I hope enough profit was realized from Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning for 38 studios to rid themselves of the stigma associated with EA before Copernicus is released.

I have a bad feeling that there probally contracted with them as publisher.

Be a shame if thats so ...............I think quite a few are gun shy of EA and there direction as of late.

    I'd be more concerned with Kurt Shillings responses on the Fires of Heaven forums when he basically said Copernecus would not reinvent the wheel.  Alot have taken that to mean another WoW clone.

    Curt has stated in the past that the MMO will be self published.

    Or an EQ-ish clone. For something thats slated to release this year there keeping it under wraps.

     

    I do hope it is self published.

    This is somewhat relevant but if you didn't notice when Reckoning came out it was available on services other than EA's Origin.

    Curt fought EA pretty hard to make sure it was available on Steam according to rumor. Remember 38 studios is not owned by EA like other devs are. I think they actually appear to have a little bit of pull with EA.

    Beyond that the studio was funded in large part from schillings own pocket. It doesn't appear that 38 studios is largely dependent on EA. They could very well be in a position to tell EA to take a hike or at least negotiate favorable terms. I don't know if they will, butthe possibility is there.


    Just remember, 38 Studios is not necessarily at the beck and call of EA. even if EA ends up publishing this title, 38 will be a lot more incontrol of their own destiny than say Bioware or Mythic. I think EA is not worth fearing too much in this case.
