i really hope they make crafting, actually more viable and useful than what it is , right now.
currently makes very little sense. the prices for basic matts, ingredients are just way too overpriced. so by the time you can make something half decent, is too late . since you probably have a much better item from quest rewards alone.
leveling crafting is also a pain and way too much a money sink, with very little purpose , and usefullness to it.
at this moment, crafting is a waste of time and money, since you would go broke by the time you can make something half decent.

Apparently endgame crafting with the 60 update in Korea now provides the best gear in the game.
Also low level crafting is really odd, because people don't know the prices of things in BETA and as you level in TERA money drastically rises like crazy. I mean at level 20 you might have 70k gold but at 60 youll have 600m.
i have a level 34 character with about 500k!p so i decided to give the crafting a try.
now she only has 10k lol and only managed to raise armorer skill to 50.
It really is expensive, I don't think it helps most people don't know how to set prices, also maybe with the new currency things will change. Although, I have got 4.8m on my 38 so i'm not complaining, but that's because I did manage to sell a gold lance for 3m lol. xD
Only time will tell I guess, and hopefully it gets made to be more useful and in-depth.
haha, yea I loled at crafting.
Its very much like Aion's crafting... however what they say is right.
They could probably tweak the prices and yea, after wiping out on money doing crafting, litereally a few hours later I was loaded with cash again.
also I liked that you got buffs when harvesting, so at the end of the day it had tons of materials that actually I probably wouldnt use.
so i'll not make too much fuss about the crafting until ive had chance to level it up more.
The problem with crafting in the beta is that it requires materials that drop from BAMs, and nobody is really good at killing them. Other than the BAM material crafting is very cheap and easy to get the rest of the mats. If you brought all the materials from the AH obviously you are going to go broke very quickly. But if you farm the nodes, and disenchant gear drops you should be able to get all the items you need for your craft relatively quickly.
Unlike other MMOs you don't need to physically craft armor to level up, you can skil up to about Lv. 300 easily by just crafting metal bars that are used for armor. You can even make a profit selling these crafted bars and leathers back in the AH for lazy people that want to power level their craft. So crafting does essentially what you need it to do which is turn all the junk you find questing into cash.
In terms of the perfect craft that you can use while leveling up, I strongly recommend Alchemy. It has a ton of consumables that players can use in and out of combat to greatly reduce downtime while leveling.
I do like the fact everyone can craft and collect everything. It sounds like pricing needs a tweak but if one wants to be just a crafted and has a mind for business I'm sure they could be successful. I like that gameplay flexibility.
Just not worth my time anymore.
as of K-Tera everything made from crafting is BoE. But En Masse did say that they were changing a lot of BoE gear to BoP for the west which is really smart. From the interview they only mentioned BAM drops becoming BoP so if you want end game crafted gear to be BoP as well, I would voice your feedback on their official forums.

They are apparently listening to user feedback and actually making changes to Western Tera at a considerable pace despite to the fact that almost all their developers are in Korea.
Crafting as it is right now is really not worth it at low level due to the cost and time to craft something that is really no better than a dropped item and to add to the fact that you will not be using the item for every long. Perhaps at higher levels it might be more beneficial do to the higher base damage and extra stats crafted items get.

If crafting is anything like Aion's, you'd want dedicated crafters for the guild. It's a lot more cost effective to have everyone pitch in to get the crafter's skill ranking up and then reap the benefits.
It does need improvements, although the news of tweaks/rebalancing in K-Tera at least give me a little hope. At this time I harbour some optimism that as crafted gear becomes relevant, not only will crafting become more attractive, but so will open-world hunting for the needed mats.
A Modest Proposal for MMORPGs:
That the means of progression would not be mutually exclusive from the means of enjoyment.
I understand the frustration people have with crafting. I would agree that gear crafting is more of an endgame thing. There's nothing really wrong with it, if you want to level up crafting to max while you're leveling you can do that pretty much for free. As long as you are mining the nodes which you should be doing anyway because they give you nice buffs and exp, you don't have to spend a single dime leveling it up to max. You just skill up your craft on metal bars, and then AH the bars, or put them in the guild bank for later use.
The problem comes mainly with the crafted gear, which is definitely has comparable or better stats next to the questing equivalents. The issue comes from the prices of the mats themselves, especially the BAM drops. I don't think there's anyway to fix that without making grinding lower level BAMs completely worthless. You're just exchanging one form of progression for another.
Another thing about crafting in Tera is that it's possible to level up all the crafts on one character. Usually in other MMOs you had specificalize in 1 or 2 crafts, and you got extra benefits to your character for specializing. In Tera since you don't need to specialize, you don't get and specialized benefits outside of the convenience of turning junk into useful stuff.
It's a slippery slope between making crafting worthless or crafting becomes mandatory for everybody. I do agree that crafting can be refined to be more useful while leveling up, but the way it's implemented now is far from broken. Now if you want to talk about completely worthless crafting, I have a bunch of Rift stories I can tell you about.
