I am not sure I follow this. The defense for charging for a 4th character slot is to say you don't need more than 3?
If you don't need more than 3, why are they billing for a 4th? Since they are charging money for a 4th, Funcom must believe there is a demand or they wouldn't feel they could get money for it. Which brings me to my next question. While most games are offering 6-10 character slots, where the hell does FC get off thinking they can charge a Boxed Fee, a Sub Fee and open a cash shop (I am 100% certain you will have more slots for purchase here) for this?
This is the biggest load of crap yet!
The only reason anyone would want a 4th is for roleplaying. For the sake of the game you only need 3 characters, one for each faction. Each character can learn every skill so theres no reason to have more than 3 for gameplay purposes.
I think monthly fee + cash shop is taking the piss, and I hated when SoE did it, but character slots is the least of the issues when you dont need more than the allocated amount. It would only be a problem if you dont get given enough character slots to make one of each class, but as this game is classless that point is moot.
Which goes back to the question.
Why charge for a 4th? That's like trying to sell ice cubes to Eskimos then.
Either there is a demand or there isn't. Either way, FC charging for the 4th is crass.
Are they are holding out after charging a lot of money or they are milking for even more when there is a questionable value?
And even if just for RPing. Players have to pay extra for that option? To Roleplay? Really?
No matter how I look at this one, it benefits noone else other than Funcom.
Of course it's to make money, such options always are. Companies are in it to make money, money is the lifeblood of a company, without money it'll slowly die.
The difference with MMO's that have 6 to 8 slots is that those games have classes: if you want to play more classes you're gonna need those character slots. TSW doesn't have classes, your character can be healer, crowd controller, tank, damage dealer, utility guy, or any role and switch between them whenever you like, without having to create a new character with the desired class. You'd only need another character because you want to try out the other factions, not because you want to try out another class. So 3 characters should be alright for most players, if you want more, there's the additional character slots you can purchase.

Of course they're after more money, but the fact still remains that most people will have no use for more than 3 slots, and for the ppl that want more, buying one is worth it.
So I don't think i'm following your argument at all
My arguement is simple:
Why charge for a 4th slot if only 3 are ever neede?
Your argument is confusing:
They charge for a 4th slot because you only need 3.
So if I want a 4th, Why should I pay more than a box and a sub?
A few red flags have been triggered by this recent annoucnement of life time subs.
1. The game currently does not have any beta at the moment, beta invites go out sometime this month but the game launches on June 19th. Seems like a very short beta and not enough time to correct the issues that are identified in beta.
2. The lifetime sub being thrown out before a beta and at a cost just a hair above the one year price.
3. The current gameplay videos look clunky. I understand some may be older but you would think that right before an annoucement for pre-orders you would release some of your best videos to entice people into buying.
4. The cash shop is being built in from the start with pets and inventory space leading me to believe that F2P is a viable option that FunCom has as a backup plan after the inital launch.
I was really excited about this one and was thinking of grabbing the life time sub but now I am seriously rethinking it.
Almost all mmos make you pay for extra character slots I don't get what's all the fuss on this game only.
What AAA does that?
DC universe, Final Fantasy 11/13, Lotro etc etc
You can say they are not AAA but if we have to base what mmo is AAA by opinions we could stay here for a lot of time.
Well DCUO and Lotro are FREE TO PLAY so it kind of makes sense to charge people for character slots. Many free to play games do this. FFXI and FFXIV charage you a monthly fee to basically 'rent' a character slot.
Most pay to play MMO's I have played do not charge for character slots. Just my experience.
EA doesn't own Funcom like they do Mythic and BioWare, and SWTOR doesn't have a cash shop or a lifetime sub, despite having to fork over big time $$$ to Lucas Arts in royalties.. EA has enough of its' own issues without blaming Funcom's cash grabbing on them.

