ATI or Nvidia

Just another off topic discussion.

Well I used to think I was a nvidia guy, because of all the COOL things they had like shader model 3, and crap, and just cause it was meant to play bf2. a bunch of my friends are nvidia fan boys and convince me that ATI sucks, but I now think other wise. I have had a nvidia mx 420, 5700 and 6600, and a ATI 9600. My 420 worked good for its time, the 5700 didnt perform like I thought, and the 6600 over heated and fried. But it wasnt the GPU that fried, it was the RAM, the onboard video ram overheated and fried and before it fried, whenever it got hot, it chugged all my games like bf2 and performed at half what it should. my 9600 has been good, and my friend purchased a x600 for 30 bucks less than my 6600 and it plays bf2 exactly the same on mdeium settings. i would like to hear opinions or arguments for each company.

Its stupid to pick sides. Look at hardware reviews sites, find a card in your price range, and go with whatever performs best for your needs. Who cares if its ATI or Nvidia?

Nvidia - The way it's meant to be played.

ATI - The way it really plays.

You know what side i'm on ::::39::.

I bought the ATI Radeon X800 pro because it was the best card they had at future shop. I would have gotten Nvidia if they had the 6800GT but they didn't, and I dare say I am quite happy. The X800's visuals are beyond stunning and I will probably stick with ATI unless theres a decent savings on getting Nvidia.

I think gamers just stick with what worked, and whatever makes you happy makes me happy too.limage

My last two video cards have been ATI, but I got those for free. Personally I've always liked Nvidia more. Especially nowadays with the GeForce 7 series and SLI.

I stick with Nvidia because they have never failed me and I hear people have problems with ATI's drivers.

    Nvidia here :)

to all nvidia lovers, nvidia gets owned here, they sponsored the game and yet a card from ati with the same price beats it ??!!?? what now.  look at the second graph, and i know the article says there is no differnce to the naked eye, (even better owned 2 times, its sponsored by nvidia, yet ati runs the same), but the benchmarks show it all. (something is wrong with photobucket, so ill just post the link.)

and oh my gosh nvidia gets owned with every other game on that list

(dont worry, im not an ati fanboi, i also like nvidia i just hate the people who say stuff about it when in fact it probably makes better cards, and i havent had one problem with ati but i burned out 2 nvidia cards in one year, and i didnt even know what overclocking was or i wasnt even a hardcore gamer back then.) and i had no problem with the drivers yet.

    I'de say Nvidia.

The only reason is that i've used Nvidia cards my whole life and havent had 1 problem.

ATI cards i have never tried, but why would i when Nvidia has been great for me for so long.

My build: Sapphire Radeon HD 4850, Asus P5GC-MX/1333 Motherboard, 4gb G.SKILL DDR2 667MHz RAM, Core 2 Duo e7200 CPU, 250gb Western Digital SATA Harddrive, Windows Vista Home Basic 64-bit.

Uh where to begin. There are two ATI cards on that page. An X800 XL 512MB that is NOT cheaper than a 6800 GT, and an X800 XL 256MB that is actually only cheaper by $20-$30 if not the same in some cases. Also the 6800 GT was available before the X800 XL, but of course that point is moot now.

Those "tests" are so biased too. They just give what THEY THINK are the best settings. Look at charts that have raw frame rates. The X800 XL 256MB and 6800 GT are pretty close.

Also everytime this topic has come up, there have been ATI owners who agree that ATI's drivers are lacking at times. I can't say myself, but I have seen it enough times to keep me sticking with Nvidia.

Those cards are roughly a year old. Heres a link for the newer ones. Same website. [url=http://www.bit-tech.net/hardware/2005/08/11/bfgtech_xfx_7800gt/6.html]

Nvidia has improved extremely over the last year or so.

Your main RAM or the video cards RAM? If it was the video card, I hope you sent it back. Either way you probably need to install some fans on your computer if heat is a problem. Your processor may be overheating and under clocking itself (running slower) too. I know my P4 3.0C did before I bought an aftermarket heatsink.

Well I have stuck with Nvidia from my first true 3D card which was a GeForce2 16Mb, then I got another one and SLI'd them and was a god to my friends wit my badass 32MB twin processor setup image

Since then I have had almost every upgrade that has come out... until recently...

    When I diced my Geforce4 Ti 4200 128Mb in favour of a Radeon 9600Pro 256

Im REALLY happy with the Radeon, I cant afford like an X800 or a top Nvidia card so on balance this one seemed like the best buy under $100 and it kicks ass.. I play HL2 with everything cranked and it has doubled my ability to crank the grafix in EQ2 as well...

So for me... I have stopped being brand loyal basically... my next card may be another Nvidia... or it could be another ATI.... again I will shop around and see what offers the most bang for buck when Im ready to buy...

My Radeon 9550 is what I could afford and I am very happy. I get around 51 fps' from the stress test in Half-Life 2 but when I get more than 10 ppl on my screen firing at once then it starts to slow down and become a lil choppy. With the exception of the first time I got it working and went on a 18 hour gaming binge which made it really hot and the frames started skipping and becoming diff colors I havent had any problems. ATI for now but I want to get a 7800 GTX. I havent tried out Nvidia so Im not gonna bash or anything.

They are both incredible comanies, to ask me to choose is like asking me whether I want pepperoni or cheese pizza. Both are good, both fill me, but I will prolly buy the cheapest one image

WHat the Hell are you thinking !? If you didnt know dont buy Invidia Cards right from them. Buy it from a different manufacturer that uses the same chips but they make the board. It is cheaper. My friend bought a 256 DDR 240Mgz Radeon for 87$ and last time i checked it would cost you $150 from buying from ATI directly.

ok, i only remeber the prices on newegg, and an ati radeon x800 pro is just about the same as a nvidia 6800 gt if not less, your friend must have bought a shitty ass card. jaquar, i really dought those are biased, and did you check every other game, they put them on the highest, and there are 2 ati cards on there (wich both beat nvidia) becouse it shows there can be a card with the same ram, yet beat the other card. that post was to tell all the nvidia retards that there are other companies out there that are just as capable as nvidia, doesnt necessarily mean i voted ati.

Switch betwene ATI and NVIDIA everytime and drive your system completely insane with drivers!

  • SackynutSackynut Member Posts: 558

about the drivers, i do like the nvidia drivers, and theyre driver system. i go the nvidia website, click on my operating system, and bam! drivers. and the drivers are easy to use. on the other hand (and i dont know if im retarted or something) but i went to the ATI site to get the newest drivers for my 9600, and i couldnt find them. i tried the two drivers which seemed like they would be for my card, and one said that it couldnt install because i didnt have the right hardware, and the other wasnt even for a video card. so yeah...
