MMORTS Games?

Hey, i'm looking for full feature, commercial MMORTS games. Not Ballerium, i'm sorry, but that's not a mmorts. That's a squad based strategy game (all you get is like sixty players, you don't have true recource gathering, you don't have city building, etc).

Not something like boundless planet, it's kinda lacking (i guess they made their own engine, and i think it's just one guy :)).

I want a full fledged RTS, except in a MMO environment, and suited for that environment. Basically, all the features (formations, recource gathering, city building, protecting territory, etc) blown up to mmo scale (instead of building a city, you're building an empire, with maybe some more socio-economic aspects thrown in for spice, and instead of fighting one or two guys over a map that represents mebbe a mile or so of space, you're fighting thousands of ppl (or allying with them) over a virtually endless map, with endless possibilities). Oh, and preferably good graphics :) tho if it's got all of that other stuff, then i can ignore graphics.

I'm thinking more towards commercial games than indy, because of the fact that while some indy developers are quite talented, they're not often able to pull together the team and monetary recources necessary to make a high class game. However, if there's an indy game that meets my requirements, more power.

Well really time of defiance, artifact, ballerium, and shatered galaxies are the only MMORTSs out there. All the other ones are some form of turn based. Also time of defiance and artifact are really just a RTS with games that last alittle longer. Ballerium is still is develope ment and then said that how they game is like now, mostly real time action insted of real time stratagy, is not how they would like it and they just don't have the funding to do what they want, turn it isn't a RTS with a big emasis on the stratagy,. It seams as though if Ballerium suvives and they get to do what they want with it it jsut might be what your looking for.

there's also boundless planet, but like i said, that's like a one man dev team so it's rather lacking. Closest i've seen yet tho.

Ballerium is just hyped up squad combat imo. And it's fantasy. Blegh. I don't really want fantasy rts. Not some warcraft crap, sacrificing unit numbers because they can't have high unit numbers and still have their high poly (but ugly and unproportionate as hell) models. I want something more like empire earth (1), except with unit numbers blown all out thru the roof (whatever you can support)(haven't played ee2, is it good? If so i'll be visiting torrentspy :)), endless map (not hard to do with a mmorts, just randomly generate a giant globe, then fine tune bits here and there to good defensive positions, or even build a system that understands what a good defensive position is, and builds them in itself)(or hell, let it go random and you'll have them anyway, just not as many), much smarter AI that can take complicated orders for offline (defend this position - retreat to point y if enemy attacks in numbers greater than x. pursue if enemy attacks in numbers less than x, etc).

Oh, and one of the best things you could do for a mmorts imo (something boundless planet has in limited fashion i think) is alerts for your cell :) BP does it with text messages. But what'd be even better would be to not just get alerts when your kingdom or empire is attacked, but to get specialized alerts and even be able to send orders back. Say you set up a text message for several diff types of attacks (attacks near point x or on wall section x send message "ENEMY ATTACK ON X!!!." You could send a text message "Query X" and it would report the enemy numbers observed by your units, how many of yours have been killed, how many theirs, etc, you could send "Attack plan zulu" and a defense you have set up ingame (like an enlarged football playbook play) will be initiated with the reserve you designate, or whoever. This would be even greater for the ppl who REALLY get into it :)

Anyway, I want a REAL mmorts. Why doesn't someone just buy a RTS game's engine and work up from there?

I think alot of developers are hindered on creating a mmorts because its hard to keep the world persistent.

AI would have to be awfully intelligent to defend your empire when you are away. Otherwise if someone came to your turf to attack and if it was greyed out theyd be pretty pissed.
