I'm probably the only one on the planet that feels this way, but I'd be down for a meticulously crafted sim of life at Hogwarts. That'd be more interesting to me than all of the grinding and uber loot in the world.
Hogwart's alone would be too limited for an mmo. The entire wizarding world along with the conflict between the Death Eaters and The Order of the Phoenix would make for an interesting mmo. Perhaps have it date back to the first rise of Voldemort so you can have more freedom with character creation and their roles in the world.
The Harry Potter universe really wouldn't make a good MMO. You'd basically be forced into a pretty limited role, hense why the console games have sucked for it. You're better off hoping for a pen and paper version.
i don't think so, of course hogwarts by itself would be limited, but whose to say it has to always be in hogwarts? There's hogsmeade, the forbidden forrest, diagon alley, knockturn alley, places around london like St. Mugo's Hospital, the Ministry of Magic, the Leaky Cauldron and so forth. Hogwarts would be the center of the world but by no means the end of it. And I agree the games thus far for Harry Potter have sucked but they're based on the movies and books with plotlines to follow. In an open ended MMORPG you wouldn't be constrained by those factors.
To me the hardest part would be trying to pump JK for info in order to round out hundreds of spells, potions, charms, curses, enchanted objects, mystical creatures and the like.
Originally posted by optcom i'm sure this question gets asked alot, but has anyone got any idea or has anyone heard anything about a harry potter MMORPG?
It was in development after the first movie came out and canned shortly afterwards.
Hey there I just joined the forums to talk abouts this. I just recently started to read the books. I was blown away. I am in love with them. The movies are amazing aswell. I have been searching for an MMORPG of Harry Potter I would be in love with it for sure. I had some Ideas on how to go about making the game seem alot bigger. They could add diffrent areas of the world. You could vist Romania or something. I still haven't finnished the 2nd book. But I think I read something about one kid saying that there saying how he choose to go to hogwarts. Maybe there are other schools that teach such things. Maybe going deeper into the world of harry potter. Dragons , mistical creatures, ect.... I can see a huge world when I see the books. As for other things can be made up but still feel like it can blend in the harry potter world.

but i think that the dead eaters gonna by ulimanited
i hate to burst your bubbles, but harry potter, outside of a book SUCKS.. the movies were horriblle i mean terrifingly horrible. i have tried the potter games and guess what, they were crap crap crap.
now you may think by reading this it is a rant well you are partially right. but people please how can you want a potter mmorpg, excuse my french but all this jazz is taking the piss out of genuinely good books.
all of this is just money making schemes anyway and there is no way potter could ever be good as an mmorpg.
and if you stick around long enough you might just be able to get a flying broomstick for you very own.
i agree, it would be too limiting, children everywhere will want to play it, and that means we'll have even more immature players running around.
Players would have to visit Hogwarts, and there would be hundreds of people trying to be harry potter or one of his friends,
now you could either have it set outside of hogwarts, in which case there's not much left for players to visit from the book, aside from Hogsmede, the Ministry of Magic, Diagon & Knockturn Alleys and Kings Cross theres no real locations from the books, which would make it even more pointless. or you could include hogwarts, but then you'll have hundreds of students running around making mischief, which is rather silly if you ask me
the stories make good books, but i don't see how it could be made into a MMORPG
Sorry, If this game comes out, i mean, i read all the books, but no thanks, i'm not going to play it , no offense to the harry potter fans, i just dont feel like playing more than 1 game based on a book / movie *I.e : Star wars galaxies*

I saw it mentioned once in a past magazine of Gamepro, but just a small paragraph metioning Harry Potter MMoRPG
Played ---> Earth and Beyond, Everquest, Planetside, Star Wars Galaxies, City of Heros, Lineage II, Everquest II, Final Fantasy XI, Dark Age of Camolot, Guild Wars
Like the movies and books anything harry potter would annoy me. I hate the half-arsed made up names. "OH NO HARRY, the wumbly womps are coming and we are blocked by the cheeby woos so I cant reach the chumble chorps!!" Stupid stupid stupid.
They should release an mmorpg though, anything harry potter would make a killing. Kids would love it. Thankfully I wouldn't have to play it. Watch it has the best PvP ever though... lol j/k

thats because the book is written for children, not for adults. tough it also attracts a large adult fan base. but the book is made for children, and they seem to like the weird names.
