Yeah saddly no persitent world in Diablo, though diablo never really did have a persistent world, and so was always more of a instance/hub game. I would love to see a mmo set in the Diablo setting/world though i would prefer it to be back either during the time when the prime evils were imprisoned (or prior.), or during the sin wars back when some of the angels sought to kill off humans (as in the setting humans were actually half demon/hafl angel atleast that is how the lore read.),
There's no persistent worlds. Persistent worlds is more of an MMORPG thing, which is an entirely different genre than the Diablo games. Persistent worlds also wouldn't work at all since areas in Diablo 3 are randomly generated. It would suck if you had to go through the same environs every time. Randomly generated overland, dungeons, monsters and loot is one of the core features of the game, and gives it major replayability.
The Diablo games really are a more modern evolution of roguelike games into graphical action RPGs.
