Halo is gettting ****** by 343.

"Another interesting change to Halo 4 is loadouts. Rather than everyone rolling out with the same weapons online, players bring customized gear into battle."

"Weapons still appear around the map, of course, but they appear in random spots via drop pods."

"In another interesting minor tweak, the respawn in Team Slayer is instantaneous rather than reliant on a clock."

"Oh, and since Chief vanished, Spartans have since learned to run; sprinting is an innate ability in everyone."

"Players can also use Forerunner Vision to peek through walls, Batman style."

Well I know the game is a long way off and these are just the first details...but man it makes me sick to my stomach. Halo was unique and one of the more skilled based shooter series for consoles but it looks like 343 are eliminating many of the balance elements in order to make it more appealing to the shooter crowd.

I just whish developers would realize not all their games need to sell like CoD (and yes I know Halo does sell very well I'm just speaking in general) and would quit eliminating what makes their games unique in order to appeal to a wider crowd.

Yeah it does sound pretty bad.  Don't forget that higher ranked players have more options when it comes to their loadouts too.  So much for a level playing field.

I play some Halo like every day, but I'm seriously concerned about where it's heading.

EDIT: Oh yeah, and don't forget about joining games in progress.  Yeah that'll happen with Halo now.  Just what I want to do is join a game and have it end with a loss a moment later.  If I wanted that I'd play Call of Duty.

  • Now you know why Bungie used their own money and sacrificed a hugely valuable IP they were solely responsible for making (ie. Micosoft did not own them when they were making it) to get out from under a company like Microsoft (or EA or Activision).

Halo was in production for years before MS got their grubby hands on it.  In the end most games are more about the version than the franchise and we as gamers should realize it and not be sheep to these companies that have business captializing off this crap.

Halo is not getting fucked. It's getting modernized. I mean if you want it the same way the game is going to die 100%. The game has bout 60k people at peek times on halo reach. (idk about other halos) the game is out dated and needs a new light on it. If this does not work to get halo back in the world then the game will die off.

EDIT: just because it has load outs does not make it a COD clone. Get over your selves to. PLUS the game is not out. Little details are out and those can change any time. So rate it after you play it.

    Thank you :]

I just enjoy FPS that have an even playing field.  I don't enjoy ranks giving advantages.  The armory was a great addition to Halo Reach because it gave people something to look forward to with rank, without giving them a gameplay advantage.  Everyone had the same hitbox and the same weapon selection in the match.  With these changes to Halo 4, a person new to the game after it has been out for a while will have fewer armor abilities and less weapon choice at spawn.  If that's modernizing I want no part of it.

I agree they are ruining it. This just sounds like CoD with vehicles now...

Yep, CoD will do (has done to some extent) for shooters what WoW has done for MMOs:

Cater to and attract casuals while alienating "old school" gamers.

Well it may be going towards a CoD type senario. But if they don't do something to halo it will kill halo. The multiplayer is dead on halo(s). Also This will attract a new audience which is good. PLUS the ranking system is a good idea. Who likes to go into a game with people who no life and will rape you in 10 different ways. The ranking system will have people with the same skill level as you (or close). ALSO I bet they will have old school game modes(where you start with the same weapons). I think halo needs to go in this direction so the game does not die. Plus if you don't like the new halo it does not mean you need to play it. Just stick to the older games, they still are playable :P. I just am certain Halo 4 will resserect halo match making.

BUT on the side note: COD has 500k + players on PSN and Live. Halo has 70k on reach, probably 200-300k through all the games. So halo needs a new touch.

I am an MMO fan and an FPS fan.  I love Halo and for the most part, the COD series.  I liked the level playing field of Halo and the unrealisticly long battles, where you had to wear shields down and what not.  I also enjoy the other side, but that's what I play COD for, not Halo.

It almost feels like the WoW-clone syndrome.  If I want to play WoW,  I'll play WoW cause WoW does itself better than the clones usually do. If I want to play COD, I'll play COD. I don't want HALO becoming COD with aliens. Just my opinion.

I'm somewhat afraid that if they do the wrong thing to the multiplayer, it'll be worse off than if they dont' change anything.  Halo ISN'T Call of Duty, it ISN'T battlefield.  It's different.  I don't want to see it become generic.  I want to play Halo 4, but I also want it to be a true Halo experience, fun, and as fair as can be.

The ranking system is fine, if you're referring to trueskill matchups.  It worked fairly well in Halo 3, and it worked better in Halo: Reach though in Reach your trueskill rank wasn't displayed.  I have no dispute with them continuing that.  That is not what I was talking about at all.

What I was referring to, was your Spartan rank that you increase by acquiring "Spartan Points".  This rank is different than trueskill.  If it's like Reach, it will NOT play into who you get matched with.  It WILL however, unlock things useful in combat such as armor abilities and spawn weapons.  This means that someone who has played more will have an advantage from spawn over someone who hasn't played as much, but has the same trueskill rating.  This is not competitive, fair, Halo.

I also feel that the weapons dropping from the sky to unpredictable places on the map is bad for competitive even matches.  It adds chance to the equation, an element of randomness in factoring who will win.  You might be down 2 points with seconds to go, when a rocket launcher randomly lands next to you.  Much like turning items off in Super Smash Bros. Melee tournaments, elemination of random factors is key to an even, fair matchup.  Halo 4's change here goes against that.