Yeah, All EA is doing is managing the boxed sales. FC still calls all the other shots.
Success or failure, this one is all on Funcom. You can't blame EA for anything with TSW.
Holy C&@€ batman. Gw2 fanboys always gonna hate. Be it Tera, tsw etc etc. Its PAX weekend lots of footage, previews, interviews and user reviews after testing this game. So relax haters;)
I d be more worried about end game content in gw2. And yes i ll be playin gw2 as well for My pvp fix and tsw for pve.
hun I was TSW fan first, I signed up for beta 2 years ago.. GW2 I only heard about 7-8 months ago. The game is CRAP right now and there is no way possible for them to fix enough to make it ready and worth playing by June. Also whats really funny is while waiting for more info on TSW I was really excited for SWTOR.. let down.. then Tera... let down.. played TSW... let down! At least GW2 there is tons of footage for me to see that even though I haven't played it yet I can determine that it is better than the other three by far.
I'm not in the beta, have only been following the game moderately, and *I* knew that. It's common knowledge and doesn't prove you are in the beta.
Don't get me wrong, I have serious reservations about this game. After all, they didn't learn much about launching MMOs the 7 years between AO's launch and AoC's. If I don't like what I see on those beta weekends, I'll just cancel my preorder...assuming they actually ever let me preorder the game.
The three character slots only, the three quest limit, etc...
Some of these limitations are turnoffs for me. Then I saw their pricing structure. It comes across as a moneygrab to me.
Also, anytime a game offers a lifetime sub. it ends up a free to play title. To me when a company offers a $200 lifetime sub they're just trying to get as much as they can as fast because they know it will be a free to play title before long.
I now look forward to trying the f2p release of TSW.
Yea I am very concerned as well. TSW is going to be so good it's going to make all the other games out there look like the crap they are. Which of course will have the result of causing all the Trolls to come running with thier lies and other nasty BS.
and find a quest you have to DROP your current quest to take it?
I knew you could only have one quest of each type at a time, so yes... anything else?
Yeah, actually I thought I heard something about that, but what exactly does it mean...quest of each type?
I do think a 3 quest limit sounds pretty fail. IIRC AoC's limit was 25 and that wasn't enough. I guess either there aren't a whole lot of quests and this is a themepark without the park, or it's soooooo linear that you literally go from one quests to the next with little room to explore.
I dont care at this pont if i get banned or something, i have been in this games beta for like 4 months now and you know why they lock down hard on that NDA? The game is total shit and all those people who just paid for a lifetime sub im so fucking sorry i didnt break this NDA months ago and flood the net with all the info i could because i sat here watching people get all excited and knowing they were going to get the shaft. Feel like im watching a house burn and i cant rush in and help those inside because ill get smacked for violating the NDA, but at this point, please dear god at the very least wait for a few months when they lift this nda and you get to see some gameplay videos, dont toss away your money.
and for people who say " all yea he isnt in the beta" here is a hint, you can only have 3 quests at any one time, those in the beta know what im talking about.
I am considering a life time sub. The main thing holding me back at this point is the cost due to the fact if I do it would be me and my husband getting one. I am glad that they are offering the ability to upgrade later. I am not making that decision lightly. I have played both AO and AoC at launch (for as long as six months later for both titles). So I am perfectly aware of what may happen.
AO
I stopped playing AO mainly due to the fact that most of my friends didn't stick with the game. The things that others didn't like/problems they felt with the game, didn't cause me any issues. I enjoyed the game and thought it had a lot of original ideas concepts. Loved the sci-fi theme. I think it is still a great game and would be playing it now if they had a sufficient upgrade in graphics and UI to bring it in line with todays mmos. Hard to say what else I would like to see improved since I can't bring myself to play it due to the graphics.
AoC
Just wasn't an IP that really appealed to me. I doubt strongly that any developer could have made it appealing to me long term. Although they were supposed to have a wide variety in clothing, but I didn't really see it except in pvp gear. The armor was beautifully done though imo. I thought most of the graphics were fantastic. The male character models were great but I wasn't happy with the faces of the female models. A real killer in my enjoyment of a game. I'm sure there is a character modeler somewhere who like to roast me over an open fire for that. I didn't like the crafting or the fact that you couldn't craft till lvl 40. I have always crafted not for the reward but as something other to do than just go out and kill things. Also, I generally craft to give myself something different to look at.
TSW
Great story in a modern setting. Love the character models and especially happy with what they are doing with character creation. Especially happy with the female models (ty Funcom!) Lots of cool clothes even if I may have to buy some of them.
Only three quests at a time? Oh god thank you! I loathe having a million different (boring) quests. Mmos these days just use it as an alternate way to level. I call it quest grinding and I really have come to hate it. I miss the days when I could find some place to camp and just kill mobs to level or just anything that didn't involve talking to everyone in the area with an exclamation point over their head. Go out and kill the same things for different shallow reasons. Finish them all up then move on to the next level appropriate zone. Can I say that I have come to loathe dailies in games as well? I hope TSW doesn't have tokens either. I really miss the surprise factor of random drops. It is a fun killer to just take a token/s to a vendor for a predetermined set of loot. I have been in many, many, betas and I find that many of the things that most complain about doesn't really apply to me. I don't care about cross server lfg, dps meters and lots of other things.
TSW is bringing some new fresh ideas to genre that has become very stagnant and boring.

50 bucks plus anthoer 15 isn't enough?
This.
What AAA does that?
Some people want more than 3 slots for rp reasons.
Personally I'm completely opposite and think it's nice I can concentrate on just one character, "me"
I guess it's all moot now anwyay.
Not like there is any use until it launches. And that right now is what everyone is really watching.

I haven't seen a single press beta coverage and ur asking for moneh? No thanks
Hoping for the best for Funcom but they always seem to bite themselves in the buttocks. Being associated with EA doesn't help either.
Grim Dawn, the next great action rpg!

EA + FailCom = Red Alert
Move along.. dont say you were not warnned.
I was excited for TSW forever, until recently.
