Why Will You Play Tera?

drakes821drakes821 Member UncommonPosts: 535

Just curious why you are going to play Tera.* What makes you want to play it over a multitude of other MMO's out when it doesn't boast "20 new revolutionary features" like some games claim?

For me my main attraction is the combat, it just makes everything from PvP to PvE better. I also like the graphics (though I'm not a fan of all the anime characters) and the world design. To me the world just feels more open than other themepark MMO's and I feel like I can actually find cool stuff off the beaten path. It's hard to put my finger on it but the game does just enough to feel refreshing compared to other MMO's.

*Yes I am assuming people replying will be playing the game. If your not going to play feel free to still post but please try to keep it on topic.

I am curious about a few things.

I was in the last weekend Beta and the game is nice to look at. The quests were nothing more than fetch x of y and kill a of b, but I didn't get much past level 10 or so. Do the quests start to vary after the starter area?

As for the combat, I tried archer and it was pew-pew-pew-[right-click] - pew until mob is dead. I also could not move whenever attacking. Does the combat get more varied later?

    Thanks in advance.

Firstly, I just love open world pvp, the grind, the combat system, the graphics, the world/dungeons, the political system (Vanarch's).

The polished game (since its been out for a year in Korea), no bleeding-edge. It actually has fun end game content.

BHS will continue to update the game as if patches are expansion packs.

Im sure theres more not thinking of. Tera will be amazing, end of story.

@Fargol: The quests aren't that great it's mostly kill this or find that. But questing is only the beginning, the game doesnt start till about level 35, for me it was at lv 41, you get to do dungeons, fight BAMs.

You think the graphics are good pre level 10, wait till you get to the western region and the Elven city. Beautiful.

I would have maybe tried it but since GW2 is right around the corner I won't even bother purchasing it.

Grim Dawn, the next great action rpg!

I will be playing TERA for the world pvp and the combat system.  The graphics are great but a lot of games have good graphics.   I just loved the combat system though, it is how AoC should have been.  GW2 doesn't have real open world pvp, I don't think that WvWvW is going to cut it for me.  The quests in TERA are crap, just like they are crap in all other MMORPG's, including SWTOR and GW2's dynamic events.  The TERA quests are the same old kill ten wolves ect.  SWTOR was kill 10 wolves with voice acting.  GW2 is kill ten wolves with a dynamic event bar at the top of the screen.    It's important to note that the newbie experience in TERA is really bad because it is way too easy, it's one of those games you need to get to 20+ before it becomes decent.

I don't know, it just captivates me, the graphics, animations, effects, and combat, they all seem to gravitate towards what I expect from an MMO, I can't really play anything else now without being let down in one of these regards... TERA in my opinion out performs.

It's the combat, the open world pvp and the style of the world.

As far as the combat is concerned, it's the first time in an mmo that I literally did not have to look down once at my keyboard and not only had my eyes glued to what was happening but felt that I could instantaneously decide on the fly what my next attack/defense would be.

I love fighting the BAM's, I love fighting the players and I love the huge open world.

It feels a little like lineage 2 (only a little but I'll take what I can get) but with a more forgiving economy.

It'll be out by end of summer, if we're lucky.

Depending on when GW2 releases, I might play it as something to tide me over until then.

I am interested to learn more about open world pvp. Could someone possibly clue me into the mechanics? Like what exactly is the incentive to owPvP over instanced BG's?

As the topic is "What reasons do people have to buy TERA"  and not any other topic (which seems like people already forgot) my reason is this.

I love the combat, the group aspect of it is simply something different.  It feels like the perfect blend of new school and old school, its the right formula for the game play style that I want.

    Its as simple as that.

I really like the Alternative advancement, I'm tired of talent trees, I really like how they did the armor types and weapon types, I really like how every class FEELS AND PLAYS differently.

These things are what really speak to me as a gamer.

As with many others, for me it is the combat. In any mmo, you spend an enormous amount of time in combat. In Tera, that time is fun, not just a chore.

    All die, so die well.

Without rehashing all of the aspects recently mentioned my personal reason for playing TERA is this: Options.

Options in leveling.  I can either overflow myself with quests, stick with the main quest and grind inbetween, run dungeons with a group or with that same group hunt overland BAMs.  Partial credit goes to EME and how they have tweaked the XP gains for NA.  You don't HAVE to do all or most of the quests to level.  Go hunting and enjoy combat that is not lock on 1,2,3 repetitive.

Options in play style.  The "adventurer" is obvious but if I want to be an artisan I can put my focus on gathering and crafting since I can gather and craft anything I want.  There are also options in marketing but I think EME is still working on those so I'm not sure how player stores/petshops will turn out.  I found the option to have your pet set up to buy things off other people facinating.  You can set them up almost anywhere and players could walk up just like a vendor and sell you the items you posted for the price you set.

Menu options.  I am amazed at how many systems are in TERA.  Next time you play go into UI mode and spend a few minutes searching through the menus.  Then there is the UI.  It's basic for a reason.  You can move, scale (seperate pieces or all at once)and orientate your whole interface any way you want.  Maybe at some point they'll add skins for flair but I've always liked "minimal" UIs personally.

As Laughing Man said, TERA brings some oldschool aspects to a new game and has gathered a lot of options seen over years from other MMOs.

Just not worth my time anymore.

The incentive for open world pvp in TERA is for tears extraction and crystal destruction since weapon and armor crystals can break on death and unlike BG's, open world pvp is fun.

I play TERA for many reasons, a few being:

    1. Graphics - Looks really great, especially on high-end systems. "Eye boner."

    2. Combat - Refreshing and requires a-bit of skill.

    3. Friends / Guild  :D
