Guild Wars 2: Pre-purchase Info, Beta Weekends & 3-Day Head Start

SBFordSBFord Former Associate EditorMember LegendaryPosts: 33,129

The Guild Wars 2 Wiki has been updated with a nation-by-nation list of retailers who will be accepting "pre-purchases" of Guild Wars 2 beginning on April 10th. Pre-purchasing Guild Wars 2 will make buyers eligible for all beta weekends until the beta phase ends prior to release. In addition, pre-purchasing any edition of GW2 will net a 3-day head start ahead of the official launch.

Check out the list of retailers on the Guild Wars 2 wiki.

Ugh...Canada is stuck with EBgames.  Unfortunately, it looks like we won't even be able to order it from Amazon.com (which we usually can do)  - and oddly, Best Buy isn't on the list for us either (even though it's there for Americans)

Keep looking at the list. They said on thier twitter that they are still working on getting more retailers. I would have to assume Amazon and bestbuy are going to be added to the list for you.

For the first game we had Best Buy, Future Shop, EB Games in Canada. Sure the rest will probably come maybe even Walmart!

Just for prepurchase. Apparently Steam wouldn't offer it (according to Twitter):

"To clarify: Steam is not offering pre-purchase, I did not talk about launch. ~MK"

Really would like to know the exact reason they won't offer it. I don't see any reason why they wouldn't. As it is, if you want to get in the betas and get the extra stuff AND want it on Steam, you will have to buy the game twice. It would be a nice gesture if they gave us a cd-key that we could redeem on Steam at a later date.

This. They already have a pretty good tool for doing D2D, so I'd be shocked if they didn't use it for a title this big.

To clarify about the pre-purchase for some of you who may not have been following:

    1) No, there still isn't a release date. This appears to basically be a move to both raise funding to keep polishing the game (and release it later), as well as give more people the opportunity to try it out in beta.

    2) The reason places like Amazon aren't listed, is because they have policies which prevent them from charging a game until it has been delivered. Since the pre-purchase asks that you pay for the game early, this kind of defeats the whole purpose.

I know for some this may seem like a shady move on Anet's part. Especially if you don't particularly like them as a developer. This system is basically both an attempt to further polish the game before launch, as well as for fans to show their support for this developer. It's only beta & a 3day headstart. For those dying to play this that's huge. Otherwise (if you're on the fence) it'd probably be best to just wait it out.

as much as #1 would make sense.  id really like a source on this.  "raising funds to polish"  you are implying that Arenanet is broke, and im not sure they would want you to spread such a rumor.

    I've got the straight edge.

Yes if you want collectors edition (with beta's and headstart), you have to buy it from Gamestop, thats you're only choice, but they are working to add more retailers

pre purchasing from the website on april 10th will get you into beta's and headstart, but they are only selling digital copies, no physical ones

  • DakirnDakirn Member UncommonPosts: 372

I'm starting to prefer digital copies. Not really interested in the CE stuff. My SWTOR CE stuff is already taking up a corner of my living room.

Besides these days it's just easier to download a client. After a year or so, by time you download all the patches for a physical copy you could have downloaded almost all of the regular client anyway.

Plus it's one less piece of junk I have to store somewhere. I already have enough of those around..
