LOL?

Lollli lol lol looll!

Lolis lodl lol, lolit plol?

Really, that is an exhageration but I have witnessed conversations in quite a few games recently that was not so far from that.

It is rapidly stealing the place "noob" used to have, especially among the gamers who are not so comfortable with english, I of course understand that not everyone can have a decent understanding of english but obsessive use of one or two words will not in any way remedy your lack in vocabulary, nor will it lead people to believe you know the language better then you do.

Yes I am naive believeing this thread will change anything, but then let us discuss why this bloody LOL is used to such an insane extent?

LOL?

The phrase "lol" is not used to much.. lol. I mean comon. lol I think ive only use the phrase "lol" like 2 times in my life. lol I think I prefer saying haha over the word "lol".  lol.. INFACT people who say "lol" are noobs.. lol Like those.. those people who play mmorpgs.. Who would do that?? lol..

I think I know exactly what your talking about.. personally I only say "lol" when I actually laugh at somthing. I mostly like to use haha though. Seems more origional. HAHAHA image

Actually to an extent I do get what you mean. When people have started using extra punctuation for lol, that is when it gets to me. I have started to see lol in all CAPS like LOL or with LOL!!!!!, like whatever was said was really funny, so just lol couldnt be used. Rarely when lol is used can I imagine somebody actually laughing out loud or even have a smile on their face. ::::28::

"Lol" is also used like an emote.
If I put lol at the beginning of a sentence it means that i am joking, and people won't get mad at me for insulting them (you won't believe how many people have zero sense of humor).

Also Lol is 1 letter short then Hehe, so it is particular convenient for lazy people like me
I calculated that if I save 1 letter for each time I have a laugh in game, that would save me 350 calories a day by not using my finger to type the extra letter, that would save me £ 2.50 for the extra sandwich I have to eat to cover the extra calories wasted.
So as you can see using Lol is very convenient either on the practical side and on the financial side image

Whats funny is theres a game (SWG) that actually uses it as an emote and when you use it your toon will sit there laughing and slapping his knee. Its actually very funny, and better then seeing it in just chat.

    Playing Fallen Earth.

I spoke to a guy on MSN the other day, and after he had said hello, all he ever said was 'lol'

I spent a couple of minutes typing, telling a story about something funny that happened to me, and he just says 'lol'

    *sigh*

I am not against LOL in any way, I am against it being used to a stupid extent.

I use lol myself, when I am in fact laughing out loud, not otherwise.

If some of the people who use lol as every 3rd word would indeed laugh out loud every time they wrote that not only would they probably be evicted from their appartment but surely die from asphyxiation.

By all means, it is physically and biologically impossible to laugh that much without serious brain injury, and ending up in guiness book of records.

PS. Just so everyone understands, as that is not always the case, I may sound serious but please view these posts as LESS then a life and death discussion? DS.

P.P.S By that I mean it is mostly a joke BTW, if my previous P.S did not explain that enough. D.D.D

P.P.P.S Sad that I have to explain this so toughroughly. D.D.D.S

    P.P.... Damn I busted my P key :(  D.D.D.D.S

I only say LOL if the person im talking to is talking about something completely retarded and uninteresting, so I just say "cool" or "lol" and minimize the conversation.

I have an opinnion, ban me.

  • SackynutSackynut Member Posts: 558

LOL is for people who dont like typing. Sometimes if it calls for 'lol' ill switch it up and be like "lawl", or "rofl" or maybe "rawful". stuff like that.

Its original purpose is just to signal that you are indeed laughing, although there are people that say it with no feeling as they are mostly zombified monkeys that learned how to type on a keyboard.  I only use lol as a means of laughing, and when I use it I actually do laugh out loud.  If I do LMAO or ROFL that means I'm laughing pretty hard.  Its like trying to narrate yourself thru IM's so to say of what kinda person you are.  How many times would you have to say step if you walked to the supermarket?

Professor Hubert Farnsworth - That question is less stupid but, you asked it in a profoundly stupid way.

Not a clue, but surely less times then some LOL cases i have seen in a couple "general" chats.
