EVE Online: 13k Concurrent Players

EVE Online continues to set records. Their website boasts that they have now smashed the 13k concurrent player mark in their massive, single-world, non-instanced MMORPG.

13K PCU Barrier broken

Sunday, August 14th at 20:33:00, EVE Online broke the 13,000 Peak Concurrent User (PCU) barrier when 13.422 players were on at the same time. This record is the latest in a series of PCU records following EVE's latest expansion - EVE Online: Cold War Edition.

To our knowledge this is a world record for the largest number of users sharing a persistent virtual world, where no sharding or instancing is used.

Good news for fans of EVE!

I love EVE.  It is just such a beautifully designed game.  And hardcore, which I love!

I love Eve too. Apparently, Guiness don't recognise the record, maybe Guiness are Technophobes. ::::02::

I was there watching it as it happened, was like 3 or 4am for me but there was no way I was going to bed when I seen how many people were on and knew the old record :)

Well done to all the players who were online to beat the old record, I hope we all break it again soon !!

I've been playing EVE since early Beta and even did a stint as an EVE CSR early on. EVE just gets better with age, CCP is doing a fine job of expanding the gameplay and community of the EVE universe. 15k is probably close on the horizon.

Get real its their own record.....

Hey it only took me 13 minutes to drive to work today instead of the 15 minutes it normally took hooray for me, call me when you get something that relates to an actual milestone. This is just CCP blowing its own horn.

mmm.... you name another MMO game that has as many or more players live on the same "server" at once.

    Good luck! ::::08::

Except now its a true world record.

EVE broke the record for number of players on a server in a 3D MMORPG a few years ago, hell probably during the beta.

There was only one record to break--the record of Nexus: The Kingdom of the Winds, a 2D game by Nexon (now Kru Interactive). The game was 2D, but the record was still there: about 12,900 people at once, on a single server.

EVE now holds the world record for MMORPGs, period. They're not blowing their own horn--they just set the world record. And next weekend we'll do it again, probably breaking 14,000.

Sorry to have missed it. Was getting my Master Pilot in SWG at that time.

EVE usually starts to get laggy at 12000+. How was 13000+ ? Or did Exodus and the distribution of players over more systems (new agent mission system) reduce the lag overall ?

    Have fun

I know generally when I get in a busier system even when it isn't at peek numbers it takes me an eternity to warp. Other then that I haven't witnessed lag MUCH, but I have had to deal with it a few times. Stay away from busy space and your usually ok.
