OK I played WoW for a while like everyone else on here. I got sucked into the Rift beta and thought it was the best thing since sliced bread.... until the 3rd month when I hit max level and realized I was just on a treadmill and nothing had changed. SWTOR releases and I only last 3 weeks before it dawns on me that it's just the same stuff from the other mmos only with fancy voice acting and a cool IP. You get the picture. Can anyone convince me that this game will be any different or should I throw the $50 or $60 at TSW and/or GW2 in the next couple months. Money isn't the issue. I could buy all the games. I just don't want to get attached if it's only going to be a 30 night stand :)

Im honestly not sure myself but im buying it nontheless...i get the feeling TERA isnt gonna end up like that and ive played WoW for 4 years so far...my gut feeling is telling me...this is it...finally a replacement...unlike the others where like you said...i just had pure fun and no instinctive feelings like this...i mean obviously its just the beginning release so at first when i hit max level like most new mmo's i might end up either pvp'ing or falling back on sumthin till futher content is released...tho im gonna guess they learned from the korea releae....ihope.

I was like you just replace Rift with Aion, though I loved Aion. TERA is the kind of game I've been wanting for a long time. That's just me though and my "checklist" of what i want from my MMO.

If you really want to know I would say preorder from Amazon for free to get all four days of open beta and make a decision from there.

Just not worth my time anymore.

You have been corrupted by WoW, so almost no other game will keep your attention for long.

Try to get into TERA open beta and decide for yourself if you want to play the game for longer than 30 days. I will warn you though, it will be a grind-centric game during end-game to get your items to their maximum capacity, but the pull of the game is the combat.

Remember, games are like Ice Cream... most of us tried vanilla first, and while we go to many other flavors, its vanilla we keep going back to. WoW is your vanilla... learn to like other flavors.

In the meantime I would check out some videos and check the main site for what features will be in the game.

Just not worth my time anymore.

Here is the thing about Tera .

The Bad - Very bad is the first 20 level's , the questing is linear and more boring the paint drying on a cold humid day.

Graphics - Up to you if its your thing or not, I dont like some parts of this, and some of this is really well done.

The combat - If you like challenging combat that requires skill and timing, this is the combat for you, it requires some skills , espcially at higher levels.

Dungeons and BAM"s (Big Ass Monsters)  A lot of fun, and again a challenge.

End game - yet to be decided since Ive not seen it

Other interesting things that could be fun, is just how you can customize your gear, political systel, ect...

I have a feeling tho Tera will get a very bad rep from people who cant get past level , but I think the End game will be much better then most games.

The big factor here is GW2, will it be as awesome as the videos seem, might be rough to keep playing Tera once GW2 comes out.............but sadly no one will know this till that day comes.

Well, the no-brainer is to try the open beta next weekend. It'll cost you 25-30GB of download bandwidth, but you'll get a chance to play the game (with added NA/EU content that wasn't present in closed beta) and get a feel for the game.

The level grind is far less than the stereotypical Korean model, and it wouldn't be hard for you get into the lvl20-30 content, which is where the game comes into it's own.

It's a tthemepark so it will definitely be treadmill. It remains to be seen how effective the political system will be in promoting pvp, but if they make that work it will definitely make for something interesting.

I suspect this will mainly be a group dungeon PvE game - Looking at their lineup they have 5 endgame dungeons each with a corresponding hardmode.

To be clear - It doesn't revolutionize the themepark and I think that's what some of the knit-pickers will bash it for. As someone that's completely worn out of the button mash-fest of most mmo's and worn out of rotations I absolutely love the combat. I like themeparks and grouping for the sake of grouping - This game has that and the combat gives it an action-packed adventure.

I play EVE primarily, but sometimes I just want to hop into some straight active action.

Oh and I can play with my ps3 remote, that's awesome too -_-

I believe preorder ends today 4/13. So if you want to preorder you will have to do it soon. Otherwise wait until release.

If money isnt an issue I encourage you to pick up Tera.  But if money was an issue I would not touch it for at least a few months down the line because in my opinion Tera doesnt bring much to the table, it has the same repetive features that all the other themepark clones have.  I would wait to see what end game looked like if it was me.

Why don't you just wait until the free beta weekend? What's the rush? It's what I'm doing, got a beta invite email today, so we'll see.

To me you kind of just described MMO's regardless of which one you play.

The only difference between them is the ones you like... don't feel like a treadmill.   That's the problem... only you can tell if the game is going to be the treadmill you notice or the one you don't.

If it looks interesting and you have the cash laying around... you might like it.   I just have a hard time telling anyone to buy an MMO these days.

I have all the games you mentioned (TERA, GW2 and TSW) on pre-purchase.    I can't really say I have high hopes for any of them... but I guess at least GW2 doesn't have a monthly fee so I can dork around with it for more than 30 days without extra cost.

I played till like lvl 13 in CBT5. Can't really say much but that small glimpse was enough for me to like it enough to be desperate for April 19 to be here already!!  As many have already acknowledged.  No one game tends to be for everyone. Ppl like different things.  That said I will just say what it brings as neutral as possible.

