Lefties

Hey Leftie Population(I hope its not just me),

Disclaimer: True lefties, not those that call themselves lefties but yet use the mouse with their right hand....

So, I was wondering what is your usual MMO setup as a leftie. I got into the habit of using the arrow keys and numberpads. This works great in many MMO's since usually you cannot move and cast at the same time. I got pretty damn fast at switching between arrows and numberpad and using the Mouse for camera controls. But now, with new MMO's focusing more on movement in combat I am in a bit of a dilema.

Should I go full numberpad? both hands in the keyboard? get a controller? become a clicker image? get a leftie razon naga(snap, this doesn't exist yet..)? So I was wondering, what do you all of you lefties out there do today or are planning on doing in the future??

I use a 2 buttons + wheel mouse.  I move my keyboard to the right and align my right hand with WASD. I use the same keys as right handers.  That way, i'm close to the 1-0 keys.

    Disclaimer:Not a leftie but I know lefties.

Consider a gamepad for your right hand that has a good cluster of macroable buttons.

Of course, be careful of gamepads that are used in the left hand like the razer nosdormo....and of course, if you don't already, practice responsible mouse turning at all times. ;)

Leftie, but PC righty. I always used a PC right handed since I was ....when windows 3.1 came out. Now I am starting to feel old. Thanks for making me think that far back.  But anyway, I dont think they had an option for changing mice to left handed in the options menu. Needless to say thats how I learned to use a PC with mouse and it has always stuck with me. I think you are probably one of the few who turn the mouse settings for left handers.

WASD and razor naga are my friends.

Ahh yes, thought about that one also. I would give it a try, not sure how far I would get with it though.

You should be ashamed of yourselves.  Not only are left handed gaming mice obsurd they are also un-American.  I'll help you out though, there exists a community of left handed mouse gamers.......they live in the caves between Pakistan and Afghanistan.

Damn you!!!! lol I don't believe I should change my lefthandness because almost everything is made for righties. Feels like in the old days where teachers forced students to write with their right hands. I believe, even though I have absolutely no evidence, that if you are born left handed you will always do things better with your left hand. Even if you train yourself to be righty.

  • I mouse with my left hand (though the mouse is still configured as a right hand mouse).  I use arrow keys and in some games click and in others map my numpad.   Thankfully this setup works fine in many games including GW1 (haven't personally tried GW2 but I'm trusting that they didn't change things that drastically).

If you are a true left hander (want the mouse configured as a left hand mouse) check out:  http://store.razerzone.com/store/razerusa/en_US/pd/productID.182251700/categoryId.35208800

It has a few extra buttons and is specifically designed for true left handers.  Unfortunately this mouse won't work for me as it is truly configured as left hand (the buttons work the opposite of right hand mice).

I've also looked at several of the ambidextrous mice out there, still debating on which one is best.

For folks wondering why I mouse with my left hand - I only do that after work, I mouse with my right hand at work and it was killing my wrist to then come home and game.  With some practice I've got it so I'm ambdimoused:)

Actually I find the "left vs right click" to be irrelevant to leftties. I use them as the default config. If you think about it there is nothing gained from changing those. Your index finger is literally right there lol and your middle finger is not a "dumb" finger.

BTW I do love the ergo designed lefty mouse, very comfortable image

I use the left handed Razer Deathadder and the fang key pad listed above.  The keypad helps but still doesnt compare to what our right handed counter parts have to choose from.  Oh well.

  • therez0therez0 Member Posts: 379

The Fang gamepad listed above is excellent. I've had mine for going on eight years now. The keys are still as firm and responsive as the day I bought it, and only one decal/label has any sign of wear.

I'm true ambidex (not leftie; sorry for barging in on the private party), so being able to swap hands at will is a great. I imagine it would work just as well being stationary.

    This

And the OP needs to cool it with that "fake lefties" bullcrap.  If I still write, eat, and fap with it, then I'm a real lefty.  A lefy who's comfortable in his leftiness knows that the right hand is only getting the menial task of rotating the camera while the left hand is on the Game Pad and doing all the dodging, Skill combos, AND macro-swaps ....like a BAWSS.

