I've seen several people here with the idea that it is free? Where exactly are you getting this from? The game will be anywhere from $14.95 to $19.95 a month depending if Turbine actually implements options for block payments.

I think every game in development eventually has one of these posts--a person asking where to download a game that isn't even out yet, and assuming it's free. I really don't get where people get assumptions like this.
They are still doing alpha testing for DDO and are taking applications for beta testing.
Due to what they discovered in alpha testing, Turbine has decided to push back the release date and do more testing.

This games ganna flop , no ones ganna pay for something guild wars gives for free. A few dnd fanboi's but even those guys will flock to nwn2 when it comes around.
19.95 , thats laughable. Can almost get a station full access for that price.
Played: AC, AC2, Anarchy Online, AoC, D&D Online, Dark+Light, EQ2, EVE Online, FF XI, Guild Wars, Lineage II, Lotro, Ragnarok, Ryzom, Star Wars Galaxies, Ultima Online, WAR, WoW, etc. Also various MUDs

I've been thinking the same thing, it just seems so much like Guild Wars. I'm sure there will be a free month included when you buy it though, so I'll be trying it. The fee will almost definetly be $14.95. I just said $19.95 because I thought Turbine might finally get their act together and offer bulk payments ($19.95 being for 1 month and it could be like $12.95 if you paid for 12 months at once) and/or a Station Access thing for AC1, AC2, DDO, and LotRO like Sony...
Thinking about it AC1, AC2, DDO and LotRO for $21.95 or $19.95 would be awesome. I'd probably do that.
The play style might be the same as GW (Player only zones and all) but D&D is more based around being one of kind. You have soo many feats and skills, mutilclassing, and hundreds and hundreds of spells that coming across someone just like is no easy task.
I am holding my breath on this one, I hope they can make it worthwhile, but I won't be overly disappointed if it does end up flopping

i have been reading up on this game as my friends an i are hardcore D&D'ers i havent seen 1 place where it mentions its free or the cost even hehe.
Anyways guys...isn't there a open beta or something...?
I wouldn't really call it open since you have to fill out a form and get picked, but yes there is a beta.
You can sign up for it on the D&D online site
