can i start on ps2, then switch to pc with my same account?

I have FFXI for PS2, but stopped playing last year. I want to start up again, but would rather do it on PC since I'm more of a PC gamer now. However, I have a problem with my computer where it shuts down at random which I'm trying to sort out with Dell now and I also can't afford to buy a PC copy of the game right now. So could I start up again on PS2, then when I fix my computer and get the money, buy a PC copy and start playing with my same account?

Yep thats exactly what I did. I had it on PS2 last year, and I recently bought the $20 dollar version for the PC. Now I can interchange between the pC and the PS2. Although, I was highly expecting an amazing experience playing on the PC, surprisingly you can find me in front of the T.V. using the PS2 almost always.

Im also thinking of joining the FFXI game, is the game the same on the PS2 as the computer, or are they different? Also do you half to buy the keyboard and mouse for the PS2 to play this game?

It's exactly the same game. The PC will render it in higher resolution, but it's the same game, with PC people and PS2 playing on the same servers. Technically, you don't *have* to buy a keyboard or a mouse for the PS2 version. But while a mouse is truly not necessary (although occassionally handy), you really are going to need a keyboard; it's almost impossible to communicate with the other players without one. However, it's a standard USB interface. Any computer USB keyboard will do fine (as will any USB mouse, if you decide to use one).

It occurs to me that you are thinking about buying the PS2 version, in which case, you need to know:

FFXI FOR THE PS2 DOES NOT WORK ON THE NEW SLIMLINE PS2S.

The game comes with an installable hard disk drive that is required for the game, but the HDD *cannot* be installed in a slimline PS2; the bay you would need to insert it into is not there.

Don't bother spending an additional $20 on the PC version if you pick up the PS2 version first. Just borrow the CD's from a friend - your purchased account information is ALL you need to log onto the game, regardless of the version.

yes, but keep in mind that the game has 3 versions, japanese, american and european and even if you can create a account on a PC version of the game with a serial that came with the PS2 version, both of them still need to be from the same "region" since the japanese, american and european's POL servers on which you input the serial to create the account are on different servers, thus every POL being different from the other.. but since I guess you guys are all american, you wont have that prob ^_^U Im european and I have a US version of game and now I wished to play my char on PS2 sometimes but nowhere to get the US version of game.. bah maybe I'll wait for xbox360 FFXI but still same problem would persist..
