This weekend, we take a look at the ROCCAT Kave Headset. Is it just the right headset for gamers? Find out and then leave us your thoughts in the comments.

The Roccat line of gamer peripherals is a relatively newcomer to the US market. Designed and engineered in Germany, they are a handsome line and have unique features to help distinguish them from their competitors.  After viewing their line at CES, I decided I would take their 5.1 surround headset for a spin.

I use one of these and it sounds great. Upgraded from a Logitech G35 and its a lot better in terms of build quality and sound.

Lol, don't read it if you think it's not genuine, don't you know how the world works? without those reviews you would be probably reading only your id card noob.

I bought a Kave more than a year ago, and when the ampfiler gets power it produces a high frenquency whistling sound, which is very annyoing.

I tried it in all kinds of PC-s notebooks, soundcards. I evene brought it back to the store to get a replacement, but it still does this. So I just had to put it to collect dust in my cabinet.

Yes you can use just green jack when you don't have real 5.1 soundacrd. I am currently without soundcard too. Laptop with 4 jacks cannot run mic and 5.1 together so getting Creative X-Fi for USB :).

As for the hiss you cannot go around it with any 5.1 headset. They are powered by USB cable and that is what is causing the hiss. As soon as it plays something hiss goes away so that is not technical problem.

I just find I am not willing to spend $90 on headphones no matter how good they are.  There are much better values out there than these.

Not true. After that Ive bought a Speedlink Medusa NX 5.1, and its a hundred times better than the crappy Roccat. Its much more confortable and it doesnt give any hissing sound. (And it has a small amp too.)
