A few of th hatebois upon this forum have described the game akin to a MOD. but the turth is MOD's are overtaking modern games,
What on earth are you trying to say here man?
You make it sound like a MOD is a whole new game compared to the vanilla game. Do you know that the word MOD simply means a game modification? To even have a mod you will need a base game to work with, no one without the original game would be able to play its mod without having that game. If the mod is better than the game, then that is the particular game's fault for not being at its best to compare with fan made content. Also its pretty normal for some mods to rise far about its usual state due to popularity, like DotA, CS or hell even a tons of CS mods which have given rise to some of the current shooter concepts. Its nothing new since this has been happening from years back, its that you only now realised it with your M&B experience. But how could a "coder" like you err on so simple a concept as existence of game mods...?
The reason why the "hatebois" you speak of, compare MO to a MOD is not because of the truth you claim either: the turth is MOD's are overtaking modern games. Its compared to a mod because of the fact that a bunch of fanmodders for the UE3 got together and tried to put together a shoddy 3D replica of a previous game (UO) and went onto milk players with AAA prices for incompetent work. Its not praise when someone calls the original game, something that is hardly better than a MOD.
And like others have said, for a game that got the "balls" to include full frontal nudity in it, to botch it up to this proportion is inexplicable...Naked people are just butt fugly in MO, as if someone took great care to make them this ugly that they would be forced to rummage for rags each time they die. I have seen fanmods that contain better nude wireframes and wrappers. Moreover sometimes when transferring MOD data from builder to builder, in some cases a placeholder nudeframe is used that contains armour details for contour effects, pre-poly included dds highlighters and UV unwraps. Such "Placeholders" also are better detailed than the feature presentation that is nudity in MO...Without doubt, lack of talent is found in abundance at SV.

Well like i said, often the mod's created for these fully fledged games have more lasting appeal and more longevity than the games they were originally modded from.
MO is obviously not a mod since it was created using the unreal engine and not modified from an existing unreal game. You could possibly call it a TC but again what would it of been converted from? But MO does have some similarities with a MOD interms of creativity and inovation which in my opinion is why i played MO and not some AA title from one of the major mmo developers.
i would claim its more to do with a lack of experience, time and funds as opposed to talent what such a small team of first time developers have created is quite impressive IMO. Most of these Modders turned developers simply recreate their existing mod which they already spent a hell of a long time working on into a fully fledged game. A much simpler task i imagine than trying to develop an MMO with first time software like GROME and ATLAS with such a small team of inexperienced developers.
CCP were smart they developed a game that was perfect for a first time developer. MO is a project even experienced developrs would not attempt. Take archeage theres 100 developers working on that game and even archeage palys it relatively safe in many of its designs. SV took alot of risks, made alot of mistakes because of their ambition and imagination alot of the stuff they have created now needs further rivising such as dark nights, 8 different armor slots combined with the crafting system, etc to make it work as the players would like. But i appluad them for either having the balls or stupidity for taking on a task like MO, either way it can only be a good thing for PC gamers because it offers something wildly different to what most mmo players are used to and variety is much better imo.
Also imo some of my favorite gameplay experiences have come from MODs, such as NS, Specialists, the opera, zombie panic, Qtank, Painkeep, Team fortress, counterstrike, Darkest Hour, red orchestra, renegade and many many more. I would of gladly paid some of those modders as a thankyou for developing a game that i played the hell out of.
there are 2 types of mmo, imitators and innovaters.
To the OP, i understand exactly what your saying, MO certainly isnt for you if bugs and a clumsy ui are enoguh to put you off playing a game. MO has both and nobody can really argue otherwise. Everyone is different and games are made to appeal to certain people. Prehaps once MO has spent more time existing and with more fixes and improvements returning to the game might pursuade you otherwise. However MO is MO and its main core principles direction and combat mechanics are what makes it a game currently being played by its fans. Theres no other game really like MO and the players who enjoy it for what it is do not want those aspects of the game changed, improved yes but not changed.
Im not saying sandbox mmos arent for you, but MO certainly doesnt seem like the game for you if its whole combat system is enough to keep you from palying the game.
I agree, MO isnt for me. I wish they would simply improve some of the basic mechanics to make it more entertaining. I love full looting, death consequences, and open pvp. But getting to that core is a chore. And theres quite a lot of visual problems which make it ugly as well, bad animations, things floating in the air, no apparenty phsycial interaction with anything. Immersivity is big for me, and I dont feel it here. Im also a big crafter, and that was a nightmare to figure out. My 5th time wasting a bunch of coal in the furnace with no apparent reason beyond "you dont know how to do this, all your mats are mine now', AFTER hours trying to figure out how to do something so basic caused me to quit.
Again, Im not trying to offend MO fans. If you like it, keep it. This is just my viewpoint. Its not how I would design a game for myself.
