Hi Everyone. I am looking foward to pre-ordering this game and hopefully playing the release soon.
I really enjoy only healing classes (or healing/damage) and pet classes. Since in this game everyone can heal, tank or dps, I am inclinded to create a pet type class.
I have played life mage in AC, smite cleric and bonedancer in DAOC, shadowpriest and warlock in WoW.
Probably my favorite class was bonedancer in DAOC.
So....Necro?

Well Elementalist is probably your best bet as they, and Guardians, seem to have the most group orientated support/healing skills/utilities at the moment (according to the official wiki). Ele has heals when in their water attunement, they can have pets as well though.
You seem to be a magic person so I'm assuming Ranger isn't an option.
I have thought about Ranger. What does intrigue me about that class (would be similar to a hunter in Wow?) is that they will probably have the very longest range weapons and perhaps the best at plinking people from the safety of the crenellations in the towers and keeps?
I have always liked hitting people from afar, either with pet, spell or arrow/bullet. Never bring a knife to a gun fight my pappy always said.
Ranger, Elementalist, or Necro. All 3 could be fun for you so try each!
Bonedancer had lifetap if i recall right, same as warlock almost same as necro.
I guess necro is for you (or guardian or elementalist). But from your profile i think mostly necro suits you.
But dont worry you can play them all!!
ive played with the skill builder for several hours. If you do love to play healer , the guardian is by far the best option, he can be created useing almost all healing abilitys.
If you like ranger dont forget engineer. He is gonna have awsome support capabilities and complicated with many kits and gadgets(he dont have pet tho ^^). And yes ranger's longbow does more dmg if you are further.
Ranger doesn't seem to have much group based support, but all classes have some. They have a AoE heal as an option for their main heal skil (Healing Spring)... we'll have to wait and see how useful Healing Spring is for everyone else. The difference though is that a Ranger can only have 1 pet out at a time, whereas a Necro and Ele (I think?) can have more than one pet out at a time.
This game is so different though that I seriously suggest just trying every class when you get your hands on the game. The combat seems to be so different that your current tastes might not be valid, as they are based on previous mmos.
It has been ages since I leveled my Bonedancer to 50, but that was one mean class. IIRC I could have like 4 or 5 skeletons out, three of which could be healers. I played it early on in DAOC and it was very OP...sometimes I could take out 3 or 4 people in pvp. I know that isn't skill, but it sure felt fun at the time...probably not so much fun for the other classes.
From some of the vids, I see necro can have at least 2 pets out, and one of them has some healing abilities.
From interviews I've seen, attempting to build any of the holy trinity in GW2 is probably a no no. It's been tested, and doesn't work well, which is the way Anet wants it. As I recall, if you attempt a healer for instance, you're basically no more than a squishy inefectual dieing machine. I think it's possible to build toward support, but, you have to keep some balance, which may have been more what you're suggesting.
5 pets out at the same time and i heard something for a trait that allows you more. You can also teleport at one of your pets and its the only class that i know so far that has aoe fear.
Necro is the only fear class?
Sold! For the first 6 months of any game, fear is the most hated and ranted skill of any char. My warlock in vanilla WoW actually got in game hate mail.
:-)
(Evil grin forming)
Yes, a traited (at least 10 points into Marksman currently) longbow has the best range of any of the weapons it seems. They have a lot of means of keeping enemies back too, even their melee focused weapons have ways to keep distance from your opponent for a quick swap out to a ranged weapon.
They also have a lot of support skills. I feel they are in the middle ground of support for professions (below Engineer, Elementalist, and Guardian, but far above the others) as many pets provide some AoE support in one form or another. They have the following support skills:
1. AoE heal that also removes conditions.
2. Fury, Might, and Swiftness buffs from warhorn.
3. Pets can provide just about any type of boon to allies. Some pets traited can even provide two boons.
4. Some pets can heal others (Moas).
5. Spirit skills, which grant a chance to trigger boons while active. These work like static pets (think WoW totems), though they can be traited to move with you.
6. Pet can pull nearby conditions on allies to it through a skill.
7. Another skill let's your pet revive nearby allies.
8. An elite spirit skill which heals, removes conditions from allies, and revives allies.
9. Traited can remove conditions from nearby allies on dodge rolls. They can also dodge roll more frequently than other professions with lots of traits that boost endurance charge rate and skills that grant Vigor.
