a shit. Think about that before you blame someone else. But yes, the EVE community is at best borderline weird. It was bound to happen.

No one killed themselves. Most people it seems do give a shit. Most Eve players are decent human beings. It was not bound to happen.

As hard as it will be for CCP to actually do something they probably need to. Letting this just fester on wont be good in the long run. We like the fact that we have such freedom in the game and that it allows us to play as we like. The bad guy or the good guy, but it's NOT cool to bring those things to the outside world and try to exploit them.

I don't know if Mintanni or whatever what's the dude to commit suicide I am not saying that. What is the point is that he's taking an action that is well know to be frowned upon in the online community, EVE is it's own thing but people shouldn't forget that the world opperates on a different set of morales..

No matter how warped those may be also..

    He's wrong.. Just wrong

There are real world laws to cover this, specially in the UK, and I am sure the US as well as a few other nations, this guy should call the cops, its one thing to banter with some one in game , but to be public and out the guy and then call on others to have a go as well is a breach of the law and the goon could see the inside of a jail cell as a result.

A video of the whole thing can be found on YouTube at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E7Ki91U-mBE&list=HL1332571817&feature=mh_lolz - I got the link from an EVE forum post.

It's great fun in the beginning with the first couple of guys, especially the wormhole guy, but when the Test Alliance dude shows up some 40 min in I started facepalming and when 'The Mittani' shows up at around 57 min in I was shaking my head in disbelief over how childish some of these people are. I looked up the in-game profile of this 'The Wis' guy and from reading his bio, it smells like a big troll. Which doesn't really make him look all that much better in my eyes. A drunk immature kid at best.

I'm a big ol' fluffy carewolf. Be afraid. Be very afraid.

What if this turns out to be a Goon hoax?  Wouldn't that be shocking.

“There are certain queer times and occasions in this strange mixed affair we call life when a man takes this whole universe for a vast practical joke, though the wit thereof he but dimly discerns, and more than suspects that the joke is at nobody's expense but his own.”

Interesting, I know he has already been in prison before, though it wasn't due to anything in eve. Would be very amusing to see him get jail time for this, doubt that'll ever happen of course. But I would laugh histerically if it did. And possibly raise my hopes for humanity as a whole for the first time in a decade. I love the fact that CCP gave out his full name and from there I and anyone else can obtain his home address, perhaps "someone" will begin a similar campaign against him? :)

Still, this isn't anything new in eve.

To find an intelligent person in a PUG is not that rare, but to find a PUG made up of "all" intelligent people is one of the rarest phenomenons in the known universe.

It wouldn't be any more shocking than if it were true. The general attitude of SA goons is right down there with /b/, they're scavengers of human misery on the Internet for their own personal lulz.

Whether it's a hoax or not is immaterial, it's not something that should be joked about.