    • Spell pool available is not as huge as other MMOS(thinking WoW, Aion, Warhammer..).  This is awesome if you like the idea of playing it with a PS3 controller.  Not so good if you loved this part of the MMO genre.  As for me, I found that I had enough spells to play with.

    • Graphics are AMAZING (not sure what other MMO has such graphics).  I LOVED this about the game.   However, IMO, your computer may need to be better than the recommended settings.  If your barely satisfying the minimum requirements, the game will feel choppy, and the graphics(as you will have to adjust them) will not be as amazing. As for spell graphics, they are your standard asian graphics(Aion type graphics), maybe slightly better definition.  This was a CON for me, but the rest of the games PROS allowed me overlook it ;)

    • Questing is something youll find very familiar, there is no change here.  You just say yes-yes-yes-yes accept, kill, loot and turn in, over and over.  Maybe even give a letter or two to someone standing right next to the quest giver -_-.  Up to lvl 12, the most amount of creeps needed to be slaughtered did not exceed ~15.   (I dont read lore, although the general feel is that your fighting alongside other races to defeat a common enemy).

    • Combat is different in the sense that you need to be directing your attacks(makes the killing stuff more engaging).  If you play berserker youll find that the attacks will be slow(but they hit hard) if you play a priest or mystic, youll be shooting stuff like crazy since youll be doing less dmge.  i find the directional combat to be a step in the right direction for the MMO genre.

    • Terrain interaction is a cross between Aion and WoW.  Wow tends to let you jump over anything that seems you can jump over. In Aion, that might not be the case and sometimes you found yourself trying to jump over that small lil hill to no avail. You cant kill yourself in TERA falling over that huge gaping hole because you simply cant move or jump into the hole(unlike WoW) .

Hope this gives you some insight on any of the questions you had.

    May the richest person win!!

If you order through amazon, do you get early access and all the good stuff?

  • Entropy14Entropy14 Member UncommonPosts: 675

I have a feeliing that Tera will be very boring solo, there will be lots of questing that you can do solo, but man it will be boring

The excitment in Tera IMO comes fomr BAMs and Dungerson.

I played beta 1 -5 and since my guild was not in yet I went solo the whole way from level 1 -38.  I was able to do all quest includig some of the hard dungeon quests which required a group but keep in mind I was a Lancer and was able to take a lot of damage while dishing out some moderate damage.

In the open world I was able to take on "Bam's" (big ass monsters) myself which was very rewarding since they dropped very nice loot which I could use or sell for huge amount of gold.

Dungeons don't require full groups if you have a competent and geared group that knows how to use the mechanics of the game.

Lastly it does depend on which class you play but all classes can solo through most content so far.

Thanks for the feedback guys.  I think I will  try the open beta and go from there!

I do agree it does get a little boring sometimes but it is nice to have the option to be able to finish stuff own your own rather than depending on a group all the time.  Questing I did solo most of the time but when it came to the bigger BAM quests I'd join in with random groups to make it more interesting.

I agreed Dungeons are very fun.  I did SM, CR dungeons which all required me to be on my toes, focusing on bosses tell tale signs and making sure I was blocking, manuevering the boss into places where I could stop him from moving or enraging.  One of the elements I like was the ability to stop the boss from enraging by interupting his behaviour with my lancers leash move.  Thus making the battle a lot easier and not having him go crazy and spawning multiple adds.

Amazon should send you two emails fairly close to each other. The first being a confirmation of the purchase and the next giving you the key. I did this back when CBT1 was about to open but I can't imagine it's changed.

Just not worth my time anymore.

  • Deron_BarakDeron_Barak Member Posts: 1,136
Or I should say confirmation of the preorder. Amazon won't charge until the box ships.

Let's face it. Life takes a certain amount of risk. I pre-ordered Tera not knowing anything about it. Guess what, I fell in love with it. Worst case scenario is you effing hate it. But then again, you could probably get a refund. In the end, it's a risk worth taking right.

just try the open beta... not that beta gives the full effect but it will help..

I for one will not be buying tera im just gunna wait for guild wars 2.. no point in buyin a game when most ppl are just gunna switch to gw2 on release.. i dont got that kinda time :) its just a filler for most.. you will have the hardcore fanboys but even they will quit they just dont wanna admit it :) oh plus this game alrdy failed once but i wont go there ;)

  • Odinthedark1Odinthedark1 Member Posts: 330

I wouldnt call myself a hardcore fanboy, but at the same time im not even slightly interested in gw2, looking at youtube vid's its nothing but WoW with a few gimmicks and exploration here and there, and thats an unbiased thought on it. ive never tried guild wars 1 either tho, and it looks like 2 is completely different...usually when a company changes things up and takes the risk....ill admit it does take balls but in the end it will likely fail, look at swtor like everyone says...i mean sure its got a "few" die hard fans but overall was a failure in terms of business. i was psyched at how they implemented choices and companions but i got bored not even a month in. gimmicks are just gimmicks.

you best do some more reading if you think its like WoW.. cuz its nothing like it.. just take a few mins and read up on it..

i for one am Xcited that healers are gone ;) also the way groups will be ..

    the WvW is just awsome..

the fact that the gear grind is gone is even better.

But anyway this is a Tera forum ;)
