Whatever happened to GTA 4?

Aight, awhile back, about 2-4 months after GTA III (pre-VC)came out I had read in an EGM that Rockstar was kicking around the idea of GTA 4 being online.  I can't remember if it was supposed to be mmorpg or just simply online, but the way the column read they were indicating more of an mmorpg-ish type game.  Has anyone heard anything of this? And if so what's the latest info that you've heard.  To be honest- I feel there is a wealth of untapped potential in this gang/ organized crime type of online rpg game.  Who wouldn't want to go from being common thug to possible gang leader or even mob boss (or for you moraly correct folks -police cheif).  GTA as an mmorpg would be a success just off of fan base and theme alone.  Just wondering if anyone had any recent news/ opinions on this.

A mob boss approached the dev team and offered some "protection" for them for a small fee.  The dev team refused and now they are all at the bottom of some river with concrete booties.  image

It is probably in development or at least on the drawing board.  They just wont tell you about it until they have something to show.  What is news without a visual aid.

Why doesn't DOS ever say "EXCELLENT command or filename!"
