Looking for my new Sandbox

I find myself in the same situation, looking for that game that gives me enough freedom to keep me hooked every day.

EVE is a good choice, it's been said already that it's the best sandbox out there right now and I'd have to agree. However, you have to be in the mood to fly around in space to play it. I just don't think I've been in the mood lately otherwise I'd be re-activating my accounts.

I'm considering subscribing to Darkfall, but also want to wait and see what 2.0 brings. I remember playing the trial and really enjoyed it. The game could definitely use more sandbox elements to be a fully scaled sandbox imo.

As of yesterday I have been trying Mortal Online and I've enjoyed the few hours I've played so far. The UI is pretty much aweful, but that's my only real complaint about the game so far. It reminds me of Elder scrolls in a lot of ways.

I'm also looking forward to Salem and The Repopulation as ones that are going to be in testing soon.

I think you would actually find Vanguard a great MMO to play,it's a hybrid along the same lines as ArcheAge but no PVP at the moment. It used to have FFA pvp servers and FFA guild vs guild servers, you could attack anyone even if they were in your guild.

But it has everything else you are looking for to be honest.

I will be checking out Salem soon.

Like most here, waiting to see how The Repopulations pans out. Until then, playing EvE and UWO now and then. DF was ok but the community killed it for me. I found MO to be just plain horrible and not worth the effort. Giving all theme-parks a pass for now...

    I looked at Salem,

But I guess I'm just not looking for something so hardcore as to contain permadeath.  One late night playing could cost you months or years of work...I guess i'm just not up for that.

So you would sooner a game where you build everything, do everything  to the point where everyone has seen it all and leaves? or maybe a server reset so you can do it all again and again?

The perma-death system is what will give your assets and hard work value. it helps give the game a living economy and gives us reason to keep playing.

In the sandbox games I have played its normally people who try to carry everything they own on them or try that one trade run where they invest everything into it cause they are greedy and then think its unfair when its taken away.

I watched a few Salem Utube vids, although Its called Permadeath system it was stated you will keep some of the attributes from your previous character.

It was also stated that crimes could be tracked by other players so they could hunt and kill the criminals.

Im not sure on this but asset wise, I will be surprised if you can't just go back to your town after death and just have lost what you were carrying anyway.

I guess the point I’m trying to make is don’t be put off by scary words...

Yeah, I think Ryzom may be what you are after, it has one of the most advanced crafting systems this side of SWG.

Just don't expect very much "Massively" in your Multiplayer Online RPG.

Ryzom is what I had in mind also....The population isnt bad (at least on the english server) and it is definitely a sandbox with great crafting/harvesting.