Strangely enough, I'm right-handed, and actually trained myself to game almost completely with my left hand in order to use my merc board, which has all the main number keys in a nice cluster on the left hand side of the keyboard.  I use all of those with my left hand to fire off abilities and strafe left/right, while using my right hand for my programable mouse for other abilities + mouse-turning and running.

I can recomend the Fang. It's almost the same layout as the Merc keyboard which is the best gaming keyboard i've ever had. The buttonlayout is brilliant and you can instantly feel where you are with your fingers without ever having to look. Of course most people learn to do that on any keyboard eventually, but this one makes it easier and gives less margin for error since the keys feel different. Some keys curve down a bit, and others curve up. Look at R and F for example. When your finger is scouting that area there's no doubt which one is which, and it gives your brain more points of reference to map out the remaining keys. Same with the unique WSAD design/layout.

I feel like a salesman here, but it's just that good.

Granted i haven't tried that specific model, but it should feel more or less the same as the old Z-Board (and i've used them since the first version). The SteelSeries Merc replaced the Z-Board and it's a shame they didn't re-make these pads as well since the new models of the keyboard have bling-bling-backlight and rubber coating on the buttons.

    Good luck!

I'm ambidextrous but favor my left hand. I find it's much easier to use a regular mouse with default settings and use my middle finger to left click and index finger to right click.

I always keybind the number pad to move just like WASD + Strafe + Jump keys and have several left over for binding anything I use most commonly from the hotbar. If I need a few extra bindings I'll also bind the arrow keys along with Page Up, Page Down, Home and End.

If a game doesn't allow keybinding the movements keys, I refuse to play it. I have unistalled more than 1 beta because they haven't implemented keybinding movement keys in that phase of beta.

Left handed keyboard, and dont use a mouse molded to a right hander? Sure that rules out Razer mice but in GW2 at least you wont need the 9 trillion buttons it offers.

  • dubyahitedubyahite Member UncommonPosts: 2,483
Ambidextrious here. Favor left hand a lot.

I usually take all of the movement keybinds and put them on my mouse in MMOs. I strafe with my side buttons and move with holding down right+left click to walk forward and turn.

I usually just put all of my abilities on letter keys on the right side of the keyboard if I play left handed.

This makes movement really easy for me and abilities super easy to reach.

That beig said, I can't playshooters left handed. I suck at aiming left handed for some reason. I think it goes back to my youth playing doom an quake and stuff. I didn't even know I could do it left handed.

I prefer to PvP in MMOs left handed but it is a huge hassle switching back and forth.

It's because of the radical rightist agenda in this world.

They beat us into submission when we are young.

To this day I cannot use left-handed scissors properly! Some day we will rise up against the righties and demand equality!! We are a patient bunch. We can wait. Soon the left handed revolution will come and we'll see how you guys like it when all the scissors in the world are left handed! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAGHGGGGAGAAGAGAGA!!!!!111

Tip: If you have problems with the wrist that means you are doing something you shouldn't.

Stop doing that and have your job get a you a trackball instead (or a perific mouse). You could get permanent problems if you don't do something, and saving 40 bucks is not a good reason for that.

Logitech Trackman, you steer it with your thumb and rest the wrist (leftie version exist). it is faster than a mose as well. :)

Perific mouse. This sweet thing can be used as a regular mouse, as a 2 hand controler or as a one hand trackball. With some training you can steer both as a regular mouse and with the thumb at the same time to get super speed.

The thing is that trackballs also give you more control and improved my PvP since they are faster. :)

I'm left-handed and do everything with my left hand, accept using a mouse. I've been playing with my mouse all my life in the right hand and honestly, it's perfect for me. It's just a matter of habit. My brother frequently asked me why don't I use my left hand when I'm playing, but I never really felt the need. We left handed people are a minority, so it's certainly not easy. However, it's up to you if you are going to adapt to what already exists and make the best of it, or create new ways to achieve your goals.

Also, GW2 won't have left handed characters :(
