I heard this on the internets but I'm too lazy to look it up. Is it true?
Also, is this satirical writing subtley shedding light on the people who make posts like this in an effort to derail the legitimate excitement amassed regarding this game by distorting the truth to favor a negative position?

Its funny because there will be people who blow through and no life the game to an extent where they feel its an accomplishment to have done everything so quick, yet they really just have no lives.

Expend our RL time???? oh rly???? I havent notice it...
or by distorting the truth to favor a positive position?
I mean cash shops were evil until Anet did it.
[mod edit]
If you've got to explain your satire to people, you probably aren't doing it right. Lame attempt.
No distortion here. You actually spend real time playing the game. There's no way getting around that fact.
It's physics.
Re: SWTOR
"Remember, remember - Kakk says 'December.'"
The nerve of these companies these days. Wanting our money AND our time, it's getting ridiculous! XD
Play for fun. Play to win. Play for perfection. Play with friends. Play in another world. Why do you play?
...Thankfully, it's increasingly looking like I will be able to make up for my limited amount of available time, with my (relatively) non-limited funds !
OP, the growth of your sense of humor has a long way to go.
Not all cash shops are evil. World of Tanks shop is fine imo, the multimillions they rake in monthly seems to testify against you.
Play for fun. Play to win. Play for perfection. Play with friends. Play in another world. Why do you play?
p2p- people seem ok with vanity only shops
f2p- people seem ok with full blown cash shops (seeing as f2p is doing so well)
b2p- people can't seem to grasp why it should fall someone in the middle of the other 2(which is where it seems to be to me)
League of Legends would like a word with you. (most poplular game in the world) Cheers!
I think the philosophy is something like this:
We accepted cash shops in f2p games because they were free. The developer had the right to earn money somehow for the game, so it seemed fair. Sadly, most early f2p games were HEAVILY p2w by anyone's definition, and that left a terrible taste in our mouths.
Now these same players are hearing cash shop and seeing p2w..but not only do they have to contend with that, but a 60 dollar price tag just to get the game? They scoff, saying the box sales alone OR the cash shop alone should justify cost, but not both.
My rebuttal is this: Look at most true f2p games. Also, for a moment, sit aside any current f2p game that initally had a box price (AoC, Champions, LOTRO, DDO...) since thery already earned all the box sales the developer thinks they can. Look at games like Silkroad, Conquer...hell pretty much anything by Aeria or NetDevil or any of those. Look at the amount of content, quality of gameplay, and originality of world. Then compare to how much GW2 is offering. GW2 is proving a lot more than pretty much any f2p mmo I can think of out the box, and (hopefully) will continue to expand on and develop content as days go by like any other MMO. Let's face it, most f2p titles don't fit the AAA+ moniker, but GW2 is trying to do just that. So it has a box price, is f2p, and has a cash shop. From that perspective it makes sense. Higher quality means more income needed. So, they either:
1) Do the standard box price+sub model.
2) Eliminate the box price, go f2p with a much expanded and more expensive (and probably much worse balanced) cash shop.
The question is whether the game's value will be worth even the 60, much less the 60+whatever you as a player choose to spend in cash on the game after. For 60+not a damn thing, what I'm seeing so far tells me yes. Whether that will play out, we'll see as more information behind how Anet plans to continue developing the game unveils itself.
ummm, let me tell you something
ok, you spend REAL TIME!!! In ALL GAMES!!! So why are you mad you have to spend REAL TIME!!! in THIS REDICULOUSLY AWESOME GAME!?!?!?!?
This is a joke of a thread
April fools?
Oh forgot the
For every minute you are angry , you lose 60 seconds of happiness."-Emerson
I heard Anet sells time in their cash shop. Actually...you can buy so much with gems, that you get younger. Seriously.
What I love about this thread is that there are people trying to have a serious discussion...=)
It's true, OP. You will have to spend time playing this game. But we'll have to commend them on their efforts to keep it to a minimum.
Badum-tish!
My brand new bloggity blog.
Well now I don't want to play the game anymore. I mean, how could Arenanet possibly think that I would want to spend MY time on THEIR product. This is total bulltrout and I will have no part in it.
HAHA! Serves you right! I told you fools this fail game was fail. It's going to flop before the first month!
I think you, I and maybe 2 other people in this thread got that this was an April Fool's joke. I love GW2 and all, but some of the people on here really need to lighten up. GW2 will stand on it's own feet and doesn't need their misplaced self-righteousness defending it from invisible attackers ^^. And again, I'm 99% sure this was an April Fool's joke.
OP tried to make a joke.
He failed.
Thread was born.
Don't try to be funny anymore please. Thanks
Nothing to worry about if you use the cash shop you can win without even playing! It's going to re define 'playing' games.....literaly.
What the OP was trying to get across was the fact that there has been an increase in number of threads started by ill-informed people.
The number of people posting threads such as "OMGZ NO MOUNTS" or "CASH SHOP WILL BE OP" when if they did about 30 seconds of research they could have figured out the reasons and how balanced it is with the decisions A-Net are making. Instead these individuals would rather be spoon feed the answers by other members of the forums and thus flooding the forums with duplicate posts that no offense meant, are kinda noobish. Rather than looking at one of the earlier posts regarding that same issue and posting in there or (whatever diety you believe in, if you do, forbid) actually read the posts.
Another part is the fact that people are never satisfied. People keep begging for more and more, but if you look at the game, it is already really well done. But, people will always find one or two things that they don't like about it and rant and rave about it as if it is the most important thing EVER. My simple message to those few that have this issue, simply don't play and go back to whatever MMO you find 'perfect' or if you want to play the game then just close your mouth or go post in one of the earlier threads. Now if there is a major flaw in the game, feel free to rant about that (i.e DLC from Day 1), but if it something like mounts, then don't.
I am sorry for ranting like this, but this seemed like a good thread to rant about this sort of stuff in.
Anyway to get back on topic.
OH NOES! We have to spend time to play the game! :O What next, do they expect us to have a computer to run it on aswell? I even hear rumors that they want us to have this thing called an 'internet connection' anyone know what that is?
darn that is a Beal-Dreaker for me.
OP is wrong anyway. In any halve decent mmo there are people offering all ingame service for money.
Who actually plays an mmo nowadays ? That is sooo old-fashioned. Just buy your leveling, skill usp, equipment services and have fun with something else please, No time needed at all.
