Don't mean to sound harsh, but I've never seen a successful MMORPG creator or team or whatever use the acronym 'lol' or have an un-spellchecked FAQ / Site.

Shop owning in this game intrests me. But I don't really think you will be able to successfully pull this off because gangsters will just go arround robing every shop.

you think robbing shops is easy lol well mafia online it wont be lol, firstly you need to get hold of some people to help you, secondly you got to go buy some bullets or whatever, thirdly the npcs dont take kindly to people coming in with rifles, so expect a shotgun to appear under the counter and the npc shouting at you with it pointed at you. and you will need skills and exp points, robbing shops is fun becuase you can gain a gangsters repuation but i would suggest wait until you get skills and make sure you wear body armour lol becuase the npcs will shoot you down, no calling the police lol
Yeah okay Im going to get you guys going for the RC engine (if you like easy scripting, unlimited ideas and nice okay graphics rc is the best thing that ever happened), basically, you get a thing called a pets system, okay thinking dogs? dinos etc, yes well all you do is change the dog model and animation o a man model (bodyguard i will use as an example) now he will follow you around, also he will also have the ability so you can give him orders (protect, kill, fire at will :P) so basically a pet can be anything, the best quote for the rc pets system was
basically the system lets players become generals - its true you can have armies of pets (any model you decide) and get them to go to war etc. attack each other at a click of a mouse, so you can protect anything from yourself, to the pet character standing outside your car all night making sure it doesnt get nicked, they also work like a player, you can upgrade there clothes, armour, weapons, so they have Player driven AI, you tell the pet what to do and you control him, even look after him (clothing etc) lol no naked men please :P so you can buy a security guard to guard the shop 24/7 with you knowing its safe, they even operate when your offline, set him to protect and your shop will be safe, unless you get crazy high skilled players with high tech rocket launchers then your kind of doomed, but hire more security guards heck you could start your army :P its not just security guards it basically hitmen, to foot soldiers to bodyguards, (more to announce soon) but the only thing u cant own is the bank, one it wouldnt be right lol, two the bank will be the hardest thing to rob, no you cant just go in there guns blazing you get gunned down by so many guards, but you have to move swift, take out cameras work as a team, even some banks throw off lasers and motion detectors, then go blow the vault door to pieces lol, this isnt a set game year so mostly anythings possible within a modern approach,

Well, it sounds like a great idea. I'm fairly wary about getting too excited by anything indy developers publish (most of the promise big, then realize they don't have the necessary recources, and shut down. Or either promise big knowing they don't have the recources or skills, and then release a crap client or don't release at all). However, you at least already have some content to show us.
Is it already in the testing phase? the way you talk about it makes it sound as if it is. If so, can you give us a short vid so we can get an idea?

Don't make this game suck by giving it another generic watered down rpg combat system. Lets see some fps (and good fps, no ppl taking 30 shots before they go down, unless they have some kick ass body armor).
Oh, and most cops don't have m16s. they carry a pistol (usually a 9mm or in some cases a .45 i believe? I think there's some degree of personal selection) and a shotgun (usually stays in their car). THey shouldn't get more automatically, the higher levels (swat, sf, or I would suggest since they're anti-mafia you have the DEA be the top cop branch, where you get the good shat like LAWs and m249s and XM108s). The benefit of being a cop should be that you get an automatic NPC 'bodyguard' (your partner) and can easily summon more NPCs to command (backup) without being a 'boss' in the cop branch.
You really would be better going w/ 1930s btw. I know, i know, our weapons nowadays are more diverse, and much more powerful. And you can get away with giving street thugs a lot better stuff, since it's so much easier to get nowadays. However, one thing you might want to consider is the cars. I can't see a car going 180 mph w/ any MMO I know of today's netcode. They'd lag into 70 buildings a second. Even w/ good netcode, that's gonna be a prob. However, with a car traveling 30 or so, you can correct easier if lag throws you off.
The models there ARE pretty low poly. BUt as long as everything is pretty clean and the anis are good it won't hurt too bad.
Oh, and as for shops. Don't have any complete protection. Logging off shouldn't mean your shop is invulnerable. Just allow ppl to lockup (don't make it auto, if someone is forgetful it's their fault). You should be able to install all kinds of things in your shop, like bars on the windows, roll down metal shutters (so that it looks like a nice place when it's open, a fortress when it's closed) higher level locks (must include lockpicking ) etc. However, if someone comes to the shop with a LAW or a block of C4, all the defenses in the world shouldn't stop them from getting in. Let the natural ingame systems protect against that (for instance, the droves of police which would come down). You should also be able to pay 'protection money' to both the cops and mafia. I guess w/ the mafia you'll be dealing with PCs, but if you do it with the cops you'll have the corner cops (you know, the guys standing at intersections and stuff in citys) always gracing your storefront, or near it. This'll scare off most mobsters. And make food a requisite If you want a shop system, this would really help. Even if you don't make it kill you to never eat or drink, at least make it so that your performance will go drastically down. ANd make diff foods realistically affect you. If a store sells crappy sandwitches made out of processed meat, it won't help you out much, it might even have negative effects on your player. However, a place that sells top shelf pizzas will fill you right up (their pizzas will that is) and the sodium in the pizza will give you a nice little boost above even your normal performance (level, whatever). I'm not saying have the game calculate sodium levels I'm just saying have good foods help u more.
Make ppl who never log off suffer sleep deprivation Lets have an anti stat whore/anti macro-er system.
Oh, and there should be super hardware that you can procure with a ton of complicated smuggling routine to paralell other games unique or rare items (but they should actually BE unique). For instance, a high level mafiosa, with a lot of connections (the npc smugglers you know) might hear a rumor about a tank which has fallen offa the army transport, and track this rumor down, and a few million later have himself a piece of top shelf high powered hardware. Stuff like this would be neat. Cuz you'd have to be careful with it (you go driving down the street with it you'll attract some fuzz prolly ).
Oh, no gta endless coppers, either. The cops should have a certain number of troopers and cars. Compensate for this by making them slightly more intelligent and powerful

