I smell a viral marketer from another company claiming to be a viral marketer from EA/Bioware. Joking aside I'm not willing to just accept someone making that claim, however, since it is known to happen to some degree or other it really makes forum discussion problematic. You get to the point where you can claim that anyone who doesn't agree with you a shill/plant. If I don't like a game and voice my displeasure someone can accuse me of being a shill for another game just to shut down the discussion, and holy hell if you happen to give a good review for a game that isn't popular on these boards. That will get you called a shill faster than anything.
From 4chan? I don't like EA either, but let's not begin using 4chan as a legitimate source... People have been impersonating Bioware and EA employees there ever since Dragon Age 2. Even if this employee really did work for EA as it seems, he could just be mad at EA for being laid off and trying to carry out his personal vendetta by saying the bad things that people "want" to hear about EA. He is a viral marketer after all, he should know how to smear EAs name by pretending to "confirm" the bad rumors about EA, whether they are true or not.
It's impossibe to really tell if someone is a shill or not, even if they "confess." Remember; everyones an "ex-convict"/"quantum physics professor"/"game developer"/"military badass" on the internet.
Funny thing, if people were actually being rational on discussion forums the shills wouldn't have any impact at all, since no-one should take a complete strangers word for anything.
So things like "They will fix it in patch X.X" or "They said this and that" wouldnt fly with nothing to back it up, and thats how it should be. Sadly theres a lot of emotional junk clouding peoples judgements in discussions.
But it is funny that there are certain people that turn out for every single thread to defend a game as if they are paid for it. And you know exactly who those people are going to be, and they are there. If they were having so much fun with the game, you would think they would be playing it rather than in all the forums defending it.
There are certain games like that with steadfast defenders, not just EA/BW. I don't know if they're shills or what, but it's strange if they're not. Why would they do that instead of just playing their great game?
It's not to say there is any conclusive evidence, just that it's not beyond being possible.
Sounds like another proof to me how gullible people on internet sometimes are. Yeah man, sure you're a hot gamer girl with C-cup and awesome looks just like those other 100 people I talked to before who're strangely enough closet photo models too. Yeah man, sure you're a genius with 2 academic degrees and a job in/expert in game theory or politics or whatever a forum you're spending most of your time on is about. Yeah man, sure you're viral marketer or deepthroat that just happened to have come out of the closet, join the rest of the gang who has done the same, see that long row there. Yeah man, sure you're a rich guy that out of the goodness of his heart is willing to share his golden secrets on the internet if I'm interested, or willing to do this or that small little thing.
People believe what they want to believe. Apparently some believe everything if it sounds attractive.

It's not beyond possible, I guess that another world war breaking out within the next decennium might not be beyond possible or another terrorist 9/11 in this decennium might not be beyond possible. Actually that's not quite true, I think companies might have other companies doing some jobs like that, viral marketing, shilling or defaming other companies from time to time, might happen more often than the chance of another World War.
But if continously defending a game is a sign of possibly being paid, then I'd say that this site alone already has hundreds of shills, from SWTOR to WOW to GW2 to Rift to EVE to TSW to TERA to you name it.
Even more if you take this train of thought one step further out of the box and start considering that bashers/haters/trolls might even be shills and viral marketers too, but then paid by other companies as one way to deal with the competition in the neverending corporate warfare.
I think if we put this alongside interview with the developer who spoke candidly about how rough the TOR development was there is some weight to what was posted there.
Of course it could just be someone who read the interview and got some graphs and carefully crafted replies to some random board.
Or the big conspiracy - is this part of the viral marketing itself?
Play for fun. Play to win. Play for perfection. Play with friends. Play in another world. Why do you play?

Being a sorority house pillow fluffer by day, I don't have much time to read such articles as I am very tired when I get home at night.
It might be fake , or not. But what is not fake is that EA has viral marketers , and many other companies too. So who cares if the confession is fake, when the fact is true ?

Disgruntled employee who got laid off. Nothing new here.
Yeah laid off employees aren't known for providing accurate pictures of company health.
(Although my own critique of a game company I used to work for ended up proving true, as years later they repeated the same mistake with more layoffs both times. Nowadays all the articles I read on the company never fail to mention its shaky financial position.)

The more I think about this, the more I think they would be better off having one guy read the forums of their game and identify the fans of the game, not just the fans, but the fanboys, and pay them per peice. That way they would actually have people who enjoy a game defending it with their actual views rather than something made up. The biggest downside of this is the fact that it would only take one person rejecting the offer then coming to forums and telling everyone about it. So upon further review, maybe not.
Yeah, so after typing it out there are more problems with it than originally in my head.

Choose one of the below:
a) because they are at work and they cannot play that great game?
b) because they already FINISH the game?
c) because they are waiting for the dungeon to pop?
d) because playing a game, even a great one, 24/7 is detrimental to your health?

As damning evidence goes... That's so weak it can't hold up its own head.

4chan anonymous posters have soo much creditably.
I'm calling it a fake unless I see some time stamped pics.

Although most of the viral marketers you will never suspect they are.

True or not, SWTOR is still the most linear crap-fest I've ever experienced within the genre.
Are you Kim Dotcom?
Wouldn't that make him a Megabot?

It's pretty easy to spot them if you studied marketing or smart enough to read between the lines.
I could make few names that operates in MMORPG.com if I didn't get banned, so I won't.
But so you know guys, they are around and they are many, and there is nothing we can do about.