I want Halo 4 to be better than Reach, and better than Halo 3.  I think the episodic Spartan Ops are a great addition, however I think most of the changes to multiplayer are not in the spirit of competitive Halo gameplay.

As to your side note, Call of Duty can have all the players it wants.  That game series is completely off when it comes to even, competitive matchups.  Killstreaks, Perks, Loadouts, Deathstreaks, joining games in progress that end a second later (and kill your winning streak stat), all either provide advantages to longer term players over newer ones, or are simply an annoyance.  Let the random factors stay in Call of Duty, and let Halo be about matching players with similarly skilled opponents on even ground.

I really don't believe Halo needs this to keep going. It has a huge following around the world on all platforms who have enjoyed the game for a very long time. The reason that it isn't as big as CoD or even as it once was is due to how fail Reach and ODST were. They really just needed to go straight from 3 to 4 if they wanted to continue the series rather then developing these side games because I believe that it damaged the brand. I play CoD a lot and have played Halo since the beginning and I really like how different they are. If CoD becomes the WoW of FPS games then it just shows that the industry really has learnt nothing from the behemoth Blizzard created.

If HALO is part of "old school" gaming, then I'm at a loss. My brain just can't comprehend that statement.

Now, I don't play CoD,  but old school FPS games sucked compared to what we have today. In Doom you couldn't even aim up or down . . .

Just wanted to point out that Bungie was done with Halo after 3.  Microsoft, however, made them earn their freedom as an independent company by requiring two more games before they'd be let loose.  Those were ODST and Reach.  I play Reach a lot, but it does have some flaws to me that often curb my enjoyment of the game.

I see your points; but if Halo 4 does have the feature where you can have better weapons as you rank up that will kind of be lame. It would be much more unique if everyone has the same weapons they can customize. But this is just some info I am certain things will change, more things will be added, or more info that's overlooked right now that will be said later.

Thanks for the info and I really don't have anything against Bungie as up to and including Halo 3 they did an amazing job. Even 343 will only be doing what they are told so that only leaves the company pulling the strings who have caused this game to take a dive.

I think 343 wants to breathe new life into the series, I really do.  I'm also really hopeful the game turns out amazing, because I'm certain I'll be playing it for years.

But you're right, all the info isn't out yet, we just don't know the whole picture.  I haven't actually played the game, so it could be astounding for all I know.

Anyways, let's just hope they pull off a great Halo experience :)

As long as no perks and/or kill streaks come out; it will be good. But some cool kill streaks i thought of if they did it..

For convent elites the kill streaks would be..

    12: release the flood

    8: Control the mothership

    6: mothership fire (no control)

    4: idk

    2: idk

    1: idk

I thought the mothership and flood kill streaks would be cool if they ever did kill streaks.

Not sure if I like the different load outs. I liked being better than other people while using the same exact weapons as them. Peak through walls so we can see where everyone is? Um.....thats kind of stupid.

Its just peak through the room next to you like xray. If you think about it; master chief has a huge ass metal suit. It has so limited features. It deffeinitly should be able to use xray. and I am sure theres certain walls you cant use it through. I.e: metal, walls, or barriers . well idk.

I just did my first real life face palm to your post.

SINCE WHEN IS 60 THOUSAND PEOPLE CONSIDERED DYING!!!!! That's a ton of players. Games don't need millions of players to be successful and IMO shouldn't try to cater to that many people because then they will just become some souless copy/paste FPS (like many of the new shooters on the market).

Halo is never going to be as popular as CoD because it takes skill. If your bad at the game your going to do bad no matter what. You won't randomly get a magic box from the sky that transports you to a gunners turrent and gets you kills, you won't be able to spray an SMG and kill me with a lucky headshot, you won't get rewarded for dying a lot, etc.

I like CoD and play it from time to time, but it's a complete mess and is made around the idea that almost anyone can pick it up and get enough kills to not be frusterated and have fun. This is fine and all, but games like Halo are meant to be much more competitive with a higher skill ceiling.

PS- And yes I know the game is FAR from release, like I said in the OP this is just my initial reaction to that first bit of info and not a "it's going to suck" post.

PS- And yes I know the game is FAR from release, like I said in the OP this is just my initial reaction to that first bit of info and not a "it's going to suck" post.

60k players is a lot. BUT compared to every other online game, halo has such little players. It is much more fun when you get into game instantly. But since CoD came out everyone thinks anything that has load outs or anything is a exact copy!

I disagree. You say compared to every other online game 60k players is small...I bet thats more players than 99% of the games out right now have.

I do agree though loadouts in themselves don't make the game a CoD clone. What it does is it takes away from the balance of the game. Add this in with the weird armor perks described, random weapon drops, sprinting, and instant respawning it just decreases the skill factor and adds to the random luck factor.

As I said Halo has always been more about skill than luck (esspecially the first 3 since the didn't have the horrid reticule bloom that Reach had) and these changes scare me.

Well I am sure they will have limitations, plus the weapons drop pods could be changed. AND I bet they got that from firefight in other halos. I think we need to get more info or beta it(they said no beta though) before talking bad about it.
