not sure what to make of it....short demo, so probably not much.
Pretty much what I was afraid of. Really wanted this title to work out but it appears there just isnt enough lessons for funcom to learn to make a good MMO.
Playing: GW2 Waiting on: TESO Next Flop: Planetside 2 Best MMO of all time: Asheron's Call - The first company to recreate AC will be the next greatest MMO.
in funcoms defense. it was the very first public hands on for TSW. it does sound like a lot of work still needs to be done. and while my gut tells me they are far from being able to release mid-June. i hope they do well at launch. i want to try it out at some point. but i will wait for a good 6 months or so.

Its not a great defense because at this point we should see pretty close to a finished game.

they've had a tough time with this one. and EA wants there money. it's too bad cause it's a really cool concept. they just need more time to finish it. but, it's too late now. heck the have 2.5 months maybe they will get it all nice and shiney. who knows.
When they start showing off thier game and there are only a few months left to release and people are talking about how its still only beta and I hope this gets fixed, then yeah it's going to be a lemon.
The character animations are NOT going to get fixed at this late date. The sound issue might.
I predict this game will have an AOC 2.0 launch and FUNCOM will claim the super gold deluxe crown of worst mmo launcher evar.

No sure how you can blame anything on EA as they're just doing US retail distribution and marketing.

It's possible that EA is pressuring Funcom to release in June because their fiscal quarter ends on June 30th.
However, it's also possible that Funcom simply bit off more than they can chew with TSW.
Well, it looks like Funcom has done it again. It's a shame, too, because I was really looking forward to this game. It intriqued me much more than GW2, but it just doesn't look like Funcom is capable of pulling off a smooth launch. I''m beginning to believe this game is going to be another launch day mess, and I'm bummed about it. I'll keep an eye on its progress months after launch to see if it turns into the game I'm hoping for.

I have no idea how that's possible. That's like saying Fed Ex is pressuring them to release it.
Not exactly. Funcom is completely dependent on EA for all hard copy sales and gets paid when EA sells the game to retailers. EA wants to sell those copies before the end of the fiscal quarter. EA tells Funcom that if they do not have the game ready to sell by June, EA will penalize them financially for potential loses.
Publishers strong arm developers all the time and EA is notorious for it. Which is why I was surprised that Funcom actually went with EA as a publisher.

interesting that you read it as a bad thing. I read it as a good thing.
He's right, the selling point IS the story and not just the player story.
The atmosphere is great. It's not a combat game though the combat is fun it's also "functional".
If players are looking for a combat hootenanny then this isn't the game.
He is right though that the game needs a bit of polish. However, there was nothing that I could point to that I felt was remotely game breaking. Some silly stuff but that was about it.
Like Skyrim? Need more content? Try my Skyrim mod "Godfred's Tomb."
Damn I'm tired of the "it has potential" line like in that impressions piece when it comes to upcoming mmorpgs, I've yet to see the first mmorpg that "had potential" and at any point in time lived up to that potential.
I can't stop laughing at some of the anti-Funcom comments. Your opinions that Funcom games are sooo bad when on this very same website the have proven rating of x2 MMOs rated over 8.01+ with the highest rated of any game being less than a 9.00 One of those games was released in 2001?!?!
If Funcom makes the same mistakes they have in the past it will result in another failed 8.00+ rated MMO???
Really looking forward to TSW. I have enjoyed many hours playing Funcom games. And yes played both of those MMOs at launch.
Played: The Realm, Anarchy-Online, Tabula Rasa, Guild Wars, Age Of Conan, Star Trek Online, Aion, Rift, SWTOR
here's a gameplay video. i think its recorded on a cell phone. but it gives you an idea of what it looks like. graphics are nice imo. the spinning whirlwind attack is.......different.

You're going to judge how good an MMO is by the ratings assigned to it on mmorpg.com? Really?

When AoC was released only the first 20 levels was finished and polished enough to be ready for release. They tried to hide that and pretended the whole game was like the first levels. IMO, that was fraud and not some innocent mistake. It was a cash grab and proved they had no respect at all for the players. They only wanted the money.
Why would anyone want to give a company like that a second or a third chance? If I dont like the way a company is behaving and feel like they are stealing my money I will not return. And I will never trust them again.
Perhaps if people that I trust tell me the game is good 6 months after release I will try it. No way I will preorder it or play it on release day.

Look, I've been buying Funcom products since TLJ. I loved AO and liked AoC.
You know why? AO immersed me fully, AoC kept me engaged with combat.
The point is that Funcom has always had talent in the innovation department. This game doesn't bring anything new to the table. What's even worse is that after AoC they pull a WoW with the combat.
What happened to directional shielding, blocking and other aspects of the interactive combat it introduced through AoC that have been copied by upcoming titles like GW2?
Seriously, how can they have half-assed something so vital to the player experience?
Another thing that peeves me is how it's again an instance-fest like AoC on TOP OF IT ALL. I mean, it literally goes in the direction of SWToR, the greatest abomination to MMOs to hit the market.
No, I used to like Funcom as developers, but this is really the nail in the coffin for any hope I had for them to produce something great.
LIfetime sub? Please. This title will go f2p within a year.

I've always been extremely skeptical of this game...and not just because it's Funcom.
There really has been hardly any footage of this game available beyond developer-run demos, and usually...there's a reason for that. If a game "has it," it's going to "flaunt it." And if the game doesn't flaunt it then well...there's probably a reason.
And sadly enough, the recent videos and impressions don't really increase my opinion of this game.