*well the basic idea was binned, the games basicaly a mix lol the 1930's area are the slumbs and backally types, and some shops etc (becuase today we still see even in newyork the old buildings are still there, think of the game like that)

*lol one the you cant play as cops lol, you can play as detectives swat or fbi, cops are for the moderators, cops can ban people, we decided to give moderation of games a new style, play a cop instead of a guy who sits and watches the pc. yes npcs will be backup, but mafia online allows players to make there own groups (swat teams etc) with your friends there called guilds :P but with mroe options, mafia family creation has alot more to it then a guild building system.

*Yes we know, but we decided becuase the other game (the other mafia online project) have 1930s base, and we dont want to go that way, this game is best of both worlds, and realy you have no limitations, buy a f1 car go race on the tracks, no its not a job, things like taxis f1 cars etc have been put in so the players can use the imagination, maybe have guilds that are F1 teams, who knows :P

*shop ownership is upto you, pets will guard it if you ask, its part of there command system, corner cops no such thing, most are just players (unbalance? no, everytime the mafia levels or cop levels unbalance on 50/50 so if it went 51/49 the game will create an npc that will fill in for that lost one so itll be 50/50 again.

r*eleastic fooding we surveyed this in london with gamers and its a pull down, your a new player gonna go buy some food, WHAT im not paying for food thats boring, bascialy we can give you food and stuff but that boosts your levels for a certain time, no energy system added, foods a waste of coding.

*first you are talking about creating Ai lol good luck :P you can do Ai to a certain extent, we just intent on npcs are there for guides and mission selection, and some will chase ya down if you rob the shop, but other than that players make tehre own world. we have a control point system, each block(10 buildings) will have a control point on it. (city has arround 160) now 100 blocks could be owned by police and other mafia and others neutrual, also players can own blocks. now if a mafia gang decided to take over two blocks it will effect the way the games played, so if you want to live in a law driven town go for police (you get easy weapon access) if you want to join the ransk of the mafia and make it a crime town choose underdogs. players will decide how the mafia online citys are and how they are run.

no FPS style lol, 3rd person and 1st are acceptable, if you want a fps your looking at the wrong game, this is a tactial combat engine, you can fire like fps to ingage and hitmen can fire 1000 meters (depending on scope) from top of buildings to kill people, think of SWG

