You can keybind most abilities to other keys, but I don't believe you can use modifiers (e.g. shift/ctrl/alt) as part of the key bindings. I also recall people saying that they couldn't bind to mouse keys, unless they have a razor naga or similar mouse with a lot of additional buttons.
I also don't believe it's possible to bind each weapon set separately and I'm not sure if it is per character or per account for key bindings either.
The good news is you don't have a lot of keys to actually bind.
~ = weapon swap
1-5 = weapon skills
6 = heal
7-0 = utility skills
F1-F4 = special class abilities (like attunements for elementalists)
Then you have movement keys and spacebar for jump and that's about it. So what 20 keys all up.
Thanks for spelling that out. For the life of me I"ve been wondering if i couild bind what i need to my ps3/pc controller. Forgot about the special keys and jump keys. I wonderis ther another joystick out there that can do this.
MY "source" tells me: Having Razer Naga mouse provides a huge advantage in this game. You are constantly on the move and sometimes hard to use skills and move/dodge around at the same time just with keyboard. Naga mouse removes the need to use skills on keyboard. It's like you have three hands!"
@ fiontar - really sorry for asking questions. You saying there will not be a cookie cutter spec for each Class ?
If gw1 pvp was such a breakthrough why was there no prof game league like wow has?
The more complex a game is, the lower the people that play it. The general masses are not interested in exercising the mind.
Its funny you say WoW is complex when its as simple as League of legends
You could say in the PVP deparment GW1 was like HoN and WoW was like LoL, the first ones have better pvp in general but lack the simplicity that the masses enjoy that the second have.
Exactly, look at a game like farmville or angry birds. They will always hve more people who play it than a console game. The reason why wow's trinity has remained the blueprint of an MMO is because it's easy to make. This is the age of "we need to make money" not like the 90s where making games was about making fun new things. It's the reason why EA and other big companies now want to focus development talent on making the similar simpler games I mentioned earlier. Sure, every now and then they will throw a bone to a game like Portal, for the most part it's more cost effect for them to make Farmville 4: the return of the cow.
Back on topic,
I don't care about key binding, what I would hate though is key binding to the other "swapped" weapons. No macro like key binding. Heck, i think keybinding would help me out with my joystick binding.

I feel so awful, i have razer Naga, bought it cause it was onlsale, and have never used any of the buttons in the side. I wonder which is better, using this or using a joystick

Believe me you are better with Naga and keyboard. Game requires fast reactions and keeps you engaged constantly.
I really hope they will make a real rebind system, for me it is essential, i just hate having to make auto-hotkey scripts, reread them all to try to figure out which one is good, and what they do, each time i stop playing for few weeks.
Cool, i'll be using my naga and ideazon fang. I swear, the fang was the best mmo device ever made. I have no idea why they don't make them anymore and why no one has come close to reproducing one.

Yeah the Naga and keyboard or even the Hex and keyboard are going to make a huge difference in this game I think. I'm actually hoping that on those Lazy days I can use my Razer Hydra. Flip wrist up down left or right to dodge in said direction etc.
You might have 40 + skills but in the end of the day there will be a cookie cutter setup that everyone playing a certain Class will use.
@ grayghost - 1. Anet wants a huge pvp player base i presume so masses. 2. Wow pvp at high levels is complex. Thats why you have arena tournaments and its diffucult due to having many keybinds.
So wait, now requiring players to use more keybinds is an artificial way to make the game more challenging? Why not take it a step further and make only the odd number keys bindable? Your movement keys can still be ASDW, but now you can't use QERT or F. Instead, you can only bind keys to the right of TG&B on your keyboard. That will be so challenging!
It's true that that would be more challenging, but that does not make it good design. In GW2, you get relatively the same number of spells and abilities at your disposal as in WoW, but the keybindings for them are consolidated and much more intuitive. Rather than just being able to use any ability on a whim, based entirely on cooldown, in GW2, you have to make a decision to swap to the appropriate that you will be stuck with for a period of time. Surely you can see how THIS, an actual gameplay feature, will require some semblence of skill?

I'm in the same boat.
I my Wolfking Timberwolf but they don't make them anymore and not anything that close out there. I bought a few of these and a few Warrior Pads when I heard they were going out of business.
Such a simple design but impossible to find on a newer keyboard. Though there is the Steelseries Merc Stealth boards.... just not exactly the same
Wow only 20 and that includes movement? My mage in wow had like 40 key binds. I guess this is what we call pvp for the masses.
My mage in wow stood in one spot and hit the same rotation over and over again.

I suspect they will get ticket bombed if the feature is not in during the coming beta events. Many consider it a requirement for modern games. Almost everyone uses or has used modifiers.

you can always bind keyboard keys to the mouse, if the mouse is any decent.
Myself and many others have been screaming about modifiers for awhile now.

Dodging is a limited resource that recharges over time, so you have to use it judiciously.
