40 Year Old Virgin

It was hillarious, go see it. The trailer looked like a real turn off but the movie itself was really good. In my oppinion it was funnier than Wedding Crashers, but different humour.

Who cares. Humour is to make someone laugh, and if it meets that expectation, then it does what it was meant to do. There doesn't have to be intelligence behind it. Family Guy is an increasingly popular show, and let's just say it wasn't crafted by Einstein.

I actually consider Family Guy smart comedy, since you have to know about pop culture to really understand why it is so funny. Otherwise, you are just laughing at the dirty jokes.

Ummm.... Family guy is my favourite comedy show (I have every DVD they have ever released), I'm saying they will write anything that comes off the top of their head or something completely random, which goes to show it doesn't have to be intelligent to be humourous.

So what i'm trying to say is, STFU! Noob.

The whole fact that you put "Pop culture" and "smart" in the same sentence, as well as correlating it...Makes me weep for society.

I assume such a subject can be interesting to the persons with a "normal life".

But to me, it could have been saying 40 year old meat eater.  Since I am 31 see nothing special in both case, I see no reason to go watch the movie anymore then if it was a meat eater...since I am under the same life situation.

Tonight I go see Batman...but you can be sure, I will not even consider a movie with such a pointless title. Your "main hero" could be virgin and 40, but to actually name the movie with that is pretty much warning me that the movie lack content and will be superficial if it needs to underline it that way. I am no movie specialist, but I am quite confiendent that long time movie specialists would agree. So Batman got my vote! image

PS: Batman belong to DC, which is a decent superhero company that I can enjoy...Marvel is a NO WAY, get lost bums answer since their silly lawsuit against the awesome looking Cryptic!

Ok, I am confused! Are you saying that you won't see a movie just because it has a long and pointless title?

Nope, I am saying I wont see a movie because a title is pointless. "Single woman and raising a child", "40 and virgin", "Priest & drug seller", or whatever silly stuff. A Pirate is not something I can meet at the corner store, good title. See, fot the priest example, the idea is not bad in itself, but you would need a different title, I dunno, something that give you the desire to go see it..."A priest to hell!" is already better, but would needs some reworking, better and more hooking sentence...

A title need to seduce me in a way, even a wacky way is fine. "I fart in the morning" type of title dont seduce me in anyway. "40 and virgin" dont seduce me in anyway either. I got nothing against those concepts, they just dont make a good title.  Pirates of the Carribean: The Curse of the Black Pearl...you use Pirates, a nice sunny spot, a curse and some treasure...you overdo it, but that is fine!  Good title, it should have been summarized, but it is by no way a bad title...since I think it is a follow up, it is hard to summarized, since you need the serie title and the episode title...Star Wars does the same, you cant cut in the Star Wars, and all titles are goods.

See, "40 and virgin" is completely lacking any appeal...maybe for non-virgin folks it is appealing, I dunno, but for me, I just shrug and find it a completely pointless and unappealing title...a title need to act like a hook, to send you to the movie.

If a movie director cant find a good title, it look quite unlikely that the movie will be great. Of course some movies where great and the title lack a lot, but they are exceptions that confirm the rule...the title is the first contact(and often the only contact) a movie got with a potential customer...and sorry "40 and virgin" dont make a first good contact, I got nothing against the concept, but you need a hooking title...and such a title fail to do it.

The fact that you are judging a movie on it's title is stupid.

By the way, could I interest you in the movie I made? It's called "The great Apocalypse". Although most of it, is footage on a cam-corder of me filming a squirrel, it's got a good title though.

*shrug* 90% of the movies that come out I dont read any review or preview...if the title dont do it, I check the next 1. Of course if I would go to the theater a lot I would know them more, but I go to the theater 4 or 5 times a year...

So in your example, I could read the preview or the review, but this is just showing that you where able to get me past the first contact.

If a gal give me a slap on my buns the first time I saw her, I wont be interested in knowing her more, even if she might be a great person to know. It is merely a first impression...and for a movie...the first impression is the title.  There are MORE interesting movies out there then what I will watch, so I have to make a judgment, and I am sorry, 90% of the movies wont get more then the title to hook me for a theater experience.

And for tonight, I didnt even read the review...Batman in 3D at Imax...sound great!

In 2 or 3 months, when I will pick another movie to go see (I usually prefer to stick to my computer), I will first judge the title...and if the title dont hook me, the movie is dead and good for my Satellite Dish when it is a Super Choices in a few more months...and completely free, assuming I listen to it for the entire movie...I often ZAP them! image

Back to the topic, I didn't find the movie that funny. It reminded me of 'Something About Mary.'

I don't know what the hell movie critics saw when they watched it, but they were completely wrong in their reviews. It's labeled as a horror movie, although I found Winnie the Pooh's Huffelpuff movie scarier. Even the director, Wes Craven, said it was a psychological movie. Perhaps he was stoned and didn't know what movie he was talking about. But Red Eye is FAR from being psychological. If you do, indeed, want a psychological movie, I HIGHLY recommend Mind Hunters. As for a good comedy flick, well...that's a tough one. That is, unless you find "dumb" funny, then you can watch any movie. For comedy, I prefer comedy central's stand up comedians. As for the movies out right now, dukes of hazzard was pretty good, along with fantastic 4. Sky sky was m3h, and War Of Worlds was freaking awesome, up untill the end :(. All the other movies out right now are pretty much crap. However, brothers grimm and the transporter 2, look promising (transport 1 was pretty crappy but wtvr). OO and also V is coming soon, from the makers of Matrix, so that HAS to be good. Well, thats about all I can think of right now. GG

40 Year Old Virgin NOT funnier than wedding crashers? Dukes of Hazzard and Fantastic 4 were GOOD?

Boy i think you might be legally retarded.

MEANING that the movie was done well for the theme. 2 southern guys trying to get back their ranch, not much you can do with that. But they did, make an anverage movie. Plus, it was close to the original dukes of hazzard. I consider that as being "good". And the idea for the fantastic 4 movie was extremely simple. 4 people, with simple powers. Again, not much you can do with that. All they(movie producers) did was tell the story of how they got their powers, (which wasn't exactly right, but wtvr) and introduce Doctor Doom. They did that, so again, i consider that "good". Just because it didn't have any fancy crap means that they will make a second fantastic 4, just like they did with the spiderman crap. If they won't, then I will have to think of it as the Hulk movie and say it sucked. And for the record, 40 yr old virgin was NOT funnier than wedding crashers. If you think that, then "Boy, i think you might be legally retarded."

So you liked the movies because the plots were extremely simple? And don't use my line, ever again.

Care to elaborate your point? I dont get it. Batman hardly needs presentation, we know what to expect, it is a strong name, a strong franchise.

And I got a blast, not a masterwork, but I enjoy it, which is the goal of the movie...and buy my loyalty a little more for WB & DC. image