Like the idea of a mix in the cities
MMO doesn't mean just a crappy, watered down version of the already dull rpg base combat. SWG, for instance, is by no means a 'tactical shooter.' It has horrible, boring combat. Playing it i found that half the time it wasn't even worth it to use special shooting abilities (such as headshot, or whatever the little skill was called, they had a bunch of dumb useless buttons for you to waste on). Most of the time in swg, unless the guy i was fighting was VERY close level (if i was doing pvp) or i was for some reason taking on a monster right at my level (stupid for levelling, since it takes too long and hurts you too much) i'd either just let it run on default or idly tap my most powerful special attack. There's nothing tactical to it, nothing exciting to it. FPS systems are exciting, they require your attention. Watered down RPG systems are basically just for if your netcode can't handle FPS, or for ppl who suck balls at fps combat, and so don't like it Lol. No offense, but it's just that calling swg 'tactical' just raises so much hilarity and anger at the same time in me
why are you including a partial fps system (sharpshooters have fps?) and not just going all the way. If you're worried about scaring off the portion of the mmo crowd who supports mmo 'combat' because they can't handle fps, include a weak lockon like in the halo games (you get close to them and you get a lockon). You can turn this on and off, if it's on you get a fairly easy shot on the enemy's body (somewhere) but no real accuracy control - all you have to do is get the crosshair near them tho and you'll get an okay lock (have to keep following them kinda close or it'll fall of). However, you can turn this off if you have some skill, and go for good shots (head, chest, etc).
The dictionary definition of 'cop,' the first one that shows up on dictionary.com, is police, yet you differentiate them. Lol, why? Especially when it was pretty obvious from context that i was using 'cop' to cover the whole 'good guy' side. I mean, i'd think that's pretty plain. I'd also think that the entry level position for that side would be a police officer, but whatever you wanna do lol.
heh, plenty of games go for high detail textures to make up for low detail models, or super bumpmaps to make models look high detail. hehe, you guys didn't think it up ;0 i dunno if you were saying that, it just seemed kinda like it. hehe yeah, it has. But, tbh, that really will help (this is to mafia man). I mean, I know it's the internet, YOU know it's the internet, but the common joe doesn't know internet rules, and doesn't think that they should be applied to anything more than forums anyway. if you dont know this answer you need to do homework on mafia, in a pizzaeria owned by the mafia, they didnt sell a single bit of food, it was undercover opertations of coke dealing. And plus who would expect a pizza restaurant, there great hide outs for players. google the pizza connection mafia, you will come along a guy called donny brasco. read about it, its much enjoyable

Play SWG you cant fault it just becuase youve heard rumours, ive been witht eh game for a year now, and reached rank of dark jedi. SWG is very tactical when you get into fighs with rancors and huge monsters its good to have a guild along with you then you can manouver the rancor into traps. if that isnt a tactical example i dunno what is

lol, you dont know how much work we do, the game is ready for a screen its just one we show you one now there isnt much tension for our date we havnt announced two, we like to keep players waiting tension building. we are to busy at the moment to worry about screens, and videos like a said 31st of august expect something
I am a follower of RC, so I frequent the RC forums. Sysdevja is 16 years old. I'll repeat that...the lead Dev for this mmorpg is 16 years old. Not only that, the kid lacks the necessary grammar skills to even communicate his message.
Grammar check your own damn FAQ before you advertise...incompetent indie developers piss me off.
BTW, don't give a detailed list of features if you don't even have an engine yet.

In any event, I am lead writer for an MMO in developement using the RC engine. We realize the engine isn't released, so we don't know the limitations of said engine. Therefore, I am not on www.mmorpg.com advertising for our game, which is in pre-alpha stage. Name one other MMO with a lead Dev age 16 that is successful. If you can tell me one I'll believe in your cause.

Yeah okay Im going to get you guys going for the RC engine (if you like easy scripting, unlimited ideas and nice okay graphics rc is the best thing that ever happened), basically, you get a thing called a pets system, okay thinking dogs? dinos etc, yes well all you do is change the dog model and animation o a man model (bodyguard i will use as an example) now he will follow you around, also he will also have the ability so you can give him orders (protect, kill, fire at will :P) so basically a pet can be anything, the best quote for the rc pets system was
basically the system lets players become generals - its true you can have armies of pets (any model you decide) and get them to go to war etc. attack each other at a click of a mouse, so you can protect anything from yourself, to the pet character standing outside your car all night making sure it doesnt get nicked, they also work like a player, you can upgrade there clothes, armour, weapons, so they have Player driven AI, you tell the pet what to do and you control him, even look after him (clothing etc) lol no naked men please :P so you can buy a security guard to guard the shop 24/7 with you knowing its safe, they even operate when your offline, set him to protect and your shop will be safe, unless you get crazy high skilled players with high tech rocket launchers then your kind of doomed, but hire more security guards heck you could start your army :P its not just security guards it basically hitmen, to foot soldiers to bodyguards, (more to announce soon) but the only thing u cant own is the bank, one it wouldnt be right lol, two the bank will be the hardest thing to rob, no you cant just go in there guns blazing you get gunned down by so many guards, but you have to move swift, take out cameras work as a team, even some banks throw off lasers and motion detectors, then go blow the vault door to pieces lol, this isnt a set game year so mostly anythings possible within a modern approach,