10. Good amount of combo starters (traps) and finishers. EX: You can use Healing Spring and shoot through or in it to gain healing on your arrows. Your allies can also shoot through it (for example a pistol thief) to gain additional healing on their attacks as well.
They also have a lot of "control" oriented skills, though much of their control is lighter than other professions (they lack "hard" CC like the Necro or Thief) I'd probably put them in either 3rd or 4th in terms of control.
Ive kindve decided to make a character and name it "MobileArmory". An elementalist that summons all the elemental weapons.
Necro seems to cater to your casting style, and also has a ton of pets if you spec it so. Check out this yogscast video to see a pet-specced necro in WvW: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pk06sCaB0l4&list=PL3F7E82F16AF977E3&index=6&feature=plpp_video
He also discusses his necro spec and abilities a little bit at the beginning of this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lGHlH2E9teg&list=UUH-_hzb2ILSCo9ftVSnrCIQ&index=1&feature=plcp
While all this is true, OP should note that you will not be able to do 'all' these things in a single fight. It all depends how the traits are set up, which weapons you have equipped for the current fight, which utility skills you have chosen and which pets you have chosen.
Yeah, this is the main reason I rate them lower than the Engineer, Guardian, and Elementalist who can simply do more support in any given toolset (Engineers due to toolkits, Elementalist with attunement swapping, and Guardian with their virtues). You can definitely build a Ranger around complete support or you can build them partial support without losing too much damage or control by going with a support oriented pet.
Based on what the OP wants I think they would make a great pick. They actually have a lot of group healing, beaten out only by Elementalist and Guardian (I don't think Engineer has nearly as much) and you don't lose too much taking it. Other possible picks for the OP include the Elementalist and Necro. The Necro is really bad at support (most of their healing is self oriented), but has a lot of control effects to make it up for it and probably the second best pets in the game. The Elementalist isn't really a pet class, though they can summon elementals for a short period of time, but they have very nice "kiting" ability and healing.
Well I just now watched some of the Yog video clips and am fairly impressed with the survivability of the Necro. The WvW pvp clip has the necro doing decent damage and shows off some of the neat abilities like teleport to your pet (it took 6 years for my WoW warlock to get a teleport spell).
I will probably level my main as Necro and an alt Ele or Guardian...and see which one I am better at in pvp and pve.
Thanks for the info...my excitement to play is definately building.
friend: You're actually good at gaming...
He: No, but i actually leveled this character, so i know what i am doing
EPIC!!!!!
The video really shows why the game will be that good....
I think the OP would really enjoy a GW2 Necromancer

Warrior's have Fear too!
Good ole dependable guardian for me.
I love that video. Necromancer don't care, Necromancer don't give a s***!
LOL
thank you for posting this.. I was about to school Vannor and you beat me to it =D
http://gw2.luna-atra.fr/skills_tool/ has MOST of the pets skills available to look at, just choose ranger and select the paw on the left... also dont forget to change the language to w/e is easiest for ya =D
to the OP I don't know enough about necros to know if they are complete in the tool, I hear that many profs are not but the ranger is pretty good.
Guardian for me. I hope they aren't too squishy. I think games should make a bigger deal out of the "Monk" class. With good animations. Twirling Staffs up side the head.
Ballerinas are always on their toes. Why don't they just get taller ballerinas?
I am pretty sure no prof can do all those things in a single fight. Rangers have 2 pets they can swap out for double CC or double buffs or w/e is needed. The pets do not share a CD, just like weapons. Most rangers in PVE at least will have a warhorn set up for buffs, spirits on the bar, the pet revive skill and I think at this point most PVE rangers will have the healing elite. Bottom line, rangers have plenty of support and just as other profs it depends on how you set up your bar and what traits you choose.
Well personally i think the bonedancer was an awesome class (tough it could be easilly countered, by someone that knew how to) it was the personification at that time of what i expected Necromancers to be. Masters of minions, lifetaps and AoE's.
If you really loved bonedancer, Necromancers might be a nice choice for you...