Well, it sounds like a great idea. I'm fairly wary about getting too excited by anything indy developers publish (most of the promise big, then realize they don't have the necessary recources, and shut down. Or either promise big knowing they don't have the recources or skills, and then release a crap client or don't release at all). However, you at least already have some content to show us.
Is it already in the testing phase? the way you talk about it makes it sound as if it is. If so, can you give us a short vid so we can get an idea?
It sounds like the cities are each their own fragment servers or something, but you can travel between them? Or is each a completely different server? If you can travel between them, that'd be great, but what happens when you go from the 2005 servers to the 1930s server? Hehe.
What's the control system going to be? I strongly urge FPS, or at least TPS, i mean it's a shootout game! YOU GOTTA DO IT! Lol. Don't make this game suck by giving it another generic watered down rpg combat system. Lets see some fps (and good fps, no ppl taking 30 shots before they go down, unless they have some kick ass body armor).
Oh, and most cops don't have m16s. they carry a pistol (usually a 9mm or in some cases a .45 i believe? I think there's some degree of personal selection) and a shotgun (usually stays in their car). THey shouldn't get more automatically, the higher levels (swat, sf, or I would suggest since they're anti-mafia you have the DEA be the top cop branch, where you get the good shat like LAWs and m249s and XM108s). The benefit of being a cop should be that you get an automatic NPC 'bodyguard' (your partner) and can easily summon more NPCs to command (backup) without being a 'boss' in the cop branch.
You really would be better going w/ 1930s btw. I know, i know, our weapons nowadays are more diverse, and much more powerful. And you can get away with giving street thugs a lot better stuff, since it's so much easier to get nowadays. However, one thing you might want to consider is the cars. I can't see a car going 180 mph w/ any MMO I know of today's netcode. They'd lag into 70 buildings a second. Even w/ good netcode, that's gonna be a prob. However, with a car traveling 30 or so, you can correct easier if lag throws you off.
The models there ARE pretty low poly. BUt as long as everything is pretty clean and the anis are good it won't hurt too bad.
Oh, and as for shops. Don't have any complete protection. Logging off shouldn't mean your shop is invulnerable. Just allow ppl to lockup (don't make it auto, if someone is forgetful it's their fault). You should be able to install all kinds of things in your shop, like bars on the windows, roll down metal shutters (so that it looks like a nice place when it's open, a fortress when it's closed) higher level locks (must include lockpicking ) etc. However, if someone comes to the shop with a LAW or a block of C4, all the defenses in the world shouldn't stop them from getting in. Let the natural ingame systems protect against that (for instance, the droves of police which would come down). You should also be able to pay 'protection money' to both the cops and mafia. I guess w/ the mafia you'll be dealing with PCs, but if you do it with the cops you'll have the corner cops (you know, the guys standing at intersections and stuff in citys) always gracing your storefront, or near it. This'll scare off most mobsters.
And make food a requisite If you want a shop system, this would really help. Even if you don't make it kill you to never eat or drink, at least make it so that your performance will go drastically down. ANd make diff foods realistically affect you. If a store sells crappy sandwitches made out of processed meat, it won't help you out much, it might even have negative effects on your player. However, a place that sells top shelf pizzas will fill you right up (their pizzas will that is) and the sodium in the pizza will give you a nice little boost above even your normal performance (level, whatever). I'm not saying have the game calculate sodium levels I'm just saying have good foods help u more.
Make ppl who never log off suffer sleep deprivation Lets have an anti stat whore/anti macro-er system.
Oh, and there should be super hardware that you can procure with a ton of complicated smuggling routine to paralell other games unique or rare items (but they should actually BE unique). For instance, a high level mafiosa, with a lot of connections (the npc smugglers you know) might hear a rumor about a tank which has fallen offa the army transport, and track this rumor down, and a few million later have himself a piece of top shelf high powered hardware. Stuff like this would be neat. Cuz you'd have to be careful with it (you go driving down the street with it you'll attract some fuzz prolly ).
Oh, no gta endless coppers, either. The cops should have a certain number of troopers and cars. Compensate for this by making them slightly more intelligent and powerful

*well the basic idea was binned, the games basicaly a mix lol the 1930's area are the slumbs and backally types, and some shops etc (becuase today we still see even in newyork the old buildings are still there, think of the game like that)

*lol one the you cant play as cops lol, you can play as detectives swat or fbi, cops are for the moderators, cops can ban people, we decided to give moderation of games a new style, play a cop instead of a guy who sits and watches the pc. yes npcs will be backup, but mafia online allows players to make there own groups (swat teams etc) with your friends there called guilds :P but with mroe options, mafia family creation has alot more to it then a guild building system.

*Yes we know, but we decided becuase the other game (the other mafia online project) have 1930s base, and we dont want to go that way, this game is best of both worlds, and realy you have no limitations, buy a f1 car go race on the tracks, no its not a job, things like taxis f1 cars etc have been put in so the players can use the imagination, maybe have guilds that are F1 teams, who knows :P

*shop ownership is upto you, pets will guard it if you ask, its part of there command system, corner cops no such thing, most are just players (unbalance? no, everytime the mafia levels or cop levels unbalance on 50/50 so if it went 51/49 the game will create an npc that will fill in for that lost one so itll be 50/50 again.

*first you are talking about creating Ai lol good luck :P you can do Ai to a certain extent, we just intent on npcs are there for guides and mission selection, and some will chase ya down if you rob the shop, but other than that players make tehre own world. we have a control point system, each block(10 buildings) will have a control point on it. (city has arround 160) now 100 blocks could be owned by police and other mafia and others neutrual, also players can own blocks. now if a mafia gang decided to take over two blocks it will effect the way the games played, so if you want to live in a law driven town go for police (you get easy weapon access) if you want to join the ransk of the mafia and make it a crime town choose underdogs. players will decide how the mafia online citys are and how they are run.

no FPS style lol, 3rd person and 1st are acceptable, if you want a fps your looking at the wrong game, this is a tactial combat engine, you can fire like fps to ingage and hitmen can fire 1000 meters (depending on scope) from top of buildings to kill people, think of SWG

Like the idea of a mix in the cities
MMO doesn't mean just a crappy, watered down version of the already dull rpg base combat. SWG, for instance, is by no means a 'tactical shooter.' It has horrible, boring combat. Playing it i found that half the time it wasn't even worth it to use special shooting abilities (such as headshot, or whatever the little skill was called, they had a bunch of dumb useless buttons for you to waste on). Most of the time in swg, unless the guy i was fighting was VERY close level (if i was doing pvp) or i was for some reason taking on a monster right at my level (stupid for levelling, since it takes too long and hurts you too much) i'd either just let it run on default or idly tap my most powerful special attack. There's nothing tactical to it, nothing exciting to it. FPS systems are exciting, they require your attention. Watered down RPG systems are basically just for if your netcode can't handle FPS, or for ppl who suck balls at fps combat, and so don't like it Lol. No offense, but it's just that calling swg 'tactical' just raises so much hilarity and anger at the same time in me
why are you including a partial fps system (sharpshooters have fps?) and not just going all the way. If you're worried about scaring off the portion of the mmo crowd who supports mmo 'combat' because they can't handle fps, include a weak lockon like in the halo games (you get close to them and you get a lockon). You can turn this on and off, if it's on you get a fairly easy shot on the enemy's body (somewhere) but no real accuracy control - all you have to do is get the crosshair near them tho and you'll get an okay lock (have to keep following them kinda close or it'll fall of). However, you can turn this off if you have some skill, and go for good shots (head, chest, etc).
The dictionary definition of 'cop,' the first one that shows up on dictionary.com, is police, yet you differentiate them. Lol, why? Especially when it was pretty obvious from context that i was using 'cop' to cover the whole 'good guy' side. I mean, i'd think that's pretty plain. I'd also think that the entry level position for that side would be a police officer, but whatever you wanna do lol.

if you dont know this answer you need to do homework on mafia, in a pizzaeria owned by the mafia, they didnt sell a single bit of food, it was undercover opertations of coke dealing. Play SWG you cant fault it just becuase youve heard rumours, ive been witht eh game for a year now, and reached rank of dark jedi. SWG is very tactical when you get into fighs with rancors and huge monsters its good to have a guild along with you then you can manouver the rancor into traps. if that isnt a tactical example i dunno what is

I am a follower of RC, so I frequent the RC forums. Sysdevja is 16 years old. I'll repeat that...the lead Dev for this mmorpg is 16 years old. Not only that, the kid lacks the necessary grammar skills to even communicate his message.
Grammar check your own damn FAQ before you advertise...incompetent indie developers piss me off.

In any event, I am lead writer for an MMO in developement using the RC engine. We realize the engine isn't released, so we don't know the limitations of said engine. Therefore, I am not on www.mmorpg.com advertising for our game, which is in pre-alpha stage.
